Pac 12 Pick - Em Week Eight
UCLA at Arizona
Lets start it off by saying that both teams are terrible and UCLA has a lot more to play for at this point than the Wildcats. I think Stoops being gone hurts more than it helps in the short term. Neuheisel is suddenly 3-3 and a win here puts him in pretty good shape to qualify for a bowl game.
Vegas - Arizona by 4 1/2 - John B Picks - UCLA 38 Arizona 35
USC at Notre Dame
The Trojans have played well enough to just get by all season. They need to do better than that under the shadow of the Golden Dome to come away with a victory on the raid. I haven't been that impressed by the Irish so far this season. I think the Trojan offense gives USC a slight edge.
Vegas - Notre Dame by 8 1/2 - John B Picks - USC 31 Notre Dame 28
Oregon at Colorado
What is left of the Buffaloes is basically road kill at mid season. The Ducks are troubled with some injuries but they could beat the Buffs handily with their third stringers.
Vegas - Oregon by 31 - John B Picks - Oregon 51 Colorado 17
Utah at California
I like the Bears but they are missing a couple of starting linebackers which will hurt them against a running team like Utah. The Bears aren't playing well and the Utes seem to have more in the tank right now. You have to wonder if Tedford needs a change of scenery. I know he is a great coach but things aren't clicking. Perhaps a season without a real home game is part of the problem.
Vegas - Cal by 3 - John B Picks - Utah 27 California 23
Oregon State at Washington State
The Beavers were terrible last week at home against a mediocre BYU squad. Look for an improved Jeff Tuel this week now that the rust has worn off. This is another must win for Wulff. If the Cougs win the odds for his survival increase exponentially.
Vegas - WSU by 3 - John B Picks - Washington State 38 Oregon State 31
Washington at Stanford
I will be picking this one tomorrow!
Vegas - Stanford by 20

Gekko’s picks:
UCLA by 6: UCLA is about to learn that its not how you start, but how you finish. They are starting to believe that they can compete for the South.
Notre Dame by 3: Good game.
Oregon by 24: Oregon will win big but Colorado will cover given the homefield advantage
Cal by 4: Cal has more offensive weapons and I expect Maynard to get right.
Oregon State by 1: Imagine the conundrum that Wulff will be in if Tuel is rusty for a second straight week. The fans are going to go crazy with the Tuel vs Lobster debate
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Don't forget to pick the UW game, AGAIN!!!!

To be blunt; there is no chance in hell that WSU fans will ever favor Lobster over Tuel.
Tuel’s numbers would have been a lot better if Isiah Barton and Jared Karstetter hadn’t caught a case of the dropsies, or in medical terms Koren Robinsonitis.
"If you want your dreams to come true, don't sleep in."
If Tuel drops another game they sure as hell will
The debatre and comparisons will begin to fill up CougCenter if the Beavs beat them.
All I saw was purple
No they won't.
It Tuel and Tuel only.

Other fans don't seem to grasp
that Tuel is the team leader. He will play as long as he is healthy. He is the superior quarterback.

I think the stink in Boulder will get worse....
Chippy has no class, and will try to make new friends by putting 60 points on them….. unless they just get oxygen deprivation at elevation? John has it..“basically road kill” “Welcome to college football …in the Pac12” I for some reason find it interesting to see how the kids respond to Stoops’ absence?

Roast Duck is a delicacy.
Picks
UCLA by 1 – UCLA has motivation, Arizona doesn’t.
Notre Dame by 3 – Tough call, going with the home team.
Oregon by 1,000,000 – Chip goes classless and breaks the all time points scored in a single game record.
Utah by 1 – Another tough one, the numbers say Cal, my gut says Utah.
WSU by 7 – As much as I want to go with Riley in October, WSU has too much offense.
Stanford by 14 – They are averaging 45 points per game and only giving up 11 points per game. We both have good offenses, but their defense is leaps and bounds ahead of ours. Sorry guys, it’s going to be a tough day.

Surprised to see Vegas
favor AZ and ND. I agree with your upsets.
hardest week to predict so far
Other than Ore Colo, the others could easily go either way. I think Utah might have been able to beat Cal but losing Wynn hurt them bad. WSU and OSU, to me the beavers are truly an enigma. I think USC will also beat ND. UCLA with Brehaut out drops them back to AZ talent level. And lastly, the Dick Baird in me says I have to go with the dawgs. I could easily end up 1-5 this weekend.

Still figuring out the DP
Why does everyone post their picks?
Is it a contest?
Is it for personal fulfillment?
Was there a buy-in at the beginning of the season that I missed out on?
Regardless, here are my picks!:

Oregon by 35
Cal by 3
WSU by 10
Stanford by 17
NU by 4
Ya, it's a contest.
Last year when multiple people would give their own individual picks, I volunteered to keep track and make it into a contest. It’s too late in the season to pick enough games to be the “official” winner, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have “unofficial” bragging rights!
Here is the post from the beginning of this years contest:

Rah..Rah..Neweasel!
It is in UW’s best interest that Neweasel retain the UCLA job, rendering that school a non-challenging, mediocre opponent for the remainder of his tenure.
And not having the schizoid, carpet-chewing Stoops around could save UW a bundle on future repairs to Husky Stadium’s artificial turf.

Agree
ESPN has too much public opinion power. Who they talk about positively effects recruiting positively. Who they dis compound things negatively. Watch them cover an SEC game and all they talk about is the fight in both teams. Watch them cover a Pac 12 game and all they talk about are the mistakes made by both teams. The best and worst thing about sports is the creation of ESPN. We know who their bitches are…
All I saw was purple
It doesn't help when 3 consecutive prime-time ESPN games end up being 20+ pt blowouts
I usually look forward to Thursday nights because it marks the beginning of the weekend to come, but these Pac-12 games have been brutal
Kirk's picks
I’m tempted to wait until CAHusky & 206Dawgs have made their picks and steal from them, but with the Thursday night game I’d better get them done while I can…
Arizona 34, UCLA 28 (Arizona covers)
UCLA has more to play for, but I think Arizona will play looser than they have all season with Stoops gone. For all their faults, the Wildcats are a terrific passing team, while the Bruins pass defense is bad – really bad. And their run defense isn’t much better, though Arizona can’t run the ball to save their life. The Wildcat defense is awful as well, and the Bruins are a strong running team, especially with Prince back at QB. But he’s not a good passer, and the game is at Arizona where the Wildcats are generally pretty tough. Close call, but I think Arizona’s players will respond positively to Stoops being fired while UCLA will be playing too tight.
Notre Dame 30, USC 24 (USC covers)
Kelly appears to have the Irish on track, while USC has the Kiffin factor, aka the ability to play some real stinker games. The teams are rather evenly matched, but I think a combination of homefield plus a better head coach equals a Notre Dame win, though USC is good enough to cover.
Oregon 51, Colorado 17 (Oregon covers)
It would take a massive let-down on the part of the Ducks to lose this one. The only question is how well the offense will operate with Bennett possibly taking over at QB for a banged-up Thomas. He looked pretty damn good vs. ASU, so I’m guessing the Ducks wouldn’t slow down much if he starts. The Buffs are a beaten-down, beat-up team playing out the string at this point. Whether or not Embree is the right guy for the program, he clearly has his work cut out for him. At this point he just has to do his best to minimize the damage.
Utah 24, Cal 17 (Utah covers)
Utah always seems to feature a strong defense under Whittingham, and this year is no exception despite an otherwise tough welcome to the Pac-12. Meanwhile, Cal is struggling as Maynard appears to be regressing, with Tedford not utilizing his strengths as a QB outside the pocket. The Utes are not a defense that the Bears are going to get better against, and a couple key defensive players appear to be out for Cal, allowing Utah the potential to get a good running game going to support their own questionable QB. Tough game to call, but I like Utah to pull off the road win here.
WSU 37, Oregon St 27 (WSU covers)
The Beavers showed some spark in taking down Arizona (and Mike Stoops as a result), but this is a big-time rebuilding year for them, and the Cougs just have too much offense this year for the Beavers to contain. Cougs showed some fight against Stanford and went toe to toe on the road vs. UCLA. At home vs. OSU, I think they’ll get a better performance from Tuel in his 2nd game back and keep their bowl hopes alive while piling dirt on any glimmer of bowl hopes for Riley.
Stanford 40, UW 27 (UW covers)
I think the Huskies will give Stanford all they can handle for 2.5 quarters, but the efficiency of Luck, the relentlessness of the Cardinal pass rush and the strength of the Stanford O-line will take control by the 4th quarter. If this were a home game I’d give the Huskies a better shot, but it’s not. And while I see improvement in the UW defense, I’m having a hard time seeing us shut down the Cardinal passing game and all those tall, fast TE’s. Plus, we just can’t seem to generate much pass rush, and Stanford doesn’t give up sacks. If we blitz, Luck is savvy enough to find the open seams. Wouldn’t shock me if we won, and I think the spread is too high, but the reality is that Stanford is a stronger football program – for now at least. Next year could very well be a different story…
Excellent analysis, except for that last para . . .
yeah, I’m a homer.

Crazi Picks
Ucla 28 Arizona 23- Arizona players already lost their coach. Ucla players don’t want to lose their coach. This game is a real dog.
USC 45 Notre Dame 26: Matt Barkley can put up some sick numbers. This is a big rivalry game and besides the cross town rivalry, this is their bowl game.
Oregon 33 Colorado 0: Regardless who wins the Stanford/Washington game, Chip Kelly wants to send a message to the winner. Ducks pitch the shutout with out D.Thomas and LMJ in action. Ouch!
Utah 21 Cal 27: Utah getting better, but 0-4 in Pac 12 play is dreadful.
Oregon State 20 Washington State 32: Paul Wulff gets a much needed win to keep his job alive.
Washington 34 Stanford 35: Huskies take the lead w/ 2:00 minutes remaining. Luck leads the Furd w/ a come from behind victory, making me sick to my stomach and enducing vomit.
All I saw was purple

South Bend is not in Southern California.
Therefore it is not a cross town rivalry.
No open thread on UCLA/UA game?
IWe’re missing a chance to throw rocks at Slick Rick . . .
Rick's head coaching career currently spiraling down the drain
28 – 7 UA midway through the 2nd
Arizona making UCLA look as hapless as Colorado
35 – 7 near the end of the first half
the UA fans’ delight to every made PAT is great

Notre Dame
I think you seriously under estimate ND, John.
There are some good reasons why, of course. Their first game was AWFUL. But, after making a QB change things have been quite good. That Michigan game is still making it difficult for me to sleep, but ND dominated that game in all categories except the one that mattered (Robinson completed just 11 passes… for 330+ yards).
Since then, the Irish have been dominating just about everyone. #16 Michigan State? Killed ‘em. Air Force? Beat them by 26 and if you watched you know it wasn’t even that close. Purdue? Utter domination. They did struggle with Pitt, but… whatever.
SC has been much, much less impressive. Look at their schedule. They have NOT beaten a good team. Minnesota sucks, and they barely won. Utah has been getting pounded in Pac 12 play. Syracuse? Sucks. Arizona and Cal? At the time you wrote this you actually thought that UCLA would beat AZ. SC’s best win of the year has to be against Cal, and Cal is at the very bottom of the North division.
So don’t get me wrong. I’m NOT saying that ND will win for sure. I’m really worried about ND’s secondary and our tendency to turn the ball over. All I’m saying is that the Irish have been much more impressive than SC thus far. I know you can’t stand the Irish, but they don’t deserve to be dismissed that easily.
I wish
that we could play UCLA this year.
