Puppy Chow
Despite dropping a 23-17 decision this past weekend at the hands of BYU, Washington picked up nine votes in this week's coaches poll. UW didn't pick up any votes in the AP poll. Boise State picked up seven first place votes after its win over Virginia Tech and is ranked third, while Oregon is rated 7th.
The Syracuse Orange--this week's opponents--opened the season with 29-3 home victory over Akron. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Nassib threw a pair of touchdown passes, while senior tailback Delone Carter ran 26 times for 91 yards and a score to give the 'Cuse its first season-opening victory since 2003. Washington is 2-1 against Syracuse and is currently favored by 13.5 points. Syracuse has gone 1-11-1 in games played in the western half of the country since 1964 with the lone victory a 32-14 win at UCLA in 1967. Washington is 23-2 in home games against teams from the East since 1970. The game has a 4:00 PM PST start and will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
It looks like Reggie Bush is going to be the first player in the history of the award to lose the Heisman Trophy.
The college schedule revs up this weekend with a big slate of games led by Miami at Ohio State, Penn State at Alabama, and Florida State at Oklahoma.
In the Pac 10 the big games are Stanford at UCLA, Virginia at USC, California at Colorado, and Oregon at Tennessee.
Washington State was just pounded by Oklahoma State 65-17 last weekend. Up next is mighty Montana State at home. The Bobcats won their opener 59-10 over NCAA II Fort Lewis College. Can the Cougars bounce back and win the most winnable game on their schedule?
Would USC consider going independent?

USC
I think the Trojans realize that they will no longer have the votes to keep in place the current unequal TV revenue distribution model and they’re firing shots over the bow to the rest of the conference warning them to think twice about voting in full revenue sharing with the next TV deal.
Exactly
They are are one of the tenor so programs that could be successful as an independent.

non-revenue sports
The football program could survive and perhaps thrive financially as an independent, but they’d have to figure out what to do with the rest of their programs. Stick them in the WAC I suppose?
Exactly.....there is no way the other pac-10 members would allow the non-revenue sports to stay
We aren’t the weak ass-12
JohnB we are 2-1 against the Orange.
W 73 at home 21-7, L 77 away 20-22, W 42-12 in 2007 away
That last one...
…was Locker’s coming out party. That was a fun one to watch!

Also game time is 4 PM PDT
so 3 pst is technically correct but most of the nation is still on daylight time.
Syracuse On Saturday
Somehow I think you’re going to see a different Husky Squad on Saturday. I could be wrong though, I’ve been wrong once or twice before. This team has something to prove Saturday and unfortunately for the Orangemen, they are the team the DAWGS are going to take it out on.

Well...whatifsports.com says we have a 14% chance of victory at home...
the good news is that they’re terrible at predictions and Vegas opened us as 11 point favorites. All the money seems to be coming in on UW too since we’re now up above 13 points at most books.
