Interesting comment from Locker on ESPN.

Washington quarterback Jake Locker may be the odds-on favorite to be the first player selected in the 2011 NFL draft. But in the course of discussing playing both quarterback and safety at Ferndale (Wash.) High, Locker told me, “If I had it to do over again, I’d play defense. I like the contact. You can use your adrenaline. On offense, you have to control it.”

Ivan Maisel's Three Point Stance

We've all heard the "Locker to safety" stuff for years.  But when you look at how big Jake is as a QB, the fact of the matter is that if he would've come here to play defense, he'd probably be 240 and one helluva middle linebacker right now.

Thanks had not heard that comment – than why is he a QB – seems like he could have asked for the change to D.

Don't blame me, you started it . . .

Jake could play offense or defense in the NFL, unlike Masoli who will be preoccupied in a jail somewhere.

Touche' Lear!

I like your post better than mine. Well maybe Masoli can help distribute towels or something.

Bunch of crap.

He didn’t play both ways in college. There’s no way he starts doing it in the NFL.

by Sundodger on Jul 29, 2010 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Totally Agree Sundodger...

…the other thing that people seem to fail to realize is the arm strength Locker has. He has a serious gun! That’s something the NFL salivates after.

I think the comment was implying that he will throw a lot of interceptions.

Hence him getting a chance to play defense, of his own passes.

Jake will take his lumps as all Rookies do.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

Hopefully Jake goes into a situation where he’s not pressed into service as a rookie.

I fucking go to UW right now, and I have as big a man crush on Jakey as anyone.

But that’s not trolling. The dude has a point. Locker has about three games worth of experience playing SS (FS?) and that is nowhere NEAR enough for any sort of proficiency in the pros.

by THolt on Jul 30, 2010 2:46 AM PDT up reply actions

Relax,

it’s the definiton of trolling. He came here to make an inflamitory comment that he knew would get us all worked up.

Roll with it, a few of us do the same thing on their blog, and it’s mostly good natured.

Q, it could be construed as trolling, but it was actually a little good natured dig (as B Money says). If I was actually trolling I would have followed it up or responded to others that called me out on it to try and flame this thread. I didn’t. I was just joking around, no harm intended.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get punched in the arm for saying it.

of course I should

I’m making a dig on a rivals blog… as Gekko would say, “I should be flogged for doing it”

It’s all in fun though… so flog away.

The money is at QB

Along with the prestige and the endorsement contracts. Not too many safeties get that stuff unless you are Troy Palomalu or Ronnie Lott. Locker knows what he is doing.

Jake on with Mitch this morning

Sounds like he backed off a little bit from that statement, saying while he enjoys hitting, he wouldn’t change anything.
