Hey John! About the Media Poll,

Did you (or Casino) submit a media poll? I noticed that Bob Condotta and mine matched, but we apparently don't have enough others that had the Huskies ahead of Stanford and Arizona, instead of just behind them?

The Pac-10 Media Poll:

1. Oregon (314)
2. USC (311)
3. Oregon State (262)
4. Stanford (233)
5. Arizona (222)
6. Washington (209)
7. California (175)
8. UCLA (134)
9. Arizona State (81)
10. Washington State (39)

Very close between 4-6 though, certainly close enough that it could easily change as things play out.

Even bigger question...

… does anyone really believe that Cal is no better than 7th in the conference? That’s nuts.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

My Picks

1. Oregon…The Ducks shouldn’t miss a beat if they stay healthy and get adequate play at QB.

2. Southern Cal…Talented as usual but will probation and attrition be a mental block?

3. Oregon State…The Beavers have all the parts on offense except for an experienced QB.

4. Washington….Can the Huskies contend for a title with Jake?

5. Stanford…It is all on Andrew Luck’s shoulders this season.

6. Arizona…Nobody lost more to graduation than UW. Can the defense stop anyone?

7.California…Riley needs to have a breakout year at QB.

8. UCLA…The Bruins could be underrated because there is little real difference between 3 and 8.

9. Arizona State…The defense plays dirty and the offense stinks.

10. Washington State…They have to better….right?

I can't rely comment on this poll

Because the top 7 could be in reverse order by the end of the season. The league is up for grabs. I hope the ducks think they are all that by seeing them No.1 in this poll. Because the only poll that really matters is the final one.

Couldn't agree more

This year could go 9 different ways, sorry Cougs.

The Ducks aren't reading this shit.

Simple conjecture with less-than-simple reasoning to back it up. I, for one, hope that Locker can lead us the RB, but I really have no empiricism to back that up.

No one does

That the nutty thing about predictions. On paper Oregon appears to be the strongest program returning at this point. But what happens if the QB play is awful, what happens if the ducks get the injury bug.

I have a problem with predictions because they are based on assumptions and most often not very accurate. Like Kelly mentioned Arizona was picked 8th in league in last seasons preseason poll, way off the mark when it was all said and done.

It's very true.

Oregon has depth in talent at almost every position except for on the D-line, but they do not have depth of experience, which is important. Costa’s injury history is known, and if he goes down, it leaves only Thomas on our depth chart who has taken a snap in a live game for us, and that was two whole years ago.

Oregon’s place at the top means nothing, especially considering how brittle the team is. If we have another 2007-like slough of injuries, the team could possibly fall to third or fourth in the Pac.

My yoke is heavy.

You were doing so good, right up until you said . . .

“the team could possibly fall to third or fourth in the Pac”

If you think fourth is the worst place Oregon could finish this year, you don’t know much about the conference. USC is always talented, OSU is looking strong, Stanford is on the rise, UW is on the rise with a senior QB, and who knows what UCLA and Cal might do. By point being, a few injuries in the wrong places and ANY Pac-10 team could finish 6th or lower (even Oregon).

I agree with you. The Huskies will win the Pac-10. Kiffin will somehow screw up Usc and Oregon's.....

off field problems will come back to haunt them. I have never liked teams without experience at qb. That will doom Oregon State and Osu might have two losses before they even play the Pac-ten schedule with the first game with Tcu at the new Dallas Cowboy Stadium and they have a game vs Boise State.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. I still will always follow the Mountain West Conference. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez and face the winner of Junior Dos Santos vs Roy Nelson where he will defeat JDS and stake his claim as pound for pound champion. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. 5 weeks till the first game of college football. UTAH vs Pitt. September 2nd 2010.

I’d be more skeptical of Oregon and their QB situation if there wasn’t a precedent of QB’s stepping in under Kelly and performing – Dixon, Masoli, Thomas in brief action…also, don’t forget that Costa was a guy everyone was talking up before he got hurt (again) and Masoli, an unkown at that point, stepped in.

Also, Oregon has a lot of talent surrounding the QB. They may stumble 2 or 3 times, but I wouldn’t bet on more than that.

You bring up a good point but look how unlucky Oregon has been with qb's

Dennis Dixons injury was really bizarre b/c if i remember correctly nobody touched him.

I’d love to see Oregon’s offense be less effective this year with Costa and/or Thomas running it.

I’m just not betting on that happening.

by kirkd on Aug 1, 2010 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Costa and Thomas know the offense well.

by John Berkowitz on Aug 1, 2010 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

The injury didnt happen when you thought it did

The game it finally ended for him was a game he was playing without an ACL. It was removed. The actually injury happened on a hit in a game before that.

Alvin Logan's career is over....

too bad, I always wanted to see him find a place. Looked like he had some solid potential on D.

What happened?

Freak accident or a Middleton case?

Potentially Stanford might be too high

Toby was a workhorse for the Furd. Without him gaining 7 yards on every carry they could potentially see a lot more 3rd and longs as compared to 3rd and shorts. If that is the case it could hinder Andrew Luck’s abiltiy to get first downs.

How much will Toby be missed? That’s a question I can’t wait to see get answered once the season starts.

Its nice to talk about them now because of what they've

accomplished under Harbaugh. They are tough, play to the end and remind me of our old Huskies. Now next year if Luck leaves early, and Harbaugh bolts to replace Rich Rod at Blue U, then we can quit talking about them as they will return to their soft previous history.
