Huskies pick up another commitment
Spring practice hasn't even started yet and Washington already has three commitments for the 2011 class. The latest verbal is from Norwalk, California's Elijahh Penny who is listed as a RB/DE. He is listed as 6'2 240 with 4.69 speed in the 40. I am thinking LB, FB, DE or even a big hammer at RB.
Penny joins S Evan Zeger and RB Brendon Bigelow as early members of the 2011 recruiting class.
Here is some Youtube video of Penny. I think he is going to be pretty good.

The Kid's A Load!
He’s got pretty good speed too for a big guy.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but it looks like Belotti is jumping ship before the Ducks get into bigger trouble…http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/ncaa/03/19/oregon-bellotti.ap/index.html?eref=sihp
Bellotti is rumored to be the head coach in waiting at Colorado.

That's an interesting stat if it's true
- in California and #3 in the nation for yards? Is that correct? And he’s a 1 star NR…. really!
Sark in Socal
That’s one big advantage he has, deep roots throughout southern California. I imagine that kids rating will be on the rise.

Stars at this point in the recruiting cycle mean next to nothing – most players haven’t been evaluated yet. FYI, in the Scout.com system 1-star simply means they haven’t been evaluated. A 2-star guy is the lowest rated guy in their system.
Depending on other offers he may still get, how he does his Sr. year and if he goes to any public camps, he may yet get rated pretty highly.
Bottom line being – don’t spend a moment thinking about stars at this point in the recruiting cycle.
BIG BACK
and fast. Last one was Hugh McElhenny 1950. I guarantee this guy will make one yard against ND and carry the whole OL with him.
Just to start the week off right
Johnie Kirton came in as a “big back”. Obviously for multiple reasons, that didn’t work out so well. I’m with Kirkd, I’ll be very surprised if he ends up playing RB. He’s got far better potential in college (and in the NFL) as a FB or DE.

Watching his film, I’m not overly impressed with him as a RB. I don’t see him lowering his shoulder to knock people over. He runs through a few tackles, but that’s more just his mass vs. undersized H.S. kids. His speed and shiftiness are pretty good for a kid of his size, but would be below average for a RB. And frankly, Chris Polk gets a lot more yards after contact than Penny does. I see in his film Penny going down relatively easy after contact with kids going low and gang-tackling him.
I think Penny would be a relatively slow RB who hasn’t shown in his film that he’s got the ability to be a power back. He also hasn’t obviously shown anything on defense, but if he has the mentality and is coachable, I think he could be a decent DE or LB – he would have above average athleticism at those positions IMO.
Exactly
I’d much rather have a DE that has above average athleticism, than a RB with below average athleticism. We currently have a very solid pack of current and incoming RB’s, I think Penny would be hard pressed to see the any playing time at RB.

HIGH SCHOOL
give the poor kid a break. He is only a high school senior. Remember how easy it was in high school minimum homework and effort required.
Then UW and a ton of bricks fall on you and a two hour class means weekends studying and reading. Never forget taking two history classes in same quarter and having to read and report on 20 books in ten weeks and work nights also.
