Wow... Great draw.

Marquette isn’t bad, but they live and die by the 3 ball and we are pretty good at shutting that down. New Mexico is overrated and Clemson/Mizzou have a good chance to knock off WV.

Horrible seeding!

How does the PAC 10 tourney winner (beat Cal 2 times) end up as an 11th seed, incredible bias

by DAWGFATHER91 on Mar 14, 2010 3:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Nobody expected more, given what we knew, this is good news.

The PAC-10 is underrated this year, you can’t expect people to change their minds about the relative skill level of the conferences at this point.

by lailaihei on Mar 14, 2010 3:51 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

just saying

The seeding used to take in to account last 2 weeks and conference tourny, plus the fact they beat Cal 2 times and Cal is seeded higher?

by DAWGFATHER91 on Mar 14, 2010 3:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Not sure about that

They played a tougher schedule but if you lose all but 1 of your toughest games what does that say?

by DAWGFATHER91 on Mar 14, 2010 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't look at the seed

Look at the fact they are playing on the West Coast, still. The fact that they are shows that they were probably wiggled around to make the bracket fit. Putting together a bracket isn’t as easy as you think and the fact that UW is still close to home says something.

by cougfan on Mar 14, 2010 5:02 PM PDT up reply actions

and really we got a good draw...

we have a tough game with MU, but we drew the weakest 3 seed and Clemson and Missou are good games for us as well. WVU scares me a bit.

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Exactly

The draw and location are fine. It’s not the seed that matters. Marquette/UW is as much of a coin flip as you can get, despite the seed difference between the two.

by cougfan on Mar 14, 2010 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Just seems off

Looking at the bracket overall i can’t argue i like the west coast site, just as weird as this bracket is i would have liked to see a better seed than Cal for the overall resume

Loiusivlle / Duke

just to get to the Sweet 16…

if they pull it off, they likely get Purdue/Texas A&M (although I like Siena as an upset).

That’s one of the toughest draws of any team period.

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 5:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Louisville isn't that great, but Duke in round 2 is deadly.

I like Cal, but Duke is a tall order. I think we have a better chance at getting to the sweet 16 than Cal.

by lailaihei on Mar 14, 2010 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Yikes. And on the East Coast no less. Cal fans can't be happy with that.

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

I think the fact that they get to play in San Jose is pretty damn favorable.

… lots of Dawgs in the Bay Area – I lived there for my first seven years out of college.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Should be an interesting matchup.

My brother in law went to Marquette so that will add a little bite to this one from a personal standpoint.

Game Time?

Does anyone know what time the game is being played?

by UWfan10 on Mar 14, 2010 4:28 PM PDT reply actions

ESPN says 4:20 Pacific on Thursday.

by Benne on Mar 14, 2010 7:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Who would you have in instead?

The only travesty I see is Wisconsin being as low as a 4 and BYU as a 7.

by lailaihei on Mar 14, 2010 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions

West Virginia deserved a #1 seed.

Syracuse should not have been ranked lower than Duke, either.

No complaints here

We got a very favorable matchup plus a short travel, same time zone draw. I would rather be a 11 seed and stay close rather than Cal at 8 which has to go very very east. I think the tourney win and season record with Cal were taken into account by draw, if not the seed. Hope I make the cut for tickets to first round this year. GO HUSKIES

Good news

We seem to be peaking at just the right time for this draw…

If i could get to San Jose quickly, I would.

Go! Huskies!

Marquette fan here.

Can’t wait for the game on Thursday. For a basketball-only school, this is the most wonderful time of the year.

Looking forward to learning more about UW as the week goes on. From what I’ve read so far, it sounds like this should be an excellent game!

by Rubie Q on Mar 14, 2010 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

you're right

I can see it going either way. Heck, in that regard it’s like most games in the tourney. I enjoyed reading what your coach had to say about Romar. I’m just excited to be in the tourney and am looking forward to the matchup. Have fun watching it, I know I will.

by hairofthedawg on Mar 15, 2010 1:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Playing with house money.

Peaking at the right time, got a favorable matchup in Marquette and a weak higher seed in New Mexico (who might not make it past Montana, honestly).

Marquette is good on offense at the things UW likes to shut down and is poor on defense at the things UW does well. Real opportunity to make some noise, but I’m just glad they made the tournament.

by Spider Jerusalem on Mar 14, 2010 6:03 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah...

after that start they really dampened expectations. A Sweet 16 apperance would be beyond great right now. Even a “Pedestrian 32” game would make me happy at this point. UM’s a good team and nobody should be to upset with a loss.

I hope we can go off and hang three digits on Marquettte, but I’m not getting my hopes to high again.

You, sir, are correct

Link

Not quite Dick Bennett levels, but 63 possessions per game is slow. Like almost slowest in the nation slow

by cougfan on Mar 14, 2010 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

It's predictions based on the system

MU is one spot ahead of UW in the rankings and is a one point favorite with 49% confidence. Or, a coin flip as I posted below

by cougfan on Mar 14, 2010 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Dawgs BYU is on a mission from GOD!

Fixed!

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 11:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I know...

I’m saying I hope we win big…just not terribly confident.

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 7:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Depends

If the team that played Cal shows up I am VERY confident, if the team that played in the first half of the Beavers game shows up, we are DOOMED!

by DAWGFATHER91 on Mar 14, 2010 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

UM has some good wing players, but they lack a little size and in big east fashion they like to slow the pace down. Not sure if UM has seen to many on the ball defenders such as Overton he will expose a PG that doesnt have a good handle. I think if MBA and the bigs come to play we win this one.
