Donald Butler

You think that the lifting program at Washington is lacking discipline?  Donald Butler got 35 reps at 225 which was the most of any LB.  Not to take anything away from Donald because that is a show of his dedication to the weight room but a good portion is also the mindset that he gained at UW.  Very interesting to see where he was before Ivan compared to now.  Congrats D Butler, and knock'em dead March 10th!!!

According to the guys at Dawgman.com, he says he was lifting roughly the same amount before Sark and Ivan arrived. Not to take anything away from Lewis, because I think he’ll be a big asset for the program, but I think Butler is just a guy that always has worked hard. DTN too.

Butler

I’ve enjoyed reading through his “blog” on the combine experience. It’s great to see him do well, it can only help the UW football program.

As for who gets credit for his weightlifting, it’s quite simple, Donald Butler gets credit for working his backside off. There will always be players like Butler, DTN and others who will be animals in the gym, no matter who the coach is. I think it’s also quite apparent that Ivan Lewis will pay big dividends for a few reasons. One, he has the coaches really pushing the offseason conditioning program. Two, he will put a big emphasis on all areas of the body, not just the bench press. One of our biggest problems during the TW era was lack of leg strength in the trenches.

Agreed...

…and remember it’s not just about lifting a huge amount of weight, agility and quickness are equally important. You have to be able to move well to play football.

No, sounds like he’s planning to do most of his testing and drills at the Pro Day at Husky Stadium – I guess his agent and/or trainer convinced him to hold off on doing that stuff at the combine.
