Enes Kanter Decommits
Scout is reporting that Kanter is now going to look at a few other schools including Florida State, Kentucky and Syracuse, but is still interested in the UW. I don't have a subscription so I don't know the details, but he's no longer listed as a verbal. If anyone knows more please add info.

Certainly disappointing
Hopefully Romar will be able to get him back on board by signing day. However, in all likelyhood he will be suspended for at least the first 20 games.
That was the thought
I was just going to say that he’s likely going to have to sit part to most of the first year. There’s gotta be a few things going on with him here.
To be clear, he hasn’t dropped the UW, he’s opening up his recruiting again to include other schools. Reportedly the UW is still in a good position with him, probably due to the Chillious connection.
Hopefully the NCAA amends their rules on amateurism to be more fair to kids like Kanter.
if the ncaa is going to penalize him
And if he is as good as we’ve heard, he may just not come to the US and avoid losing a year of pt. Those are all big ifs too.
By the way I absolutely hate this rule. We’ve gotten screwed by it before as well. Why penalize a kid who did it the right way when he plays on a pro team that’s his only option. If they’re not getting paid it shouldn’t affect their amateur status

damn
I really want this kid
If I’m going to be a Husky next year I want to see him getting some pt ;)
ncaa would have shut him down
The NCAA shut down another Turkish player at UWV for 20 games just because he played with a player that was on Euro team. Keep in mind this guy did not play profesionaly and he still got a 20 game suspension. T Jones is still out there, but word is he might not academical qualify for UW. A couple of JC big man the husky have been linked to Vander Joaquim and Aziz Nidaye could be nice fits. Joaquim did not qualify for University of Nebreska after high school, but he is 6’10 with the Strech Armstromg build. Nidaye is 7’1 and he has been linked to Duke he is recovering from ACL surgery. ESPN reports a possible wildcard is Terance Ross who decommited from Maryland and is moving back west, he is orginally from Portland and is a top 50 prospect type at the small foward.
Not completely unexpected
Though the silver lining here is that it makes a scholarship definitely open for Terrence Jones, and the rumor is that we’re now his #1 school.
I Like these "rumors"
He seemed like a much better fit for UW than Josh Scott when they played.

Josh Smith
And he’s recovering from a patella tendon injury. Both are very good players, though

I'd still like them both...
maybe we get a defection…Suggs talked about transfering after last year. Although he’s pretty entrenched in the lineup now. We’re guard deep, maybe one of them goes?
I hate to speculate about defections, but you have to wonder if Darnell Gant is going to stick around – he’s fallen back significantly in Romar’s rotation this year, and with a number of talented big men being recruited by Romar you have to wonder if there’s room for Gant. Time for him to step up if he wants to stick around…
Was thinking the same
Sure would be weird for him though, to go from starting as a freshman to transferring.
I think it’s moot though, because I don’t see us getting 2 more players.
I don't either...
well I could see us getting both and then losing both to academics/suspensions. Gant is interesting, I think when he’s on the floor he’s our best (at least most consistant) low post defender. As a soph. he’s got time to come around on offense and add a little bulk to that lanky frame. I think something pretty deep is going on with Darnell, I don’t think Sophomore slump can explain his season.
jones
Jones is the better fit for UW over Smith. Jones can play at least both foward positions and is a good weak side shot blocker on help defense. Curently Josh Smith looks to weigh about 325-330 pound at 6’10 he would have to lose about 30 pounds to be effective next year at UCLA. He is just to big to run up and down the floor at the Huskies pace. My feeling is that either Gant or Turner will transfer and maybe Simmons redshirts. ESPN Insider has UW as one of T. Ross’s teams he is considering. If Ross decides UW man we will have a log jam a small foward. Best case Jones is good to go and UW signs him redshirt simmons and Suggs and Turner can get 20 min a game next year.
Smith is maybe 300 max and is coming off a knee injury
He’ll be fine and is a heck of a player. The weight will come off pretty quickly as well. His weight issue is well documented and he started eating healthier and also had surgery for sleep apnea which was affecting his weight. He may not ideal for the system, but there’s no way Romar would’ve said no to that kid.

jones and minutes
next years minutes if jones signes and gant transfers
centers
MBA 25min
Breshers 15min
P Foward
Jones 20 min
Trent 15
Holliday 5 min
S Foward
Suggs 20 min
Holliday 15 min
Wilcox 5 min
SG
Thomas 25 min
Turner 15 min
PG
Overton 20min
Gaddy 20 min
simmons redshirt
It seems that Turner Suggs and Wilcox will fight for minutes
There's no chance at all he goes 12 deep
10 deep, probably, but he’s not going to run a 12 man rotation. It’s not advisable at all.
by Brian Floyd on Feb 14, 2010 12:33 AM PST up reply actions
correct...
We’ll go 10 deep as an average rotation, at least in conference.
I see Trent getting burried next year. Suggs, Turner and Holiday are still ahead of him and Holiday will be needed to help with the leadership void I see us having. It looks like Simmons and Trent might sit next year, with Wilcox struggling to find that shooter niche.
Anyone else think Venoy starts next year as a Sr.? I still can’t decide if I’m in the start Venoy or the sub in for a spark camp.
I think he stays as the 6th
A lot of people are still down on Gaddy but give him that offseason to prepare and you’ll probably see big things from him next year.
by Brian Floyd on Feb 14, 2010 12:11 PM PST up reply actions
I'm not down on Gaddy
I think he just needs to find the confidence. When he’s in that zone, watching him break down defenders with his dribble penetration, it’s great. His outside shot isn’t there, but that can be fixed. We just need to let him go wild for a couple of games and let him make some big plays.
He shows flashes of what he can do
If he can do it consistently, and I think he can soon, he’s gonna be something else.
Gaddy will win most improved next year.
Romar doesn’t let Gaddy loose, he is holding him back a little. We have Q Pon and IT to score. I also think it is the system, as our players tend to go one on one a lot and we don’t tend to have a lot of assists. Remember he just turned 18, he is still super young, Isiah was 19 last year and for 20 games Gaddy was 17. He is a litterally a boy playing with some men. He shows flashes of brillance. Offfseason in the wieghtroom and working on his jumper he’ll come back next year and win the pac ten most improved.

kanter
Univeristy of Indiana has now offered Kanter a scholorship, lots of news on him lately. The rotation above is 11 man not 12 and Wilcox at 5 minutes per game is kind of like Trent this year. Trent plays a lot of garbage time, but he does lead the team in rebounds per 40 min with about 12 suggesting he can play PF and will get minutes with the leading rebounder Q Pon graduating. Terrance Ross will join Terrance Jones on the Jefferson High School team it appears they both have UW in there top 5, so this should give UW a better chance to look at Ross. ESPN currently has Ross as the 26th best recruit in the nation and Jones at 13 who was just named to McDondalds all american team. ESPN has Josh Smith listed at 6’9 320 so that weight listed above is about right.
