If you’re just copying this from gohuskies.com, you really ought to fix the fact that Jamaal Kearse isn’t from California.

by NeuroDawg on Feb 3, 2010 7:49 AM PST reply actions

Shirley doesn’t announce till noon.

USC wouldn’t have his LOI this early.

by bigdawgdaddy999 on Feb 3, 2010 7:59 AM PST reply actions

Nick Montana

Is he really 6’ 3"? I thought he was 6’ 1" or so.

by Juneautom on Feb 3, 2010 8:05 AM PST reply actions

He's probably around 6' 1"

Keep in mind that Athlete heights are almost always over exaggerated.

by redwolf75 on Feb 3, 2010 9:12 AM PST up reply actions

Has Kona sent in a LOI yet?

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 8:06 AM PST reply actions

NO on Kona

One was LB Chris McCain from North Carolina who chose Cal instead of Oregon. I weep for the *ucks.

Nice

Potoa'es mom had to drive some other kids to school

So that’s why we’re still waiting on him. Nothing to worry about.

They measure them when they come for their visit and then add 2" and 20#.

I don’t really know. I was just joking about how “official” heights and weights aren’t very accurate.

Condotta states in his blog, and Sark mentioned in his press conference that they do measure the kids on their visits.

They also dress them in UW colors and take their pictures.

Ioane to Boise State

It isn’t every day that Boise beats out Notre Dame and Washington for a PSA.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 8:56 AM PST reply actions

Wow

Didn’t see that one coming…

by Snostrebla on Feb 3, 2010 8:58 AM PST up reply actions

Is it really that surprising?

I doubt BSU can match ND (or the UW) for academics, but on the field, it’s the other way around. Boise’s the top-10 program here, after all.

by The Ancient Mariner on Feb 3, 2010 9:32 AM PST up reply actions

Ioane

He wanted to pick a school with a great engineeering program. So Boise doesn’t measure up in that regard…so a bit of a surprise.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:45 AM PST up reply actions

WOW. Huge for Boise State.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 9:32 AM PST up reply actions

Totally related to Parker

The minute Parker committed Ioane was headed elsewhere

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:45 AM PST up reply actions

As long as we got one or the other...

Parker is better thought of but Ioane’s film was outstanding…great pick up for BSU.

Lawrence Lagafuiana undecided again

He started crying on the radio yesterday and his mother had to take the phone away from him. He also didn’t show up for the PIAA event today where all the Oahu kids announce and fax in their LOI’s.

We still think he will end up at Washington because that is where his coaches and parents want him to go but he is obviously having a tough time with the thought of leaving home.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:02 AM PST reply actions

Check that

Lawrence has arrived…he was just late. We will see what he decides…

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:11 AM PST up reply actions

Lawrence Lagafuiana is a Husky

After a little bit of drama over the last few days he has signed an LOI with Washington.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:14 AM PST up reply actions

Where do you see that?

Sark has announced every player, but not Lagafuiana

by thecassino on Feb 3, 2010 9:23 AM PST up reply actions

Potoae

Was worried he would change his mind and go to USC. Would need him at DE reallly bad. A great get for SARK

Ricky Heimuli to Oregon

I don’t think anyone saw this one coming. Most thought it was between UCLA and Utah.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 9:43 AM PST reply actions

Maybe they promised him he could play wide receiver. :)

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 9:46 AM PST up reply actions

by Juneautom on Feb 3, 2010 9:45 AM PST up reply actions

I don’t think it is that big of deal…Potoae is better and Heimuli will go on a two year mission….who knows what type of shape you come back in after that.

Davis?

What’s up with Melvin Davis? Anybody heard anything?

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 10:10 AM PST reply actions

Can you guys get recruits whose name I can pronounce?

Seriously. Micah Hatchie Waialua & Hauoli Jamora Kahuku?? How am I supposed to make fun of them the next 4/5 years if I can’t pronounce their names?

by SeattleDucks on Feb 3, 2010 10:10 AM PST reply actions

Don't worry...

I’m sure you will learn their names soon enough. For example, when Hatchie is a force on our O-line, creating wide swaths for our running backs, and Jamora is sacking your Duck QB’s, I think you will figure it out.

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 10:12 AM PST up reply actions

Really?

You’re going to try to make fun of our kids for their names? You truly are a Duck fan… No class, just like your coaches and players.

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 10:23 AM PST up reply actions

When did I become a duck fan

And when have I made fun of your players?

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 10:24 AM PST up reply actions

Ummmmmmmm

I was more poking fun at myself for just looking at the last names. Micah Hatchie is easy to pronounce. Simmer.

by SeattleDucks on Feb 3, 2010 10:24 AM PST up reply actions

Try...

to see if you can tell the difference between who’s Samoan, Tongan, or Hawaiian.

Waialua and Kahuku are where they’re from Brosef.

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 10:17 AM PST up reply actions

did you forget...

TUKUAFU, MASOLI, TOEAINA, ETC.

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 10:18 AM PST up reply actions

Just educating you. Oh, and Kahuku and Waialua are located on Oahu (Noth Shore).

Thanks for the lesson

Good luck on the rest of your recruiting class. Shaping up to be pretty good. Better than anything Ty put together. See you guys in the fall!

So now all that's left is Shirley?

Now that Heimuli, Taula, Ioane are gone. Is there still a chance with Schwenke, or is he gone too?

by socalblazer on Feb 3, 2010 10:11 AM PST reply actions

Arizona

Arizona. Not sure how hard UW was pursuing him though.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 10:48 AM PST up reply actions

Was it him?

With the offer too Pelleur, didn’t Sark say that a linebacker slot opened up?

by Juneautom on Feb 3, 2010 10:50 AM PST up reply actions

No...

and Fumaono is a DT. The spot that opened up was the kickers.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 10:53 AM PST up reply actions

I am mistaken..

I was thinking of a DT from hawaii.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 10:56 AM PST up reply actions

Lagafuaina

Let’s hope he doesn’t pull the Hawaiian switch on us and go with the rainbow warriors, lol jk!

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 11:01 AM PST up reply actions

There was a DT that was deciding between UW and Arizona.

He was going to Arizona..I thought that is who Funiamono was.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:02 AM PST up reply actions

Taula

From Anaheim, California

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 11:06 AM PST up reply actions

Who's left?

Unless I missed something, I see the following letters still missing:

Lagafuiana
Stevenson
Timu
Fuimaono
Davis

So, basically Hawaii guys and Davis… Thoughts?

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 10:55 AM PST reply actions

congrats on a great class

see you at Autzen, about to make it a solid 7

by duckyou on Feb 3, 2010 10:55 AM PST reply actions

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 11:04 AM PST reply actions

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 11:09 AM PST up reply actions

At least according to reporters

Oregon is mass releasing the list later. They have a very good class going at this point.

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

No disrespect intended...

I don’t pay attention to wulf football, but how’s wsu’s class?

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 11:13 AM PST reply actions

They lost a couple of kids that they were high on.

..and getting everyone else that they thought they would be getting.

It hink the one ‘surprise’ they are waiting on is Dargan..but most think he is going to Oregon (Since he hasn’t sent his fax yet..and Oregon is releasing the list at 1pm)

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:15 AM PST up reply actions

Good for us

We’re obviously not pulling huge names, which we never will. We lost Cleveland but just snagged a non-qual from FSU’s class last year that was a top 5 OLB. It fills needs, but as usual it’s going to come down to developing under the radar kids.

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 11:21 AM PST up reply actions

Taking a page out of Oregon's book?

Looks to me like the Cougs are taking the approach that they’ll take any good player at this point, regardless of character problems… Wulf must really want to save his butt.

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 11:24 AM PST up reply actions

I like Paul Wulff. I hope he can hang onto his job. If the Cougs somehow manage to win a few games against other Pac-10 teams, that could help the Huskies. No more Apple Cup victories for the Cougs, though!

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:30 AM PST up reply actions

From what I know

He was a non-qual because of grades (cool, that’s nothing terrible) and the checkered past is an arrest for a small amount of weed (football players do drugs?). It sounds as though getting away from where he is and who he’s with could do his life some good.

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 11:31 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that doesn’t sound too bad. He wasn’t violating anyone else’s rights.

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:32 AM PST up reply actions

Risky, but...

It worked for June Jones at UH. He had Brennan, Bess, Rivers, and Grice Mullen to name a few. They did well, but you never know with second chance players.

by 5.56DAWG on Feb 3, 2010 11:35 AM PST up reply actions

Schwenke to Notre Dame

ESPN and Rivals are saying he faxed in his letter about an hour ago….so the only real suspense left is Josh Shirley coming up in one half hour.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 11:33 AM PST reply actions

Any chance of another surprise, a la Cooper Pelluer, such as Sani Fuimaono? Or maybe Maxx Forde switching from WSU? He’s the one Coug prospect who has apparently not sent in his LOI.

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:36 AM PST reply actions

Sani sent his Fax to Arizona.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:37 AM PST up reply actions

Apparently, Forde switched from WSU to Idaho.

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:57 AM PST up reply actions

It looks like we might have one of our best classes..

..and yet finish 6th in the pac-10

1)USC
2a)CAL
2b)UCLA
2c)Oregon
5th)Stanford
6th)UW

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:37 AM PST reply actions

Disagree

I think you have to put us as 2d) given Stanford’s recent loss of Zumwalt and the fact that they don’t have the quality of players we are bringing in…

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 11:39 AM PST up reply actions

2d really? honestly maybe UW is 5th.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:40 AM PST up reply actions

Ok

I just don’t think there’s any chance we should be behind Stanford and there is at least an argument that we belong in the conversation with some of those others as well…

by Dawglawman on Feb 3, 2010 11:42 AM PST up reply actions

2d IS 5th....

2a, 2b, 2c, 2d.

I think you were thinking he said 2nd, not 2d, right?

Bird Law in this country isn't governed by reason.

by Tyler Jorgensen on Feb 3, 2010 3:24 PM PST up reply actions

Alot of the pac-10 schools are picking up late big names

Cal pulled a rabbit out the hat and UCLA just snagged Owa

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 11:40 AM PST up reply actions

Yup..and UCLA/USC is in it for Riley..and USC most likely getting Seantrel henderson

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:42 AM PST up reply actions

Class Rankings

I think it depends on how they rate the classes. Some sites take into consideration the balance of the class, how it fills a team’s needs, the overall athleticism and flexibility of players and so forth. Others just add up the star values they have assigned, assuming they are even accurate. So, I will put my confidence in the Husky coaches over the recruiting web sites. We seem to be getting some really athletic, smart kids who are also good students, for the most part, and who seem very eager to be here. I’m very optimistic about this class. Some of these guys, like Gilliland, who have been beat up a little, could be very under-rated.

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:47 AM PST up reply actions

I think it doesn't mean jack in a few weeks when practice starts

It’s nice to look at now, but once players hit the field, throw everything out

by Brian Floyd on Feb 3, 2010 11:48 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, Riley at Oregon State has proven that one can accomplish a lot with classes that are not highly ranked, so….that’s why they play the games. :)

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:49 AM PST up reply actions

Eh, thats because we have a billion commits. Our star average is 5th/6th best.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:39 AM PST up reply actions

almost dead heat with Stanford

but we have a few upside guys. If you drop Pueller and Atoe (our last two offers and both two star upside guys) we leap Furd and Cal and are about even with the Ducks at #2 for star avg.

We also have alot of sleepers, I think our class is honestly 1st if you go based on filling needs and balance of class.

by B Money on Feb 3, 2010 12:16 PM PST up reply actions

star average is not a good way to evaluate the class

… because the size of the class required this year would force us to have to fill in gaps with “lower star” guys. to do an apples to apples with an Oregon (say they are bringing in 20), you’d have to take our top 20 and compare it to their top 20 to get a better feel for the quality of our class relative to another. That, of course, has serious flaws, but it is still better than “average star rating”.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

by Gekko Mojo on Feb 3, 2010 3:00 PM PST up reply actions

UCLA just picked up OWA.

I think this solidifies them at 2

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:39 AM PST reply actions

Who cares...

we got quality players at every position. We filled our needs and then some. It’s a win for UW.

by Snostrebla on Feb 3, 2010 11:43 AM PST up reply actions

Davis is out...

Bob Condotta is reporting that Davis won’t sign because of grades. That’s too bad because I think he could have offered a great “big back” alternative to some of our current guys…

UW got LB recruits as well.

..not sure what your point is. There are 3-4 LB spots.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:50 AM PST up reply actions

For some reason that never seems to hurt USC. I Remember when we thought we would get allen bradford as a LB..because we were confident that since USC got 2 other 5 star LB’s, that we were in.

by yearsago on Feb 3, 2010 11:54 AM PST up reply actions

Betting Shirley is pushed to UW

It seems like the stars are aligning in that direction.

by John Berkowitz on Feb 3, 2010 11:51 AM PST reply actions

That would be great. We could finish off signing day with a bang — the same way we ended the season!

by Scott Frost on Feb 3, 2010 11:52 AM PST up reply actions

Yep

the guys on KJR said the same thing…

by Snostrebla on Feb 3, 2010 11:53 AM PST up reply actions
