HB 2912 Passes - No funds allocated to Husky Stadium
HB 2912 passed the house today which is good news but the bad news is an exception was written into the bill which would not allow the money generated to be used for Husky Stadium, Key Arena, or Safeco Field. It is kind of ridiculous because funding sports stadiums was the reason for the tax in the first place.
Rep. Ross Hunter, D-Medina, who chairs the Finance Committee, said he'd prefer to leave those decisions up to King County. But he said the bill couldn't get enough votes to advance with the stadiums still in it.
"This is not a done deal," said Hunter, who predicted some version of HB 2912 would be one of the last bills still in play at the end of the 60-day legislative session. "I just don't know what's going to happen in the end."
At face value this seems like a devastating defeat for the UW Athletic Department and Husky fans. The thing to remember is that politics are an interesting game and as this one moves on to the Senate this bill can be ammended to include about anything.

Kill it now.
By the time the pols get through with it, it will little resemble the original purpose. Seattle already has a very bad reputation as a place to visit/ host conventions because of the hotel/ motel/restaurant/rental car taxes. IE, The car I am renting this week (BTW last one as I will be leaving a car up in Wa for future events) Avis gets $75. Total bill is $143plus, the difference this BS tax. KILL IT now before it becomes a monster. The US income tax started as a 1% temporary tax.,
Sounds like the WA state sales tax.
They just keep bumping it up. I’m tired of politics, and I’m tired of paying for people who don’t work. Good thing I’m not running for office, my slogan would be: Get a job or go hungry.
"Legends are made on the shores of Lake Washington"
"BOW DOWN TO WASHINGTON"
go for it Lear
With that slogan you’d have my vote and I suspect many others.

SPEED TRAPS
and the WASP (State Patrol) running speed traps on the highways. Used to be the purview of Southern Sheriffs or the town of ROY. These guys WASP get huge benefit packages and generous retirement benefits to run the sped traps on people going to work. You have my vote. Never see one if you witness a serious violation.
Politics
That’s a whole different discussion, one that hopefully won’t be debated on this site.
There’s still a slim chance that Husky Stadium can be brought back into the equation but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Did you guys read where the new Husky Baseball coach want’s Husky Baseball to get a new stadium ASAP? Should be interesting to see where all of this goes. GO DAWGS!!

The Baseball Stadium needs to get done
It is just a joke.

Politics, redux.
So does this also kill the chances of Martin Stadium getting a renovation unless WSU raises tuition again?
Even worse...

“However the measure explicitly bans any of the money being spent on a university sports stadium. And it allows two stadium sales-tax credits to expire, giving the money back to the state general fund, AP reports.”
We get singled out, and the bill says that we, specifically can’t get any of this money.
Last time I looked College Football was an amauter sport

Sports in the State of Washington suffer
Is there a distinct correlation between every major sports intity in the state of Washington and losing?
Seattle Seahawks are losers
Seattle Mariners are losers
Washington Huskies are losers
Washington State Cougars are losers
and the Seattle SuperSonics moved out of state.
Why has the state of Washington become a state of constant losers? Might have something to do with the interest level. If we can’t get our own legislation behind our sports franchises, then the trend of losing will continue. I’m not talking about a bail out, the last time I checked Husky Stadium was university-owned by the state of Washington. Seems to me that the state should invest into a marque venue to host a major colligate program that could generate major revenue for the university, community, and county.
