Head coach Steve Sarkisian and safety Nate Williams on ASU loss
University of Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian and senior safety Nate Williams held court on Monday following the 10-point loss to Arizona State.
Quarterback Jake Locker failed to make his customary appearance at the weekly Monday press conference. Sarkisian revealed that his senior signal caller was at the doctor's office. He was suffering from either a cold or the flu, which is affecting several other Husky players. Locke was expected to be at practice later that afternoon.
Sarkisian also mentioned that he'd changed his game plan based on Locker's physical condition during the Arizona State game. The senior from Ferndale appeared to be winded towards the end of the game and needed oxygen on the sidelines.
With Locker not having his usual jump when running the ball, the second -year coach adjusted his strategy to reduce the number of times his quarterback would keep the ball on the ground. Without Locker as an option, the Huskies became more predictable. Washington failed to net points once the ball was on ASU's side of the field.
Williams also mentioned the low energy level. He felt some of this could be attributed to the emotional win over the USC Trojans the week before.
Watch the video below to hear more perspectives from Sarkisian and Williams.
