Trouble Brewing in Eugene, theft charges pending for.....

Masoli and another football player as reports on twitter have them stealing 2 lao tops a guitar and other items. as well. Suppossedly the thefts were in retaliation for Masoli's friend  being kicked out of a party at the frat house where this alledged theft took place. I wonder if theft gets yiu more or less of a suspension than assaulting an opposing

player , and others in National TV. My real guess is there will be a suspension when the schedule is favorable. No matter how this plays out  it is yet another crack in the armour in Eugene.

"suspension when the schedule is favorable"

I agree, I see him getting suspended for the first day of spring practice, maybe the first two days if they are really pissed at him for continuing the Oregon reputation as a school of thugs.

This was a blog trying to jump the gun on a scoop based on what somebody put on Twitter.

nobody in the actual media is reporting this. Not saying its not possible, but it looks like a giant game of telephone as everyone’s sources are twitter and “a friend of a friend.” I worry about it if the R-G or the Oregonian picks up on it. All the mainstream media is reporting so far is that Masoli is NOT a suspect.

Suspect no...

person of interest yes. We’ll see how it shakes out, but he’s had issues in the past, so naturally he’s going to get looked at.

A police spokesperson has said that Masoli and Embry “have not been arrested, are not suspects and are not people of interest.”

Posted what I had heard to be true...updated after my post
[UPDATE, 9:14 p.m. ET] Despite a good deal of specificity in this afternoon’s reports that Oregon players Jeremiah Masoli and Garrett Embry were suspects in a fraternity theft — including direct, incriminating quotes from the student who called police — Eugene television station KMTR reported tonight that Masoli and Embry are NOT suspects in the incident described below, according to police. Their names do appear in the police report, however, adding to a web we can only hope will be untangled over the next few days. As they say at KMTR, stay tuned.

link here

Still seems fishy, as of right now I’ll reserve judgement.

KVAL misquoted the police spokesman. The Oregonian clarified in this link.

Masoli / Embry have NOT been cleared by any means.

Eugene police told NewsSource 16 Sunday night that Duck quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry were mentioned in a police report on the theft, but they “are not considered suspects at this time”.
Police did not offer further details Sunday night. EPD spokesperson Melinda Kletzok would not comment on the case Monday.

More to this story than meets the eye. The police did not say Masoli and Embry were not a people of interest.
jtlight quote is wrong. Read my links…some very interesting news.

UPDATE: Radio Station gave out false information... Masoli is a suspect.

Eugene Police Department

“The media inquired yesterday about a theft case at a frat house. Since it is an open case, under investigation, we have not released any details from the case except to acknowledge EPD took a theft report at 12:48 a.m., January 24, 2010 at 812 E. 14th Avenue. We have no reason to release names of victims or persons of interest or suspects at this time."

Any information saying otherwise is false.

Its very interesting

KMTR and KVAL are maintaining that Masoli is not a suspect, and the Register Guard is going along with that as well. The Oregonian is claiming otherwise. It seems to be a case of Eugene media vs. the Oregonian.

Looking through the frat kids story, its pretty fishy. That’s not to say nothing happened, but I’d be pretty surprised if anything sticks.

See, this is where Oregon has a HUGE leg up on Washington.

The Seattle media are always looking for any small stupid reason to crucify the UW football program. Any player caught j-walking will be on the front page.

The Eugene media, on the other hand, are very quick to overlook crimes, downplay punches, and do anything possible to help the Univ. of Oregon look good.

If we could get the media in Seattle to behave like the media in Eugene, we would have won at least 2 more Rose Bowls and another National Championship in the 90’s!!!

Addicted to Quack needs to listen to the Police not the Radio Station

While neither Oregon football player has been charged, the police spokeswoman also denies reports that she had said they were cleared in the matter.

HE wasn't implicated or named in a report...

Cannoli was…it does mean alot if the allegations have any legs. It means that if he took goods valued at $750 or more (or if he recieved goods worth $250 or more) that he commited a felony. That means he goes directly to big boy jail for a while. To me…that means alot.

sorry that was unclear...

T$ was implying that you’re just as much as suspect as Masoli. I was clarifying that you were not named in the report, Masoli was…therefore making it a bigger deal that Duck fans would like to admit.

Either way, I don't see much on Masoli

If anyone goes down for this it’s Embry. If the story the kid told was true, they have Embry dead to rights. Masoli on the other hand, wasn’t seen with anything and the kid only said he thinks the other stuff was stolen by those two.

by cougfan on Jan 27, 2010 3:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

If they can place the stuff in Masoli's hands

it’s a felony if it’s over $250…receiving stolen goods it’s a felony over $250…if he took them himself it’s a felony over $750…at least according to some leagal websites I referenced.

If the evidence about the bar is true, it could place him with Embrey…I’m really not hoping Masoli goes down, and I’d like to think that he learned from his prior transgressions…but it’s all a bit fishy.

by B Money on Jan 27, 2010 5:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That's going to be the problem, though

They can place him with Embry, and may be able to place Embry with the projector, but they can’t seem to place Masoli with any of the stuff from all I’ve heard so far.

It’s all a moot point if the bar video shows them in the bar during the crime time frame, though

by cougfan on Jan 27, 2010 5:54 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It’s all a moot point if the bar video shows them in the bar during the crime time frame, though

I’m not sure that’s true – isn’t the bar across the street from the fraternity in question? Unless the video shows him there for a long period of time (and the timing stamp isn’t faked), I don’t think it proves much.

by kirkd on Jan 27, 2010 6:29 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That's what I mean

If he closed out the bar, or was still at the bar at 1245 when the police call was made, it kills the argument. Also, considering there was a foot chase and prolonged situation before the police call was made, the time of the crime could be anywhere from around midnight to 12:30. It all depends what they come up with in their timeline I guess

by cougfan on Jan 27, 2010 6:38 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Right. All I’m saying in is that the bar owner claiming to have video showing Masoli in the bar at the supposed time of the crime doesn’t mean much; the bar is very close to the crime scene, and who knows how long the video shows Masoli present at the bar, and if the video time stamp has been faked.

Sounds Like Embry Has Been Kicked Off The Team

You're not reading the article
From @MightyOregon (over the course of two separate tweets):

That’s his source. He added fluff and called it an article.

RE: Embry

What’s also unclear is Embry’s status with the Oregon football team. A UO official would only say that his “status remains unchanged from what it was on Jan. 1.”

And what status was that?

“I can’t say,’’ he said.

Neither would coach Chip Kelly, who is known to list everybody as "day to day’’ but said he would disclose when the status of a player is changed. Embry is enrolled in school, though.

Link
The rumors about him leaving the program have been around for a while and it’s not because of a theft allegation, it’s because he sucks.

What's so ironic is it's always gonna catch up to ya! and do you remember when...

The big,bad boy Blount was “done for the season”? (for losing it all in Boise) and then ever so quietly was nursed back to life “just in time” for a run for the roses? Hmmm? I thought at the time the whole incident was handled wrongly A-Z! The BEST part for me was when the Rose Bowl was in the balance….knocking at the door… who couldn’t take a fundamentally sound handoff…fumbling away the go ahead TD…and his teams rose bowl chances….(for another decade!) ??? The guy who wasn’t supposed to be playing! I’m tearing down all of my “Chip For Class President 2012” posters!

by glider on Jan 31, 2010 2:53 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He was never suspended for the season

He was suspended indefinitely, which happens all the time in every program. He didn’t play at all against teams before that when the rose bowl, and an outside shot at the national championship was in the balance. He wasn’t reinstated for Stanford, USC, or the overtime game against Arizona, all of which were big games. They ran with 3 capable backs all season and it was just fine. Only after Blount satisfied a number of off field requirements was he allowed to play. It was not in an effort to get wins, their backs were just as capable of doing that.

If it was so bad, why wasn’t the decision universally criticized, but instead was praised as the correct way to handle it. This wasn’t about football, this was about atoning for a huge mistake and showing himself a better man.

Here’s the thing – even if Masoli was involved, I doubt anything comes of it.

I was shocked by the story when it came out. Not that Masoli was accused of theft – his past means that such allegations carry some weight – but that someone in an Oregon fraternity would accuse the star QB of the team of a crime.

From my experience in the fraternity system at the UW, I have to believe that there was enormous pressure put on the accuser both within his own house and from the Oregon IFC to recant his accusation. I can’t imagine that the fraternities at Oregon aren’t huge Duck fans. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the the Oregon athletic department didn’t reach out to the accused and the fraternity and pledged to return or replace the missing items to make the story go away.

Let me be clear – I think it’s quite possible that Masoli wasn’t involved. I also think it’s quite possible he was but it’s been hushed up as people within the Oregon community have closed ranks to protect the team. It’d be one thing if the accuser was a random Eugene resident, but the fact it happened at a fraternity suggests to me huge potential for a legitimate accusation to be bought off and/or pressured to go away.

And also to be clear, I would expect similar things have/do occur at all major sports schools, including the UW.
