Derek Johnson's newest book on Husky Football
The story of Curtis Williams, Marques Tuiasosopo and the 2000 Washington Huskies is told in the gripping new book, The Dawgs of War: A Remembrance.
When Marques Tuiasosopo entered his senior season at the University of Washington, his dream was to quarterback the Huskies to the Rose Bowl. Surrounding him was a cast of colorful characters possessing marginal talent. When Washington beat powerhouse Miami and pulled out a series of fourth quarter comebacks, it seemed every deficit could be overcome. But in late October, when an on-field collision paralyzed safety Curtis Williams, football fell to irrelevancy as the team reeled into despair...
This is a really good book and once you pick it up you will not be able to put it down. Derek is a friend of the blog who posts here every once in a while and is a regular contributor over at Dawgman.

Great Quote
“That’s when I started noticing how the older guys on the team were acting, and how there was a traditional way of playing that went all the way back to the Don James and Jim Owens eras…Especially going back to the 1991 National Championship team, we were known as the Evil Empire of the Northwest. We took so much pride in that; we wanted to bring that back. Curtis was the first person to put that notion to my mind that this is how we do things at Washington” – ’Willie Hurst
“The Hurricanes came up to Seattle thinking they were these thugs from Miami. But we had the real thugs on our team; from Sacramento, Compton, Los Angeles, and Samoan Hawaii. We had the bad boys on our defense. Jeremiah Pharms was a bad man, a bad dude. I loved having him as a teammate. But on the field, he was a scary, scary human being. With hi, it beyond football” – Matt Rogers
I dont want to give a lot away, but trust me when I say its worth every cent! I got goose bumps just thinking about it!
Special Thanks to Derek Johnson for writing this book. Awesome Job!
Now lets go DAWGS! We will run rampant in the farm tonight!
It's a natural
for my Christmas list.
That was a great year and the second Rose Bowl the wife and I have attended. I’m looking forward to a third with Sark.
I’ll bet it’s a lot better read than the hit piece about those same players a dying newspaper in Seattle ran trying to justify why a really bad coach should be retained.

One thing surprised me in Seattle
I couldn’t believe how thin the Seattle Times has gotten. It seems to be about the same size as the old Ballard Shopping News these days.
All of them
are getting thin. The Tacoma News Tribune and the Olympian are much thinner than they used to be. They both are pushing webscriptions, for the lack of a better word, although if you subscribe to the print version you can read the online version as well.
The one local newspaper that is not thinned down as much is the Centralia Chronicle and they have a good web presence as well.

I wore my winter Husky coat this morning. I was surprised to find the #25 remembrance sticker still attached. Will buy this book.
Yeah what an emotion filled...
…season that was! I’ll never forget that final drive Tui orchestrated in the last 50 some seconds! Unreal! I had to listen to it on the radio because it wasn’t broadcast on the east side of the mountains. I’ll never forget sitting there listening with my headphones on at the dinner table and going nuts when we scored! My in laws were rolling there eyes at me.
