It is called "The Drive"

The "DRIVE" was absolutely amazing.

The "DRIVE"  was one of the Greatest Football moments ever played in Husky Stadium.

The "DRIVE" engineered by Jake Locker on Saturday afternoon is in which hero's and football legends are made of.

The "DRIVE" was four minutes to glory that puts Jake Locker in the company of all the great Washington quarterbacks, Bob Scholedt, Sonny Sixkiller, Warren Moon, Mark Brunell, Billy Joe Hobert to Marcus Tuiasosopo.

The "DRIVE" tells me that Jake Locker is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, not could be.

The "DRIVE" that made the Husky Football program relevant again to it's fan base.

                                                                 REMEMBER "THE DRIVE"

Jake Locker has led the University of Washington Football team out of the darkness into the light. It is a new day and a new beginning for the University of Washington Football Team. The shackles have come off.  Get used to it Husky Fan's, this is merely the beginning. Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and Jake Locker have sent a statement to the rest of the PAC 10. THE HUSKIES ARE BACK...BEWARE!!!

Where does this game rank?...

…in Husky Stadium lore? Especially considering where we were at and who we were playing? I can’t think of a greater win at Husky Stadium with that perspective in mind.

Given the context, it’s certainly in the discussion of biggest home wins in Husky history.

But, let’s see how the rest of the season plays out…

by kirkd on Sep 21, 2009 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah I was thinking about that...

…and considering where we were/are in relation to where U$C was/is it’s gotta be one of the greatest! GO DAWGS!!

All depends on the rest of the season

If we make a big run, this will be remember as one of the biggest, if not the biggest win ever in Husky Stadium.

If we don’t make a bowl game, it was a great upsest, but nothing more.

Yep, exactly. If we get to a bowl this season and return to being Pac-10 championship contenders next year, this will be seen as the key turning point. If not, it was a great upset, but nothing more.

I don't think that matters...

…it’s got to be one of the greatest upsets/games ever at Husky Stadium.

Could Locker Leave Early For The NFL?

I think there’s a real possibility that he could leave if he keeps it up and I see no reason not to think he’s just going to get better and better as the year goes on.

Locker > Bradford
Locker > McCoy

He could realistically be the #1 pick maybe to the Seahawks??? Just sayin…..

new stadium

Maybe we name the new stadium “JAKE LOCKER STADIUM” he will stay for his last season on the top of the mountain. The money is huge but as you get older money is less useful than younger, fonder memories and lifetime friends.
Where, website, can I get a list of current Husky football roster BY THE NUMBERS?

by Purpledawg on Sep 22, 2009 10:02 AM PDT up reply actions

Locker will be back next season

As of right now Jake Locker has only accomplished two great things. Redshirt freshman year- ran for 1000 yards. This last weekend- beat USC. I’m quite confident Jake has a lot left still to get done before he leaves.

1) Win some Apple Cups
2) Win the Pac 10 title
3) Win a Rose Bowl
4) make a strong push for a Heiseman Trophy

Everything on that list is why he chose to come to UDub. Locker will be the top QB prospect next Spring. By then he’ll have it all. I seriously doubt Tebow, Bradford, or McCoy will become featured QBs in the pros. The only one from the 3 that has a chance is McCoy. Locker will have all the tools to be the next big thing. But he’ll stay around to make a run for Apple Cups, Pac 10 titles, Rose Bowls, and a serious chance at a Heiseman.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Sep 22, 2009 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions

We agree again

But I bet he stays for a different reason. He obviously has all of the tools necessary to play in the NFL, but if he wants to have a successful career he needs another year of Sark’s tutoring. Even the best QB’s only have a slim shot at NFL success, the best way to guarantee a solid NFL career is more time with Sark.

This drive will rank up there but when you say the drive

I think of Tui leading us at back in 99 in the game Curtis was injured, 80 yards in 3 plays with a minute or so left on the clock. Or Damon Huard leading the dawgs at Cal in 93 to pull out the 1 point victory. Not demeaning this drive, but the other two were also great. Needs a better moniker than simply the drive. The burning of Troy or something like that.

junior vs the man from mutual

Joe Albi Stadium, Spokane, I forget the year. If you weren’t there you missed it.
Husky ball on the Cougs 10 yard line. Timeout. Big announcement on the stadium loud speaker “the RED RAIDERS now entering the game”. Supposedly the stop unit. Huge cheer erupts.
Junior Coffee, Rick Redman blocking, went 10 yards up the middle untouched. TOUCHDOWN.
You missed it as the “man from Mutual” ad was running on TV during the live run.
These are the memories you have as you get older. The overnight train rides to Spokane. A special car where the students danced the night away, literally.
Glad you’re back, GO HUSKIES.

Purpledawg, Good memories

I recalled a few of them in a deja vu moment earlier this decade when the company I worked for at the time put us up in the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane, instantaneous rush memories of 4 of us freshmen band guys together in a room and the same mezzanine and bar area, which led to recalling those games at joe albi. Thanks again for the reminders

THE DRIVE- ONE OF THE BEST GAME WINNING DRIVES IN HUSKY HISTORY

I think this one is actually better or sweeter due to the fact that 60,000 of us got to witness this feat first hand. And the rushing of the field is something I have never witnessed in person, WOW what a scene as the green turf gave way to a sea of purple and gold.

2003 Apple Cup

The similarity is that (if I’m not mistaken) the cougs were number 3 in the nation too. I was sitting in the east end by Lake Washington (duh!) anyway I told these 20 something kids around me that if the DAWGS (led by Cody Pickett) pulled it off, I was “rushing the field”. I knew I was going to try but also wasn’t willing to take a beat down to attempt it. Anyway, Cody hits Williams in the corner of the West endzone and Husky Stadium is bedlam! The cougs had like 45 seconds but we’d been sacking them and picking them all game. I think it was Coop that picked it and took it to the house! SWeet!! memories! The place is going nuts! The clock winds down, I go down to the field see a couple guys jump the fence. I immediately notice security has been told “let em go boys!” I make a quick leap and off I run to “dance on the W” I was 45 years old at the time. I was jumping up and down with all the students when it dawned on me, “what in the hell are you doing out here!” Needless to say I got my ass out of there but it’s just one of those SWEET memories that you can look back on! GO DAWGS!!

The way those kids looked at me when I told them I was going to “rush the field”! I don’t know if they followed me, I never looked back!

confidence after playing usc

november 12 1977, husky stadium with real “husky weather,” 40 degrees raining and windy, like 30 knots coming off the lake.
sc was stacked with the likes of ronnie lott, mosi tatupu, clay mathews and brad budde.
we had a new coach coming off a 5-6 record in his first year, a no name black quarterback and a local kid as the tailback.
we played sc hard and pulled away in the second half.
back then no one wore raingear to husky stadium.
when we won everyone pulled off their garbage bag ponchos threw them up in the air and they circled up to the upper deck and around the track a few times.
that unique feeling that was husky stadium then and although in a completely different context, is what i felt last saturday.
there is no drive i can remember as memorable as last saturday’s but the effect of an emotional win at home over usc on a team not used to winning is immense.
’cos we all remember how that ’77 played out, right?

Lock

I spent some time at BC when Matt Ryan was there and so far I am much more impressed with Locker. I expect his draft stock will improve, but as of right now, I don’t think any teams are going to take him high enough for it to be worth it for him to leave early. Unless he’s guaranteed a top 15 spot, the threat of injury shouldn’t be enough for him to leave.
Anyone know any bars around UW that are broadcasting the Stanford game live?
