RB Deontae Cooper a Dawg per ESPN

Four-star running back Deontae Cooper (Perris, Calif./Citrus Hill) has committed to sign with the Pac 10 Huskies, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports. Prior to making this decision, Cooper stated he wanted to visit Nebraska, Arizona State and Fresno State.

"I know I said I wanted to wait but the more I thought about it, it just seemed like Washington was the best fit for me," he said. "I talked things over with my dad and my coaches and we looked at all my options and I don't think I could find a better situation than Washington."

Other programs such as Colorado, Stanford, Utah and Arizona offered the nation's No. 19-rated rusher, who rushed for 2,948 yards and 43 touchdowns as a junior.

(If Greg Biggins says this one is confirmed and he has quotes from the kid you can put it up on the board! You can't have too many four star running backs in your program. Nice job Sark!)

Way to report it first Juneautom!

GREAT pick up! Now we need Troy Hill to jump on board and VJ Fehoko and we will be on our way!

Didn't do anything

Just happen to see it on realdawg.

I believe Cooper's gonna be a good one

He likes to run with physicality and he’s got a smooth stride and sneaky acceleration. He makes it look easy. His vision is great as well. I think he’s perfect for Sarks offense and he’s not gonna dance around and juke too much.

by murchy on Sep 16, 2009 12:49 PM PDT reply actions

We called this one Murchy

And man am I glad we got Cooper!!!

He’s the whole package imo

the DAWGS are barkin!!!

by ChazzReinhold on Sep 16, 2009 12:55 PM PDT reply actions

Chazz what do you think about Fehoko?

Having VJ come in is huge IMO. Sark’s clearly putting the pedal to the metal here. Can you imagine in a couple of years having

Chris Young OLB, Burnett/Fehoko ILB, Fuimaono OLB.

Wow man. You got whackers all the way around.

Vainuku

Dont sleep on him either…He is a house at 250 lbs. I think we will be fine with recruiting. What I want is that one big time, out from left field, commit. Riley or Shaw would fit that.

Still think we land Wright and Hill as well as Hatchie and possibly Rowland. Man wouldnt that be a sweet class……………………..its sad that a 17 year old kid could negativly affect my work production in such a grand scale.

by bigdave967 on Sep 16, 2009 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Vainuku's a good pickup because he can play FB as well

I think he likes running the ball. I think Burnett could play inside or outside as well. It’s gonna be interesting to see how many we sign this year.

by murchy on Sep 16, 2009 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Already got a pretty solid FB in Fogerson

I will say that I love that Sark is picking guys up that are multi dimestional in the positions they play. That is very important for depth.

Fogerson could move to LB and Young could move to Safety if we get Vainuku and he wants to play FB….who knows at this point. Just get great athletes and teach them how to play UW football!

by bigdave967 on Sep 16, 2009 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah reading that Fehoko is visiting caught me off guard, I thought we were told Sark pulled his scholly… I love that he said Sark is recruiting him aggressively. Might just end up a Texas Tech/UW battle for him and I hope we win

I honestly think we get Vainuku, and soon. He has consistently said UW is his favorite and I don’t think the Beavs can pull him away from us.

I think our LB class is gonna be awesome this year

As for DB’s are concerned, I’m still prayin for Wright, Hill and Parker!!! All three of them are studs in the secondary that we need bigtime

by ChazzReinhold on Sep 16, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Nice get. I hope they can get James too, but if not, Cooper and Davis are a good RB class by themselves.

by kirkd on Sep 16, 2009 1:29 PM PDT reply actions

Great about Cooper....

I was hoping for him from the get go. And Bigdave967, I’m thinking Riley is going to be the big time out from left field guy.

Go Dawgs!!!

Expect to Win!!!

Larry Dixon

Had 254 yards on 12 carries (29+each!) & 6 TDs. I think Sark might be looking his way!

Go Dawgs!!!

I don't think so

Great numbers but I think he is headed to the WAC or Big Sky.

You know, I might just bark a bit myself, dawgfan22.

Need some players in the secondary still, and another lineman, but I’m about as pleased as can be with the recruiting to date.

If you live within 100 miles of Seattle, buy tickets and BE AT HUSKY STADIUM on Saturday. We need the Old Grey Mare full and rocking when the Trojans are on offense. 59,000 tickets sold, quite frankly, sucks. If you haven’t been to one yet, the games are actually fun again. Yes, I still leave with no voice, but it’s because there’s actually something to cheer about instead of just yelling at Willingham and the ineptitude of the coaching staff.

Something big might happen on Saturday. You’re going to want to be there….

LSU...

…was a pretty good performance by the fans. I actually felt the “stomp” going again. I left with out a voice too. I think the difference is U$C fans think this is a scrimmage for they’re mighty trojans and they’re not going to travel. All the more reason to bring back the “missing” Husky Fans and “fill er up baby!”

We have 18 verbals and at least 7 more to go.

I have heard rumors that they would take up to thirty if they can find a way to get them all in here. the only way that happens is with greyshirts or early enrollment. You need more attrition also. Right now to take 25 they need 4 to leave by next fall.

I have heard they would take up to 30 if they can find a way to get them all in. Not sure if any of the kids are early enrollment types.

I think we wind it up with taking:

2 OL
2 DL
1 LB
2 DB

Now how exactly do you turn down Jordan James if he wants to go to Washington? If that happens they will make room.

Batts leaving

I think that freed up another spot.

Recruiting….Sark gets it, I think his and his staffs enthusiasm plays well with recruits

by T9ODawg on Sep 16, 2009 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions

With Batts it's hard to tell

Maybe Batts just wasn’t grasping it or on board with it. Maybe Batts just didn’t fit for some peculiar reason and since he was a juco, why not let him go. Our defense seems to be doing better then most originally thought possible. Maybe in that line of thinking, maybe Batts going now in order to bring in more Sark type recruits is what this is really about.

Either way I’m cool with it. Our young defense looks in good shape and we’ve got one more scholarship to offer for this mega-blockbuster incoming recruiting class.

I Bark for Sark! WOOF!!!

All I saw was purple

I have little doubt they could clear out 4 more guys. I don’t want to name prime targets, but I think we can all go through the roster and pick out a few names that seem vulnerable.

As far as going over 25, if they can get any JC’s that can enroll early, they can count against the small 2009 class.

by kirkd on Sep 16, 2009 4:36 PM PDT up reply actions

They could be frosh that enroll early

Maybe a few of these kids can fisnish up school in time for spring quarter.

by John Berkowitz on Sep 16, 2009 4:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep, and I’m sure they are encouraging those kids that can to do so. I’d hazard a guess that Montana is probably in a position academically where he could graduate early…

by kirkd on Sep 16, 2009 4:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Montana said he's not a candidate for that

Due to his transfer.

Bummer – QB is the position you’d most want to get that Spring Practice head start.

by kirkd on Sep 16, 2009 6:58 PM PDT up reply actions

On Scholarship righ now at UW.

I think it is 80 or 81. If they take 30 they will cream the crop on what they have on the rosternright now.

by bigdawgdaddy999 on Sep 16, 2009 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Montana

He and Koehler would be a couple of possibilities since they go to a private prep school. You can usually pick up enough credits to graduate early. Kurt Mangum did it a couple of years ago.

Cooper

Dawgman has him listed at 5’11" 175, is that accurate?
