Tim Floyd Resigns amid Scandal at USC

The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss., reported Tuesday that Floyd submitted a one-paragraph letter of resignation to athletic director Mike Garrett. This is a precursor of coming events to happen at USC. Looks like the NCAA is ready to hand down sanctions on the Trojans. Floyd running away and afraid to take punishment for his basketball team. It could be a hot summer for Trojan fans.

Guilty!

One more shoe is scheduled to fall on the USC football program before the season begins.

If you are a historian – the rise in football in the Don James era coincided with the probation of 1/2 of the Pac 10 conference including USC.

Floyd never defended himself and resigned…there is now a smoking hot poker pointed toward the football program. Most insiders think USC will accept some type of plea deal for the Bush conspiracy.

It will be interesting to see what happpens…most think Coach Caroll will head for the NFL.

I don't think they are assumptions

Since the LA media is reporting that the USC athletic department is about to be severely sanctioned it isn’t that hard two put one and two together.

Curious...

who made that report?

Scott Wolf?

I don’t recall reading that but I have been reading a lot of things lately trying to keep up with all this…

Basically and admission of guilt

I agree with John. Truthfully though, I’m a little sad to see Floyd go. The guy could bring in some decent recruits, but couldn’t get them to stick in his program for more than a year or two, and as far as in-game tacticians go, he was definitely in the bottom of the conference with Ernie Kent and Herb Sendek. Under Floyd SC would never have been anything better than what they are now: a middling Pac-10 team.

I like Floyd...

He cheated and passed money…he is done…sad because he never really had to do that. USC was on the rise without that crap. His college coaching career is over…bad choices.

by John Berkowitz on Jun 9, 2009 9:16 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, they were on the rise

and he didn’t have to do that, but he wanted to rise too quickly and went for the kind of players that required that little something extra. I don’t know that he had to do it even then or whether he just went along with the flow.

2 seconds to Midnight at USC

Floyd wouldn’t of resigned if he knew nothing was coming of the allegations. Time has run out in the USC Athletic Department with the NCAA. I think they know of some type of major sanctions are going to be handed down and are trying to clean house quickly with firings or resignations. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Garrett is fired or resigns.

Floyd resigned because he knew Garrett was lining him up for a mortar strike

Garrett was going to fire him once the investigation was complete avoiding a Jim O’Brien mess. He could then show cause. do it now and he has a lawsuit on his hands.

So they buy Floyd out show the NCAA that they are taking it seriously and they ride the storm out. Cheaper to buy him out (low 7 figures) then to get hammered in a lawsuit.

Who knows how it will end but you can see the chess pieces being moved on the board.

Payback

It’s about time the tables were turned and USC gets to see what we went through in the early 90’s. It’s just in time for Husky Nation to rise back to the top of the Pac10.

USC Press Release (A comment from general counsel Todd Dickey on the NCAA investigations.)

Todd Dickey, Senior Vice President – Administration said, "The University is cooperating fully in the continuing investigation with the NCAA and Pac-10 into all allegations of NCAA and Pac-10 rules violations at USC. The University, the NCAA and Pac-10 have jointly conducted interviews of approximately 50 witnesses. No conclusions have yet been reached.

You want wrath?

You’ll be surprised at how the Southland press is handling all this. Just check out today’s LA TImes at the following link:

When you get there, be sure to check out the 5 accompanying stories. There’s some serious journalism being done, and the entire USC Athletic Dept. is being called out.

Did Todd Dickey Tip his hand!!!

He was just not talking about basketball, but football also…it is about all allegations and rules violations in the USC Athletic Department. WOW

Heck, we've been reading about them for awhile...

and to me it certainly seems like a lack of institutional control. I can’t think of anything we did that was quite so blatant. aside from winning a lot of games. I’d prefer to beat a strong USC than a watered down version though. .They should be punished if the transgressions are real, but it used to be a lot of fun to watch games of the type that created the name for this blog.

Aren’t they protected in some manner from investigations by being a private school? If so, at a minimum, that needs to be changed.
