Durocher headed to CWU

Johnny Durocher is returning to a football stadium near you as QB for the Central Washington Wildcats. Durocher;s career took a detour after he discovered he had a benign brain tumor which was removed. The Mariners gave him a chance as a pitcher and the was progressing nicely until he suffered an arm injury. Then it was back to football working out at the IMG sports camp this spring to try to get some notice from the NFL. Since that didn't materialize he is back for one more season on the collegiate level at his third school.

We all love Johnny and we wish him the best at Central.

Good kid – sad about the tumor – wouldn’t wish that on anybody — just wondering if his father will now burn all his Husky gear – hmmm.

Best of luck to Johnny – glad he still has the option of playing college ball, and hopefully he plays well enough to attract some pro attention. And if not, he’ll at least have maximized his playing options so he’ll be able to look back and say he gave it every effort…

I think what it came down to is that Durocher made a lousy decision in signing w/ Oregon in the first place. Oregon was going head first into the Spread and opted out of recruiting the pro style QBs and went with multi-talented “spread” QB guys. You know the flavor- college QBs that look good in college because of the gimmicky college spread, but won’t make it to the pros as a QB. Yeah that guy.

Durocher chose to sign with Oregon, thus the transfer and then the bad luck w/ health issues. This just proves one thing that the letter of intent is a huge decision. I just hope future recruits see the vision of coach Sark and Holt. This place is going to be USC-North up here, both in scheme and talent. In fact I will state it for the record- it’s a three legged race to dethrown the Tommy Trojans. Arizona State so far is the front runner, Ucla is a distant second and cruising, but let me tell ya fellas- Washington is closing the gap FAST, just shifted down, and is ready to drop the hammer! I see Washington blowing the doors off both ASU and Ucla and Washington will be the first school to dethrown USC- I’m predicting year 3 of Sark and Holt.

Best of luck Johnny, give em’ hell! WOOF!!!

Thanks Dude...

If any of us can remember what it felt like to be a Husky fan during the 91 campaign, which is a distant memory due to our fall from grace lately- I like to think that I am still the voice of 91. I’m stoked for this coaching staff and excited for what has been happening at the UofW in the last 5 months. We’ve got more to be excited about in the last 5 months then what we’ve had for the last 5 years, how pathetic is that?

I remember the 91 Husky defense. I remember back then how I wished we’d either score or punt just so I could watch that dominating Husky D come at you in swarms. I can’t recall ever in my lifetime ever seeing a college defense so dominating. With that said I like to create the illusion that I am the voice of that 91 Husky defense. I’m in your face, I am intimidating, and I don’t screw around- I just come after you. At times I may get carried away (ask Lear), but I try to keep everything above the belt.

Our fanbase needs to be out of control. We’ve gotten way too relaxed on what we expect and the Washington brass has relaxed too. We expect to win and the Washington brass should expect to win as well. This place use to be an out of control situation up here. The stuff you see in the SEC? That pandamonium and hysteria use to rock this place. Nowadays we just sit on our hands and wait. And let me tell you, Oregon has taken complete advantage of us sitting on our hands and waiting. Those guys don’t have the tradition to be a top 10 program annually. How did they get where they are? Oregon partnered up with Phil Knight & Nike and went on a promotional spree while we sat on our hands. Eventually all the recruits that use to come to Washington instead started beating down the door at Oregon.

Sark and Holt are the perfect match for us. And about the only coaches in America that could possibly bring us back to where we should be, which is an annual trip to the top 10- something Oregon took from us. Yes, Oregon took it while we sat on our hands with one lame coaching hire after another. Ask Belloti and Knight how this all came about. Oregon captured the future while we were looking back at our gloried past and it caught up to us. We’ll get it back. Hiring Sark and Holt was phase 1, recruiting and winning is phase 2, selling out the stadium and pushing season tickets thru the roof is phase 3, and rennovating the stadium is the final phase of total restoration.

Go Dawgs! WOOF!!!

Good post Crazi and don't forget...

…that SC went through some tough years too. Granted it doesn’t compare to what we’ve been through but just saying and what held them together with hope for the future? Tradition, they had that great tradition and knew they’d be back. We’re there right now. We’ve got the tradition and the UW and Seattle and Husky Stadium. Great things to build the future on. Now we need to all get on the bandwagon and support this team! GO DAWGS!!

What crippled USC back then?

The game had evolved and USC was still stuck in there “student body left … student body right” approach. Sort of what you see with Nebraska nowadays, yet reversed. The Conrhuskers wishbone option offense is their fortei (sp?). In fact the entire State of Nebraska is basically known for Husker Football and the wishbone option is Cornhusker Football. Without it they have lost their identity and that is what they’ve been- LOST!

The Huskers have been experimenting with the spread offense. The spread offense is more or less an evolutionary process stemming from the option offensive attacks. That is one reason why you see it in places that use to be known for option football, i.e. the SEC, Big Eight, and Southwest Conferense locals.

Nebraska can’t go to the spread, it will kill them in recruiting. Oklahoma and Texas have been running it for years and if you are a prep recruit from that area you become either a Sooner or Longhorn. Nebraska doesn’t have a recruiting niche right now. They went West Coast and can’t get kids because USC has been hoarding them all. So where does that leave the Huskers? Dead in the water! At this point Nebraska only has one option- and that is to go back to their option (Traditional Wishbone Option football). This way the Huskers have a recruiting niche. They can recruit the biggest baddest O linemen and the bigest baddest RBs and the nastiest defensive players. Theirs your recruiting niche- power running game and the “Black Shirt” defense. It’s too bad they can’t figure this out…

Nebraska has run out of options and have no choice but to go back to the option. Back to USC…

The Trojans fell from grace because they did not evolve with the game. The passing game, more precisely the west coast passing game spread to all points in the country. The passing game had evolved and great California QB recruits were going to places other then USC. They were coming to Washington (Brunell) and they were going down to Miami and Florida State. Notice since USC has become the “it” school how miserable both Miami and Florida State have become mediocre? All the USC Heismens back in the day were RBs. Yet since 2000 USC has produced to Heismen QBs to one Heisemen RB. Right there is evidence of the evolutionary process USC under went.

Our problem? It’s not like we haven’t evolved. Our problem is that we didn’t have an eye for the future [Enter the Oregon upstart] and we made one bad coaching hire after another. Those two things right there gutted the program to mere dry rot. Thank god we finally have hired some folks that have an eye for the future, because major college football is just like in the business world, “if you ain’t growing then you’re dying”.

Exactly...

…things can change quickly and tradition and natural advantages do exist with demographics etc. It was interesting to me when Carroll came into to USC. The SC alumni were livid and not happy about the hire. He brought in the defensive savvy personally and was smart enough to surround himself with a great offensive staff. Things clicked just right and we’ve all seen the result, a juggernaut down south. This is another reason that I think Emmert/Woodward pulled a huge coup by landing both Sark and Holt and starting the shift of power away from SC.

The Key to the Sark Hire

Was Nick Holt. We’ve seen prominent USC assistants under Carroll get head coaching jobs and fail miserably. The reason? They did not put together gifted coaching staffs. Sark has Nick Holt to oversee and develope the defense into a meat grinder- defense is that man’s fortay (sp?)

Always remember a good or great head coach is only as good or great as his assistant coaches. We are going to come out smelling like a rose on this one and that smell will ultimate lead us back to Pasadena.

As you can see I was all around “forte”. I thought after using the word multiple times I would eventuallys stumble upon the correct spelling- not so much. Thanks for the correction.

Good

I seem to remember him and Lear bantering back and forth a bit when I first came on this site. Is that an accurate observation? I’m glad we aren’t all yes men here.

That would be accurate

Gekko tends to take a “unique” view on some things, I think sometimes he just did it for the reactions, but I do miss our “banter”. I agree with you, I’m very glad we aren’t all “yes men”, it’s amazing how we can all LOVE the Huskies, yet we can have very different opinions about our Huskies.
