LB Bradly Roussel checks out

LB Bradly Roussel has left the team according to various sources. Bradly never had a smooth go of it at Washington but he is a good kid from a nice family who will end up playing closer to home at a smaller school.

Roussel was a great HS player who was a little too small for this level of competition. He also had a problem with eligibility this spring which didn't really make a good impression with the new staff.

We all wish him the best and will keep an eye on him at his new school.

I think it is a pretty good bet that he ends up at Tulane if he gets his grades and credits in order.

Not a surprise (for multiple reasons). Good luck to Bradly, and hopefully he finds a good situation for himself.

Branden Warner

You know Kirk that could be an intriguing possibility.

by John Berkowitz on Jun 16, 2009 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

Well, I would think that if Tivao is iffy that Sark would think about Warner, assuming that there’s still mutual interest. Even if Tivao qualifies, there’s room now for Warner, and if Tivao doesn’t, Warner provides a nice option for the middle of the defense.

Warner?

Hi John, I must have missed something in the loop.Whats up with Warner? Isn’t he a UCLA signer? Thanks

by Juneautom on Jun 17, 2009 9:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Never ended up signing the dotted line

He had problems paying the bill at his JC so they didn’t release the transcripts in time for him to sign. I guess he is a free agent. Whether his grades are good enough to get into UW or UCLA is a different matter. UCLA is slightly harder to get into for a JC.

by John Berkowitz on Jun 17, 2009 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions

If his grades are in order and he can gain admittance into the UW, I’d like to see Sark go after him again. There’s room now, and if Tivao is iffy that makes Warner good insurance for the depth charts – in fact, the talk was his ability was good enough that he could compete for a starting job with UCLA. If that’s true, he’s probably be in the starting mix for the UW as well.

Yeah who knows...

…maybe he’ll qualify and Tivao won’t? Good defensive tackles are hard to come by.

How is Tulane close to here?

Not like the Utah Jazz... it's about REAL jazz. Go Dawgs, Go Blazers!

It's not...

Roussel is from Louisiana.

by B Money on Jun 17, 2009 2:13 AM PDT up reply actions

Tulane

He was commited to Tulane at one time so there is probably still some mutual interest.

by John Berkowitz on Jun 17, 2009 6:29 AM PDT reply actions

This was one of the more wierd recruitments I've seen

1) Bradly was offered and commited to UW.
2) dropped for some reason by UW.
3) Offered and commited to Tulane.
4) A bunch of UW coaches went down to Tulaneto try and get him back
5) He re-comites to UW.

I think this is how it went – very odd.

Good luck to Bradly and I hope he finds a great situation for himself.

Put it on Willingham

Tormey wanted him and they looked at his filme and offered him.

On his visit Ty took one look at him and decided to rescind the offer even though he had already commited.

Tormey continued to fight for him.

When UW didn’t get who they wanted they had an extra scholarship left and they gave it to Roussel.

Roussel got into Ty’s dog house the first week he stepped on campus and Willingham began the process of running him off the team.

He got a second chance under the new staff but missed most of the Spring with academic issues.

He could have stuck around but by mutual decision he decided to move on to a place where he could play.

Good Luck Bradly!

It was kind of a strange relationship with Bradly and UW. First being offerred then having the offer pulled back then having the offer again after other high profile LB’s committed elsewhere.

I know he probably wasn’t Pac 10 caliber but this takes a greater hit to our depth at the LB position. Hopefully we can get a few LB’s in.

Wide Open?

Some of these LBs should be intrigued by the opportunity Washington presents now. After this season, if I’m not mistaken, all of the starting positions are wide open.

Good luck, Bradly!

Yes, a strange tale. Even in his official roster picture he looks kind of sad and lost. I bet he’ll be happy to be home.

Just another reason...

why Washington and Northwest kids should have priority in recruiting.

FWIW, from what I’ve heard the issues with Roussel had nothing to do with the distance between Seattle and Louisiana.

by kirkd on Jun 17, 2009 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with Kirk

This was about Bradly seeing that he probably wasn’t going to get alot of playing time at UW.

by Snostrebla on Jun 17, 2009 4:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually, I think there were off-the-field issues that contributed to this as well. Nothing particularly bad IMO, just kids being kids.

by kirkd on Jun 17, 2009 5:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Not a big deal as far as I am concerned.

by John Berkowitz on Jun 17, 2009 5:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Help, I'm with June

I got the Roussel story, but what about Banden Warner (JC transfer to UCLA, DT) and Tiavo, a JC DT that signed with UW?

And good luck to Roussel, maybe Ty actually got this one right.

by dawgdude on Jun 17, 2009 10:23 AM PDT reply actions

Warner told UCLA no thanks

This situation with Warner looks like a total mess. Probably didn’t have grades. He’s looking at SMU, New Mexico State, and Ohio U. After signing a commitment letter to UCLA and then telling them no, I do not know what it would take to recruit him if he is eligible.

Nope Sark is correcting a Wrong

Ty screwed this thing up from the beginning. First of all I think Ty was correct that the kid was not capable of being a regular in the Pac 10. Tulane? Are you kidding? The problem with all this is that Ty was not a satisfactory recruiter for our standards, much like at Notre Dame. He said no to a kid who committed, but Ty wasn’t a deal closer for the recruits he was holding out for- that was the trend for four stinkin’ years under the Ty flag.

Mutual or not, Sark made the right decision to let this kid go. How many bigtime LB prospects are still on the 2010 wish list? This is a HUGE selling point to get the right kind of LB in here so that we can build a Pac 10 caliber defense around him. It opens up room on the depth chart to lure great LB talent in here that want to play early in their college careers. This is one way we are recruiting agaist USC. The Trojans will tell you “the best players will play”. That usually means upper classmen. Yet we are rebuilding and we have holes everywhere. We can recruit up against USC because we have something to offer that SC doesn’t- PLAYING TIME!

This is a bold decision to allow us to sign a top notch LB prospect within this 2010 class. Sorry Roussel, but those are the breaks- this is bigtime major college football and we mean business!

Sorry Juneau

I’ve been there many times and enjoy your town. “Autom” didn’t make much sense, but this isn’t rocket science, and I was curious how these other names popped up about Roussel. Still don’t know why Tiavo was mentioned, I hope he isn’t having problems also.

Tiavo is the last JC recruit we are waiting for...

out of the ones in last years class. All the others have either been first hand confirmed qualified or second hand confirmed.

So you're saying all of the JCs are...

…most likely in except for Tivao?

The early word from Dawgman.com is that all of them except Tivao are currently looking good. There had been some concern about Mafoe, but his JC teammate Batts insists that he’s good to go and will be up here soon.

by kirkd on Jun 17, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep

I believe Gaisie, Boyce, Batts and Mahan are all already qualified and will be on campus in July. Batts plays at El Camino along with Mafoe and told Dawgman in a recent interview that Mafoe had qualified also. That leaves Tivao.

Here's hoping the "bowling ball" ie Tivao...

…makes it in. We could really use another anchor to soften up opposing centers.

NCAA Clearing House

I wonder how many guys will be held up by them? On some of these kids in the past it would take them so long to make a decision on a kid. Why in the world is that?

Who's Victor Riley?

Who’s this Victor Riley kid? Can’t find him on Dawgman. Apparently he has turned heads at Oregon, Notre Dame, and Ucla. The RB,Safety is coming up to visit the UDub campus and check us out. Supposively one of the state of California’s best athletes. This guy sort of came out of the woodwork, becuase he isn’t listed anywhere that I know of.

A HUGE recruit in the grand scheme of things

Big, fast Safety/runninghback that is probably on the top of Sarks list. He would be a huge pick up. He has mentioned though that he may wait until January to make a choice…so dont expect anything soon.

Carroll getting on board with LA

I didn’t watch the LA Lakers parade, but I did hear that Pete Carroll was at the LA Collesium (sp?) and was quoted in the local papers down there. Question: What the hell does Pete Carroll have to do with anything remotely associated with the LA Lakers championship?

Answer: Nothing

It is no secret that the USC brass is attempting to use the LA Laker victory party as a stage to land SoCal recruits and recruits all over the NBA playing basketball landscape. Carroll and the USC brass who organized the collesium party are attempting to lure in SoCal recruits by tying in with the Lakers, making it all feel like an LA thing.

Pete Carroll is no dummy. This guy is a master wizzard recruiter. Tying USC to the LA Laker victory party is a great tool and Carroll is using everything that it’s worth. I’d personally love to see how many bigtime recruits Carroll and the USC brass had sitting sideline at the collesium while the Laker party was going on. I can see the recruiting slogan during all this- “Its an LA Thing”

P.S. I rooted for Orlando for this particular reason.
