Fun to watch

It’s great to have the coaches mic’d up, especially for the recruits to get an idea of what practice is like once you’re a player here. I really hope we see more of this.

One thing the Athletic Department needs to do with these videos is to label them better. Naming it “Spring #1” is so generalized that NO ONE searching ’University of Washington Football" or “UW Football” on Youtube will ever find this video, which is a shame especially for the past greats videos they put out for Tui, Entman, etc. John, pass that along!

That’s why people need to bookmark coachsark.com and check it regularly… :)

For those of us that love recruiting...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=West_Recruiting

I want you to read carefully and tell me if you notice a trend…oh well here it is. Washington is mentioned for every recruit mentioned.

Montana wants to take a trip, Shaw has had us #1 for a long time now, we were the first to offer Tevin, and Demetrius Wrights top 4 are USC, Florida (top 2), Oklahoma and UW…that is a great list to be on. Hopefully Sark gets Heaps or Scoggins to commit early and solidify this class early. Love the way things are shaping up.

by bigdave967 on May 7, 2009 4:43 PM PDT reply actions

Also there is Troy Hill

who has repeated stated that he wanted to commit to UW but wants to make sure he is making the right choice. I think ultimately we will land him.

by bigdave967 on May 8, 2009 5:30 AM PDT up reply actions

I find this amazing as well. Guys are naming their top 4, with USC and Oklahoma at the top WITH Washington. Sark is selling UW as well as he possibly could to these high school kids.

A friend of mine who interacts with Sark occasionally says he’s constantly tapping away at his blackberry, assumedly texting with recruits and coaches (who have huge influence) as much as he’s allowed. He’s not sitting back and trusting that the other coaches can sell this as well as him. And that’s a big change from Willingham.

by PhinneyDawg on May 8, 2009 8:36 AM PDT up reply actions

I noticed that, too...

Hey John (or anyone),
I think I know the answer to this, but I’ll ask anyway…
Did ol’ what’s-his-name…you know, the last guy…did he put out this many offers (or anything close) and just not follow up successfully? Or did he totally blow it off and just focus on a few here and there.

He did get a few good players, obviously, but I get the feeling that if Sark is 50% successful (i.e., gets half the guys he wants), it will put us about 75% ahead of where we’ve been…
Accurate or no?

by Tunnelrat on May 8, 2009 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions

50%

If he gets 50% of the guys he wants this will be a top 10 class. I am sure if he can pull in 25% of the kids he wants we would be in great shape. Sark is recruiting againist the big boys and isnt afraid. He has offers to the best Cali has to offer as well as Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Hawaii

by bigdave967 on May 8, 2009 12:48 PM PDT up reply actions

No Way!

Sark is recruiting at a much higher level than Willingham.

As far as offers this early goes there is little comparison between the recent past and present.. Sark is in on the top guys while Willingham worked the usual suspects in state and shied away from competition out of state. UW picked up way too many non Pac 10 guys ubder Willingham.

Uniforms

Did you guys see the video of our players modeling the new uniforms? I think they do look better with bodies in them and they are an improvement over what we had. I kind of like the white away unis. They look good with the dark stripe. Hopefully the purple pants (darker shade and shiny) will make a cameo appearance sometime in the future.

by doubledeucedawg on May 7, 2009 6:53 PM PDT reply actions

Still wasnt a huge fan of the all white

but they did look a LOT better on actual people.

by bigdave967 on May 8, 2009 5:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Watch the reaction of the players when the all white comes out. They were pumped. And that’s the point of all this: the uniforms are mainly for the players and potential recruits. It’s a point of motivation and pride for the players.

Whereas fans show up to see winners no matter what they look like. See: Oregon.

I really like the stripe

That double purple stripe with the gold in the middle. I like it what can I say? I still hope the purple pants come back in a beautiful dark shiny purple. GO DAWGS!!

I actually really like the uniforms. Definitely a step in the right direction. Like John has said, this might be the darkest purple they can get with the current uniform material. A brighter gold might actually look pretty weird nowadays.

I could take or leave the purple pants. And I hope to never see the purple helmets ever again. Don’t touch the helmets.

by PhinneyDawg on May 8, 2009 12:58 PM PDT up reply actions

The Gold Helmets Rule!

Don’t EVER go back to the dull grape lids! I love the purple pants but I think they changed the shade of those too. Lately it’s been more of a dull look. I remember seeing Huskies from the Don James era in purple pants and they were gorgeous. I never liked the big W though.

I don't care what they wear...

…as long as it features the blood of their opponents as part of the color scheme.

by John Berkowitz on May 8, 2009 8:05 AM PDT reply actions

All white would really be good for that...

they will need to hire a whole squad of mothers to get those grass and blood stains out though, along with a lot of Tide bleach.

by bigdave967 on May 8, 2009 8:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Excellent points both of you!!

Let ‘em stay dirty. As long as the guys hit so hard the stains won’t come out I’m fine with a little grime.

Uniforms...

…I actually like the white uniforms a lot. The home look good but would be better with a more true gold as has been said here repeatedly. Those white ones are going to grow on you just wait and see. The purple piping is nice…

by Dawgs71 on May 8, 2009 1:32 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed

The gold of the 2001 uniforms was perfect! Don’t really know why they won’t go back to that. Probably because everything has to be “new” for a new regime.

Sark and Nicky

Both of these coaches will GET UP IN YOUR GRILL! They’re not afraid of doing that. You saw Sark telling that player he just wants him to max out his effort each and every play. Play to the tempo of what the coaches want. Nicky, well. . . .he has a bit of a different approach. Both approaches are appreciable. Think, bad cop/good cop.

The assistants update and review each and every player. The coaches KNOW each player’s max thresholds and they’ll hold ‘em to it. If they don’t see it: be it on the practice field, in the weight room, and in their playbook assignments- the players will get a mouthful.

This is what I meant earlier when I said that Sark and Nicky will change things, in a different manner than the way Coach Willingham had done. Nothing new, or newfangled. Just more hands-on, more approachable, and more open to feedback from their players.

Go Sark Go! See Sark Go!

John

I haven’t seen the blog this inactive. Is John OK? Hopefully he’s just busy right now and we can talk some recruiting soon. GO DAWGS!!

Not a whole lot to talk about this time of year – there’s recruiting updates here and there, but until Fall camp starts there’s not a lot of football info (or basketball info either).

by kirkd on May 11, 2009 10:16 AM PDT up reply actions

Very true. Unless Heaps commits or Sark goes on a recruiting rampage and picks up 7 more recruits before Fall, it will likely be a very slow summer.

John

He had mentioned that he is going to be very busy for the next couple months. It is up to us to keep the blog going. Post anything you want to discuss.
