Dawgs New Commit ?
According to ESPN and Scout.com (scout lists him as a soft verbal), UW locked up kicker Alejandro Maldonado from Colton, California. He is the eight commit for the Dawgs in the 2010 class.
Neither ESPN or Scout.com has him rated, but the Scout.com story does note that he made 19 of 20 attemps in some form of workout and was offered by Sark and company. The story also mentions that he may be able to graduate early and join the team sooner than later.
Depending on the way the Kicking Team pans out this season I could see this being the second biggest commit of the entire class. A young kicker that can come in as a freshman and contribute well could be one of the cornerstones of Sark's rebuilding efforts.

A new kicker was a big priority
He is supposed to be the top HS kicker in the country let alone the best in California.
He is also an extremely soft commit at this point if you read the story in Dawgman. I am not sure if the kid or his coach really understands the terminology because he is still looking at other schools.
“My coach was telling me that a verbal commitment means I’m interested in the school. I want to open up my options, but I’m really interested in Washington. It’s my first offer, and I can’t wait to go out to the school and meet the coaches and the players.”
I think he has high interest but I think the actual deal is far from being sealed for the above reasons.
Yeah, this one is ending up as expected based off the initial reports. Maldonado hasn’t committed, he’s just interested is all.
Problems can arise when you have a prospect that is ESL and a kicking coach that doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about when it comes to college football recruiting.
He may yet be a Dawg, but he isn’t one right now.
Hopefully we jumped on him early enough to sway him...
I know his coach said something to the effect of “they may have just stolen him from the LA schools”
"He can kick it out of the end zone and he can hit from 65 off grass."
Unreal if it’s not just typical coach speak. His Coach also seems to think that they have a huge leg up right now.
He doesn’t have any other offers yet either, which is a good sign…but if he’s as good as advertised than you’d think at least a couple other schools would have offered already.
It's good we're in on him early...
…and apparently the kid punts well too. He’d be a nice get.

Bob C. talks Fogerson's Re-Commitment
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskyfootballblog/2009222191__right_now_im_defintiley.html
I am not a big fan of …
“I talked to coach Sark about that and he asked me ‘are you coming to Washington?’ And I said ‘I am,’‘’ Fogerson said. "And he said as a coach, if you are just taking trips just to go, don’t waste their time. I talked to (O’Dea High) coach (Monte) Kohler and he said the same thing. So I’m probably not going to take any trips.’’
I am not happy that Sark would say that. I know what he means, like dont take the ugly girl to prom when you want the homecoming queen at the end of the night, but still. Take your trips! This is the one time you will be treated like a king and get to visit really cool places for free.
Either way, obviously I am stoked he is a Dawg but be a dawg and have some fun while your young.
Yeah I see your point...
…I guess it comes down to whether you’re committed or not. The coaches and the prospective student athletes have a vested interest in knowing one way or the other. I think what Sark means is that you’re either committed or you’re not. If you’re committed then why take the trips? If you’re not then let us know so we can figure out which direction to go from here. It’s definitely a two way street.
Washington Husky Football-1991 National Champions
Sark just told him the truth from his perspective. As a coach you don’t want a high school kid jerking you around just for a free trip and a laugh. The coaches put a lot of work and $$$ into recruit’s visits.
From a HS recruit standpoint, taking the trips is a fun idea. But alas, sometimes you have to grow up and show loyalty to your true love.
Its great that Fogerson is back on board and I love that Sark firmed up his commitment with one phone call.
Fogerson
He is a 17-18 year old kid making a HUGE decision. Why not take advantage and see other schools? What does Sark care if he is 100% committed either way? What is Sark going to dump him because he takes a couple of free trips to make sure he is making the right choice that will affect him the rest of his life? Highly unlikely. Like i said, if there is no doubt about UW then fair enough, but this is a big decision for him to make.
I know this is probably an unpopular view but we have to remember that this will have a direct effect on the rest of his life. Either way really glad he is a DAWG!
Lear and Gekko
Where are those guys? They usually post here quite a bit but as we all know this is probably the slowest time of the year for football.
Sheesh! Even Crazi’s been missing in action.

I'm here, sort of . . .
I’m out of town, I’ve been going through my yearly simulator training, and just passed my checkride last night. Needless to say, I’ve been a good boy and have been keeping my nose in the books and haven’t had much time to post. That, and it’s 100 degrees and sunny, so as any good Seattle-lite, I’ve been enjoying it while I can!
"Bow Down to Washington"
"Kick the tires and light the fires!"
Good to hear...
…you’re still around and enjoying that sun. I guess it’s going to be close to 90 here on the eastside by Monday! ;O)
Looks like we’re going from winter to summer…again!

Even I am posting less because of work committments right now. Look forward to 3-4 articles a week now through the end of June depending on what is going on out there.

Brockman
Check out this quote from Jon Brockman in an interview on gohuskies.com :
“GoHuskies: Did you attend any football practices this spring? How do you think the team is doing?
Jon: “I was in L.A. and I couldn’t go to the spring game and I’ve been so busy I wasn’t able to make any of the practices. I do see a lot of the guys in the weight room every day. It is always interesting to see the guys who come in to get more work and there seems to be more and more doing that this year – doing the extra lifting. Coming in on their own and spending more time in the weight room. That is great to see. (The players’) mindset seems to be a little different. There seems to be more of an upbeat, exciting feel. I think they are going to surprise some people.”
I love the sound of that
I’d like to see the Dawgs smash some mouth this season, we need the attitude back.
At least....
We are one of this guys top schools right now.We really need a new kicker. The kicking game costed us 2 possible wins last year against BYU and Washington State. I think we had something like 3 missed field goals against WSU. If our kicking game doesn’t get better this year it could come back to haunt us1

Another Verbal?
According to Realdawg the Huskies picked up another verbal. Tevin Carter 6’3" 190 lb WR/S from Los Angeles. This is what kills me about these recruiting ratings, the kid is listed as a one star but he has offers from just about all the Pac-10 schools except for U$C.

Pos Rank: NR = Not Ranked
I believe most of those single star kids are yet “unranked”.
It is confusing, I agree, just put down “unranked” rather that one star.
He hasn't been evaluated yet
It takes thema while to go through all the film, camp, and combine results.

Not confirmed by Dawgman
Till it is it is just a rumor.

Dawgman...
now has confirmation on thier website. Tevin Carter is a Dawg!!

1 Star Carter?
This tells me that our coaching staff is working faster and more efficient then the .coms. I see Carter moving up to at least a 4 star recruit once the .coms get their hands on him.
Our coaching staff knows talent and that is all we need. Expect Carter to rise to 4 or 5 star status soon.
All I saw was purple
Given the offers he has already in May, I’d expect he’ll be at least a 3-star guy, with the definite potential to move into 4-star territory depending on additional offers, if he attends combines where he can be measured and how he looks during his Sr. season.
Sounds about right to me...
Most of the 4 start guys have already been looked at. He should definately be a solid 3 star and if he has a breakout Senior year then he could shift up to a 4.
Carter rating
Expect three stars because they have already decided on all the 4-5 stars. It is very rare for a an unevaluated one to go to a 4-5.

Zach Fogerson
Interesting…I thought I read somewhere Zach Fogerson might get an additional star with further evaluation and move into the 4 star category.
Not that it’s all that important — save for recruiting bragging rights.
It’s what the coaches see that’s important and right now I really trust in what Sark & Co. are seeing!
An offer from Michigan...
That can get you an extra star.
by John Berkowitz on May 18, 2009 7:45 AM PDT up reply actions
I can see that
and whoop-de-doo about stars, but do you know how frequently monster senior years move a guy up. Or, say he works his way down to a 10.5 or 6 in the 100m? A lot of these guys’ bodies are still changing especially if they realize early how much work they need to put in to excel in college. Nah, too many things to consider to predict anything like that.

I think they're more impressed with his suitors...
…compared to his performance.

Rankings
The rankings will change quite a bit once all the teams have run their summer camps. The guys at Scout, Rivals, ect. will be at these and be able to see these guys up close and then more accuratly rate them. As of right now, if you look at Scout, you’ll see they have no film on Tevin and he is a one star which basically means – they don’t know much about this kid right now.
Quick google to find this.

Great job by the staff! They’re in on some high profile guys and are working their tales off. It’s great to see and a good sign.
