Joe Callero who is an area native is leaving Seattle U to become the basketball coach at Cal Poly SLO. Most of us thought he would have stayed around longer since it seemed rebuilding the Seattle U program was a dream of his,

Maybe...

…there were some behind the scene things going on? It doesn’t seem to be a big move up in comparison to his stated dream to build this program up. It looked like everything was going real well from the outside. I remember your interview with him John, was a very positive one and so this is a complete suprise to most. He seemed to have good job security, recruits, support etc.

Would this be the type of job

that would fit Dollar? It would make the UW/Seattle game pretty interesting, that’s for sure.

Dollar?

I don’t think it pays enough to attract Dollar or Shaw.

When you lose a guy that has been their for eight years to Cal Poly SLO it means that you aren’t paying very much.

Thanks, didn't know what.

the status of the SU job was. Still, it would look pretty good on a resume to make the program respectable again.

Choices

Callero had a choice to tough it out and build over the next four years or jump at a job with better pay right now while he was still reasonably hot.

It doesn’t hurt that Cal Poly also signed him to a five-year, $180,000 annual contract. His salary at Seattle U, a private university, was undisclosed.
