Good job John

I hope it stays civil.

The first Husky site I used to visit everyday was Dawgman, they’ve moved to second.

Happy Easter to you, Kate and the rest that visit here.

"rational and positive thinking"

I totally agree that this site is rational and positive (and constructrive), and that is the reason why I stop by every day. And read everything that is here. You do a great job here John, along with the other contributors both with content and tone. As do the comments, fortunately!

So you should sign up and be a part of this. It’s really pretty great!

bingo, same here with me. Dawgman was always my first stop, but the b—-ing got to me and then posters even started to turn on posidawgs like burntridge after driving out long time posters such as huskydodger. I have so many guys on ignore now over there, that it makes it a real short stay.
johnb, keep it up, and lets all keep the civility up. We all get frustrated now and then and say something we would never say, but it needs to be the exception.
I think the dawgs go a minimum of 6-6. Only 2 losses for sure USC, LSU. Should be wins WSU, Idaho. Advantage UW :Furd, Arizona. Advantage opponent: Ore St Ore Cal UCLA ND Toss ups ASU

BRD

is in the middle a major landscaping project on his “retirement” farm/nursery so we haven’t hooked up to get up to a practice this go round. He should be able to get up there next week (20th) but I’ll be fooling around in Vegas from Monday through Thursday that week, back in time for the Spring Game.

Things have settled down a little bit on Dawgman or maybe I have enough guys on ignore I don’t read their crap:-)

I’m thinking 4 wins but I’d be very happy with six and a bowl berth. I’ll be at whatever and whenever they make a bowl.

Grinolds did some much needed pruning

Kim did some pruning but IMHO they still have some work to do. The chat room which I used to really enjoy has really gone to pot for the most part. For some reason people think that they are the show rather than the topics most want to discuss. If Chris, Scott, or Kim aren’t there it is pretty much idiot land.

In DM’s defense they do a fantastic job editorially and pruning is an expensive proposition in a recession.

We have some great monitoring programs in place here so I don’t really think we will end up evolving the same way.

by John Berkowitz on Apr 12, 2009 8:31 AM PDT up reply actions

Chat

I very seldom go to the chat any more, in fact, it’s been a few months. When I check out Dm.c in the evening I see people in the chat but don’t go into the room.

Chatting was a lot more fun 10 years ago.

I don’t know what happened slbob, Kim didn’t prune him (he says) but he hasn’t been hijacking threads like he did for a lot of years.

The only thing that irks me over there now is people telling me what to think or how I should think. I was debriefed from that way of doing business Dec. 23, 1968, the day I was discharged from the Navy, my all time favorite Christmas present. I can’t bitch about my Navy time, the electronics/computer training I received there ultimately paid for all I have now.

Except for Ruth....

We had some great times then she would come in and just kill it.

Congrats to the Navy!

Excellent job! I used to work EW on the USAF’s special ops birds and got to hang out with some SEALS on occasion. I thought it was funny that they’d puke when we’d fly low level terrain following missions. I made sure to preface every snicker with a free beer though. Serious dudes.

Hair,

I just got done spending 10 yrs in the Air Force where I sat 5 inches to the left of the EWO on the “Chariot of Armageddon”. I miss the low levels that’s for sure.

oh, the new days

I thought you were a radio operator for a sec until I remembered that they moved the EWO up front on the II’s. I was part of the test and eval team that went to Edwards. Low levels were fun when they still took us TDY. I was at Rhein-Main and we used to go to England and Greece and try to hide from intercepts. We’d strap in and act as observers on the ramp. Fun, except for the occasion less than zero g moment.

by hairofthedawg on Apr 13, 2009 1:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Just in case

you didn’t know, the Talon 1’s had an EWO and Radio operator, ditty-bop, taking up about the first pallet space below the flight deck. Man, I couldn’t have asked for a better job as an enlisted electronics geek. Did you ever run into Ron
Schwarz? Walt Herrera? I talked briefly with Walt in the late 90’s in Korea and saw Ron but didn’t get a chance to speak with him. They’re both types that might have made enough rank to still be in.

Come on, John.

Obviously I’m not one of the “positive” thinkers here, but if you mean “they still have work to do” as in getting rid of the idiots that bait the half brain crowd all the time, then I agree.

I know that’s not what you mean though, so I’ll just say that the Dawgman staff couldn’t be more in the bag for Emmert unless they changed the site’s name to Pravda (or RealDawg, lol).

by discovolante on Apr 13, 2009 1:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Nah

I have no problems with the half brains or the BB baiters actually.

What I do have a problem with is the idiots who use the chat room for purposes other than discussing Husky Football. I always do a quick check when people are in there and they simply aren’t talking football. I think the one guy that drives me away the most is some guy named Kyle. The guy never insulted me or anything but typing one letter at a time spell outs about anything that pops into his mind or chatting about sex…etc…just kills it for me…. .It’s a college football chat room…talk about college football. I dont’ want to watch his fascination with Sachiko…. .

Maybe I am too hard core.

by John Berkowitz on Apr 13, 2009 8:01 AM PDT up reply actions

But...

Dawgman doesn’t ban those people….

They ban the people who call BS on all the ridiculously effusive praise of Emmert, Woodward, and the new staff.

So, what exactly do you mean by : “Grinolds did some much-needed pruning?”

by discovolante on Apr 13, 2009 10:47 AM PDT up reply actions

Pruning

He pruned around twenty guys that were causing problems on the boards. At $120 bucks per year per pop it cost them $2400 to do that. It is a recession and the Huskies are an 0-12 team. It is tough enough just keeping the good subscribers.

They ban the people who call BS on all the ridiculously effusive praise of Emmert, Woodward, and the new staff.

Dave, Kim, Chris, and Scott are extremely fair and tolerant. They have never banned someone ever for politely stating their opinion whether they agree with it or they don’t. They actually have been too fair for too long in my opinion. I really think some of the posters are really hurting an overall excellent product and most importantly turning people off who visit.

They have lot of subscribers who never post…they just read.

I post a comment or two but rarely write posts anymore because after a couple of comments the thread gets hijacked and moves on to who knows where. It is always the same idiots and you really can’t do much about it even though they get warned. Kim is pretty proactive.

by John Berkowitz on Apr 13, 2009 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Nonsense

Chris is such an antagonist on the boards that he should have his administrative privileges stripped.

The justification Grinolds always gives for banning those guys is that he gets messages complaining about their negative attitudes and he doesn’t want to deal with it. Since the half brain crowd isn’t full of people unable to defend a position who cry to Kim all the time, none of the grandstanding former posdawgs get their just due.

There’s one guy in particular that has no business still being on that site that they never do anything about. At least 9 out of every 10 of his posts are posts of the “you’re an idiot” variety with no other explanations whatsoever. He uses multiple screen names too, but since he’s always attacking the critical people, he’s never been banned, or even suspended.

by discovolante on Apr 13, 2009 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Nonsense?
Chris is such an antagonist on the boards that he should have his administrative privileges stripped.

Chris has taken a lot of crap over the years and some of the things people wrote about him in a personal nature over the course of time have taken a bit of a toll. It has been really ugly at times. He happens to be one of the owners so if you don’t like him or his product there are other choices out there.

As far as the half brain crowd goes they are simply profane. I have been to their website and understand where they are coming from but the third grade mentality and crudeness really turns me off. I think it destroys the message they are trying to deliver. I personally like Race and he has contributed here and respected what we are doing. I just think they went way overboard.

Once again it isn’t my site. It doesn’t fit my taste but I respect them for their opinions. I just happen tot hink emmert is great and always have even though he allowed the hiring of Willingham. The Ty hire was 95% Turner annd Turners hire was 75% Arkans and 22% kissing butt with the NCAA.

I will tell you IMHO that the hiring of Woodward followed by the hiring of Sark has really erased most of their prior arguments. I think they are both doing an exceptional job. Hopefully it will deliver wins sooner than later on the field.

There’s one guy in particular that has no business still being on that site that they never do anything about. At least 9 out of every 10 of his posts are posts of the "you’re an idiot" variety with no other explanations whatsoever.

There is more actually than one. I talk to Kim quite a bit and I have given him my two cents on the boards. there are probably another 20 posters over there I would prune. However it can quite expensive and it isn’t like these guys are getting rich doing this.

As far as negativity goes anyone can do that. It doesn’t take a lot of creativity. Frankly I don’t need to see it every single day and in every single post.

I wanted Willingham fired….he was fired…so lets move on.

I wanted a great head coach to replace him….I think Sark is going to be that guy. None of us can read the future but I really like what I am seeing and hearing.

This site was built for the sole reason of having a positive place to discuss Husky Athletics. We really got that going and when I say positive I don’t unbridled phony enthusiasm. I have no problem calling a shovel a shovel. (Trying to be politically correct here).

by John Berkowitz on Apr 13, 2009 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Then why do they only ban the critical people? They’re hardly the worst offenders.

I’m not going to make excuses for the guys over there as long as that ridiculous double standard continues. It’s fine to be like RD without the crazy, they just shouldn’t be a bunch of phonies and act like that’s not what they’re becoming.

I’m kind of like the opposite of you though. I don’t mind guys like the one I addressed in my earlier post. I don’t want anybody banned, other than spammers. I just greatly resent their attitudes about banning over there. I loved it when DM was like the last outpost of freedom on the network and all the insanity that entailed.

by discovolante on Apr 13, 2009 4:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I haven’t noticed that to tell you the truth and I am there every single day. One thing is I have become pretty selective in what I read.

One thing you can do is send an email to Kim or call him with your concerns.

I do know they went years and years without banning a single person other than Ruth.

Thanks for this site John.

I agree that Dawgman has gotten wild at times, however it does seem to have quieted down a bit. I don’t appreciate all the side fights that go on that are usually nothing more than individuals trying to force their opinion on everyone else.

I read here quite a bit, but get lazy and fail to log in and comment on most visits.

Happy Easter everyone.

Amen...

…Just want to say amen to all the previous posts. I read DM.c because it was the main one for years. I stumbled onto this site back in the fall and have been an avid reader since. I truly appreciate the positive and/or constructive approach here, especially the ability to post an opinion and not have your head handed to you for thinking different than someone else. I like that when there is a different opinion the poster usually does a good job of explaining why they think differently.
I enjoy my time here! Thanks. It’s funny how you get a sense of community and feel like you get to know people through their posts. I especially like John’s insights….Crazi, Lear and others, thanks for the knowledge you bring to the table too. Having this blog has made the Huskies a lot more fun to follow.

by Dawgs71 on Apr 12, 2009 4:48 PM PDT reply actions

One important thing is...

…to try and accept everyone who comes in. If a person feels like they’re excluded from things, they won’t stay long. There are a lot of different opinions out there and it’s a good thing to have that kind of dialogue. Having said that I have very little tolerance for people who just want to come in and create havoc.

Add my two sense

..to this conversation. I enjoy the informative nature, without the name calling some of the other places get. I always think if one needs to resort to name calling to make a point, there is probably not much of a point to be made.
Others have noted the fact that most places to read about the Dawgs have become quieter. Once Ty was removed, there was a lot less to gripe about, and so far any way, Emmert and Woodward look a lot smarter than they did a few months ago with their hiring. Even the Half Brains are struggling for relevance!
I am really enjoying the upbeat nature of current Husky football. It has been a long time. I do not look for a miracle, but just the way they conduct business has me in a positive frame of mind. Thanks once again John.

Who is holding for Folk on PATs and FGs? I assume the long snapper is still Morovick, but is Fouch doing the holding like last year or is there someone else? Also since the punter will not arrive until fall at the earliest, who is punting so the STs can get some work in this spring, one of the walk ons like Rutkowski or Folk?

Kicking is a non issue

that’s my hope anyway. Hope didn’t get me very far last year, but Folk has been hurt for 2 years. So he trys some practice kicks, and then we observe him during a jail break. The jail breaks won’t stop, but hopefully the line will block better and he will get used to 11 crazy guys coming at him while he kicks. He looked good Saturday.

Now you can worry about the kickoffs. Someone besides Folk kicked on to the 20 with the wind. I think that’s the one Polk ran back.

by dawgfan22 on Apr 13, 2009 3:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Your wish is my command...

Mike Price dies and goes to heaven. God meets him, embraces him warmly and says “Mike you’ve been a loyal and faithful servant and I’m going to show you the new digs I’ve provided for you. I think your going to be very pleased Mike.” God leads Mike along a road to a comfortable rambler painted Crimson and Gray. The two of them are standing there looking at the house, and God glances over at Mike to see a disappointed look on Mike’s face. “What’s wrong Mike, don’t you like it?” God asks. “Well God, I don’t want to sound unappreciative but why is it that Don James’ house is so much bigger than mine?” Both of them simultaneously raise their gaze up to view a gigantic Purple and Gold palace which is towering over Mike’s rambler. The Palace is so huge and sparklingly beautiful, with it’s Purple and Gold colors, that it makes Mike’s place tiny in comparison. God looks at Mike as if he’s a bit annoyed and says “Mike that’s not Don James house, that’s mine!”
