All Time Husky Football Team - Safety

At cornerback you guys went with Dana Hall, Nesby Glasgow, Walter Bailey, Charles Mincy, Ray Horton, and JC Pearson.

I think they are all pretty good picks but I voted for Cal Jones, Nesby Glasgow, Ray Horton, Mark Lee. If I had to add to more I would go with Dana Hall, and Charles Mincy.

I remember that when they recruited Mincy his JC coach said water cover 3/4 of the earth. Charles Mincy covers the rest.

Who are the Best Safeties in Washington Football History?

Cornerback was hard wasn't it? Safety isn't either with names from the past like Tommie Smith, Tim Peoples, Jim Rodgers, Chris O'Connor, and Sahne Pahukoa just to name a few.

Vote for your four favorite players and the polls will be open 24 hours before we move on to the next selection.

All-time Safeties

I think you need to add Billy Cahill to your list.

Wild Bill

I thought about it and I guess I could have but I didn’t.

You will see Billy pop up in another category where he has a better chance to win.

You can write Bill in if you like under other.

Another tough one. I went with Milloy, Parrish, Pahuakoa and Rogers.

Great picks Kirk

Tough to keep Peoples out of the top four isn’t it?

by John Berkowitz on Feb 5, 2009 12:24 PM PST reply actions

Not just Peoples, but Smith, Burkhalter (people forget he was our first early entry NFL guy), Newsome, Albritton…

This whole exercise just reminds me of how good we had it as Husky fans during the DJ years.

Eugene the hitting machine Burkhalter

He was a big time recruit that played well while he was at Washington. I always felt leaving early hurt him.

Akbar

was really the one guy I felt who left early that another year would have helped him immensely. His very short pro career I think reflected that. Still, he had a real tough growing up environment and really needed the $$.

Greg Caruthers Should be Mentioned

Caruthers was one of the hardest hitting safeties we’ve ever had and should be on the list. Now my vote would not got to him. I voted for Milloy, Parish, and Akbar (in that order). I would argue that Caruthers could hit just as hard as these guys.

All I saw was purple

Carothers was definitely a hard hitter, but not so great (relatively speaking) in coverage. I thought he might be the next great Husky S when he was a Fr., but he never developed as well as I’d hoped at the position.

what about laywer milloy

By the way i loved akbar and carother’s i thought they we’re underrated.

Carothers

Carothers ended up at LB for almost two years because he was too slow for safety.

All time safety

How is it that no one remembers the NCAA record holder for interceptions in a single season. Al Worley. 14 interceptions in a season and 18 for his career. No Husky comes close.

by Bremdawg on Feb 7, 2009 5:40 PM PST reply actions

Because Worley was listed with the CB’s, so that’s where I voted for him.
