Huskies blast Beavers with big second half
Washington's 79-60 win over the Beavers Thursday, coupled with UCLA's 74-67 loss at Arizona State, allowed the Huskies to move a half-game past the Bruins in the standings.
Not much of a wrap up from me today since I am headed out to the golf course and was unable to get the game down here in Florida.
Here is the wrap up from the Seattle Times.

Dentmon
Didnt watch the game but I have had the pleasure to watch a couple of them. Dentmon is the playing very well. Athletic guard who can create scoring opportunities and hit from downtown. Huge asset for this team.
Yes he was...
…he must have really worked his tail off in the offseason. He almost looks like a different person out there. Husky Football, are you listening!?
The Story of...
Okay I agree in part with thecasino in that Overton does turn the ball over quite a bit. In the first half the kid couldn’t handle the ball without turning it over. But college basketball is a story of two halves. The first half doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot. All you do in the first half is to withstand the storm so you can make second half adjustments, you try to stay out of foul trouble so you can go strong for the entire second half, and stay within a competetive point margin.
Overton’s turnovers were in the first half so to this fan- no harm no foul. Great teams finish strong in the second half. Overton created that spark off the bench again for us in the 2nd half- which was HUGE! Most of O’s turnover descrepancies occured in the first half, if they would’ve resulted in the 2nd half then I think we’d have a valid problem. Turnovers don’t neccessarily beat you. It depends on when they occur. If they occur in the first half and the point margin is close then we don’t have a problem. But if the turnovers occur in the 2nd half then we’ve got some sereious problems to deal with. Great teams know that the game is about a story of two halves and the 2nd half will determine the outcome of the game. Duke lost to Carolina because they didn’t play great 2nd half defense- game over! Arizona State manhandled Ucla because the Bruins didn’t take care of business in the 2nd half- game over! Oregon State looked to be the better team at halftime, but folded easily to Washington in the 2nd half due to 2nd half adjustments- game over! By the way Oregon State’s center (name unknown) had a terrible 2nd half, we thoroughly took him out of the game.
Turnovers are key to winning and losing, but what is more important about turnovers is when they occur. Fist half? Not so much. Second half? Critical and I for one believe Overton stepped up again. This game wasn’t about O, it was about Dentmon- what a gamer? If things play out Dentmon should be the Pac 10 player of the year. But please don’t minimize what Overton brings to the table my fellow Husky fans.
Go Dawgs! WOOF!!!

Overton
Who didn’t want to see Overton pack it towards the end of the game after he sliced the lane. Too bad it rimmed off. He has got some serious quicks.
I think a lot of fans have to realize the guy is only a sophomore. The media hypes up the super freshman and it seems like it is now expected a highly recruited guy come in and light things up from day one (that way in football as well). There are only a few Isaiah Thomas’ out there. Sometimes it takes a bit to adjust to being in college … having said that it’s not like Overton’s freshman year was really that bad!

It is nice to have someone who knows basketball contributing to the site. Most of us are football guys and it would be nice to build up more basketball followers. I am sure that will come during tournament time.
It's kind of discouraging
That there’s so little enthusiasm about basketball around here. I pop over to CougCenter and they put up a game thread that gets 191 comments. Maybe it’s that people aren’t near computers when they’re watching, which I hope is the case. If people just aren’t watching that sucks, because this is a great team with a chance at a Pac-10 title. Now is the time to get excited, don’t wait for the postseason.
I'm watching -
I hope Romar can lure Cousins away from Memphis. If he can this team will be a regular in the sweet 16+ for several years. Go Dawgs!
What about Crazi?
I contribute in the basketball realm just as cassino- what about my props? Kidding aside, but when the ballgame is ON, I am not sitting at a computer. My entire focus in on the game. I make my posts either before or after- not in progress.
Darnell Gant has improved. He’s not scoring in bunches, but I see him getting a little more comfortable in his shooting touch. For a big man he really can shadow on the perimeter. In the 2nd half he owned OSU center and virtually took him out of the game. Holiday, I’m a little concerned about. He seems to be slipping- I like Holiday but lately has not shown much improvement. Still a great defender, but man do I cringe everytime the kid takes a shot. I was like that with Gant earlier, but Darnell is improving.
Don’t forget about your wives tomorrow on Valentines Day. Get her some flowers and/or diamonds.

Kidding aside...
It was meant as a joke. Right now the UofW is Romarville.
Go Huskies! WOOF!!!

Talked a buddy of mine last night who coachs at a Div 1 school (he is the assistant coach of a assistant coach)
but he has a very good idea of college kids and recruiting and said that Cousins with Gaddy and IT would put UW on another level. He also mentioned that there was another big time decommit kid who was looking into UW…anybody hear anything?
Crazi- your posts are great. I must be honest, I dont read them all the way through because most are really long but you definitely give the energy that i like. Just stop begging for praise! (kidding).
This team
What I like about this team more than anything is the depth Romar has created with really effective recruiting the last 3-4 years. The depth on the squad is all pretty long and athletic and look to be effective defenders. Gant, Holiday and Turner are all impressive. Combine that with solid rebounding and inside presence with Brockman and MBA and great guard play and this team has the ability to make some noise in the tournament.
Best part from an outsiders perspective is it seems like a true team. Guys are putting their ego’s aside and filling whatever role is required. Thomas is a perfect example – he has a scorer’s mentality but isn’t always throwing up 20 shots a game.

I’m watching but at the Hec Ed or at home on TV. I usually don’t make comments until a day or two after the game because as johnb will attest to, it allows me to be saner and rational, and not have something on the record that I am embarrased about later .
I do agree with you that this team is special, and they have a good chemistry most of the time. We have seen games however where they didn’t play as a team. Cannot afford to do that in tourney time. I have already made reservations betting on the come for Portland and Phoenix, and already purchased my Pac 10 tourney tickets.
johnb, again thank you for this blog. I saw your admonition on Dawgman to the guys who were ripping jsmdogs fora posted conversation, well done and needed to be said. Kim and Dave need to come down with the hammer yesterday.
