The Weasel has been Euthanized
The Weasel which has been the symbol of Husky football since the Rick Neuheisel era has been officially euthanized. The block W will be the only logo until they learn how to actually draw an actually attractive Husky.
On another note I am going to Florida for a wedding tomorrow and won't be back till Sunday night. I have a few pieces automatically scheduled to go out and may have computer access now and then while I am down there but communication is going to be limited till Monday.
Remember to take the garbage out, feed the fish, and no parties!
Okay...i relent...parties are ok!

"Bow Down to Washington"
"Kick the tires and light the fires!"
You and Kate enjoy yourselves John
If I catch a legal steelhead I’m keeping it, that’s the only fish I’m trying to feed.
I partied last weekend at Ocean Shores…had to do something between clam tides
Party Invitation
Who: Big Dave
Where: www.uwdawgpound.com
When: Everyday
Why: Celebrating the end of the Weasel!
Come one, come all to the party of the century! The end of a horrible era is in hand. The Weasel has been slain. To celebrate this momentus occasion we will be having a party of words at the dawgpound! The party will be BYOB but boozing is strongly encouraged.
PS. Dont feed the fish…unless they are legal sized steelheads.
R. I. P. Weasel
This is a good thing. No, this is a great thing.
“All around the carpenter’s bench the monkey chased the weasel… Pop goes the weasel”
No, Nuke the weasel. Go Sark.
PS. Nuke the duck too!
Please do a professional job with our uniforms!
I like the darker shiny purple and the bright gold that matches the helmets but I’d like a more modern looking uniform.
Weasel disdain
… I can’t tell if the issue with the logo is the actual look or if it is related to the symbolism of the era. While I thought they could have aspired for something more eye-popping than the Weasel at the time, I thought the profile-based “sketch” logo was still an improvement over the previous smiling dog caricature. It was more sleek, had better lines, and implied a level of intensity that I thought better characterized our program.
So, is it the look that is disdained or the link to the era?
"Greed is Good."
So is Rudy.
Dunno but...
…I remember when it came out people were split on whether they liked it or not. I’m sure the fact the Nike/Oregon designed it, didn’t help either. I think the new Husky needs more wolf in him!
Gekko, I think you are referring to the wrong husky logo. The one before the weasel was the husky between the U and the W. It was a great logo, because the dawg was sitting very proudly- almost as if gettting his first kill.
The one you are referring to is from way back when and I agree it was not a great look at all, outdated but better then the weasell.
All I saw was purple
Early on
the weasel or ferret, if you will, won a Rose Bowl.
My objection to it is that resembles the swoosh a little too much and has been associated with too much losing.
No way to get rid of Nike as they just signed a 10 year contract. IIRC.
The demise has been reported in Condotta’s blog, he is usually very accurate, I believe it.
I wouldn’t have cared if we won a national championship with that logo, it’s time for the damn ugly thing to go. I refuse to buy any apparel with that logo on. I have plenty of W’s, and some old stuff with the dog that looked like a dog, but nothing with the ferret. For me it was all about the looks, long before I learned that Nike had designed the thing.
Eastern Washington, WSU's Wulff hit with sanctions

Yeah so the coach with the Cougs is banned from the first 3 days of practice,
“The violations included participation of non-qualifiers in football practice-related activities in four academic years ending in 2007; 13 to 15 coaches performing duties in the program at various times, while the NCAA limit is 11; and two student-athletes receiving housing and meals before classes began, although they were not eligible to receive that aid.”
Wonder what Jim Moore has to say
i think it looks a little too much like Neuheisel
It was a very skinny rendition of a Husky to say the least.
Huskies are actually pretty skinny.

As opposed to Malamutes who, on average, are 20-30 lbs heavier than an average Husky:

I’m sure most of you know the actual number, but it seems that most of our mascots have been malamutes over the years.
"Greed is Good."
So is Rudy.
Nike
Getting out of the weasell was a good move. But I think we need to go even further and get out of our deal with Nike altogether. I’m quite certain Ucla isn’t with goofy Nike. A season or two ago, I was watching Ucla men’s basketball warm up and they don’t have the same cookie cutter Nike warmups as everyone else has.
Scrap Nike! We don’t need them- I want nothing to do with Oregon’s pimp daddy.
Go Dawgs! WOOF!!!
