Recruiting round up
Washington reportedly added four more players to the 2009 class and all four are JC players who are capable of competing for starting jobs next season.
Tivao is a scary looking guy who is 5'11 340! UW is looking to plant him in the middle of the defensive line to plug up some space. From all reports it seems he is a war daddy type.
Davis is a big time get at the DE position. Look for him to flank Daniel Teo Nesheim in 2009. UW was able to pull him away from California.
Mafoe is a kid they can plug in on the offensive or defensive lines. UW was reportedly looking at him as a DT.
William Mahan fills a big hole at Punter.
Washington would love to add another cornerback to the class and the main target is David Batts. According to what we have heard Batts did not commit this weekend but is seriously considering UW. No word on Brandon Sermons but he has always been considered a strong UCLA lean.
UW is taking a calculated gamble with this group of JC's because while they are on track to graduate with the right type of credits to get into UW nothing is guaranteed until the admissions office receives their final transcripts.
One thing that will help this time around is that the coaching staff will be more proactive in getting these kids prepared to get here than the previous one was. Expect them to check into the academic progress a lot more closely. That wasn't happening under the previous staff.

We could still get Vehekite away from SC. The Trojans are loaded w/ depth at LB and Vehekite would be sitting on the bench for possibly 3 to 4 years, when he could suit up at Washington as early as next season- don’t rule anything out yet.
But I like Tim Tucker and this is OUR GUY!
All I saw was purple
Redshirts
John,
with all of the JC Defensive lineman type coming in do you see them redshirting some of last years freshmen so they can get stronger. I see Noble playing as he burnt his redshirt last year. I still don’t see the depth at the speed linebacker positions unless they move some safety types there.
thanks

I don’t think any of them will redshirt unless they get hurt.

spring
TE Dorson Boyce is already in school.
P Will Mahan should be fine.
All the others have some work to do but are on track according to the UW admissions office to make it in between spring and summer.

one more...
Don’t Forget (as undecided):
James Johnson, a WR out of Escondido, CA
and
Branden Warner, a JC DT out of Compton, CA.
Johnson
Johnson is probably 85% UW at this point.
I wouldn’t hold my breath on Branden Warner.
The guy they really need is Batts. They really want another CB who can challenge for a starting job.

JC front seven and JC defenders period...
…why are we recruiting so many defensive guys? More specifically front seven defenders? Do you think it’s just because there are more known guys available? Surely they must see more of a need there.
Were there more quality DL available? Ya
UW tried hard on OL but it just happen.
You have four guys on the DL who will redshirt that you can build with for the future and three guys that can come in and compete for starting jobs or at least be in the rotation. Once things get sorted out a couple of guys will end up over on the offensive line to balance things out.
Needs for offense will get addressed next year.

I like that Sark is only offering guys he thinks are capable of competing at the pac-10 level. Grabbing guys with lesser talent who fill a role is a recipe for disaster.
I’d be surprised if one or more current DT’s don’t get moved to the OL this spring. If Tivao qualifies, you have to think he’s likely in the 2-deeps right away, and yet another roadblock for Tyrone Duncan and Nick Wood. Both of those guys are possible switches to the OL, and both have the body type for G which is where we are a little low in numbers (though who knows who might get switched from T to G). Also, with Tokolahi and Robinson also committed, it’s possible Kelemete might be a candidate to switch sides.
Like you said though, it was as much about who was available as anything. Quality OL just weren’t there for Sarkisian, but some quality DL were. If he can manage to swing Myles Wade, that’d be huge – the guy is a beast and would likely be a starter for the Huskies.
And as crazi has pointed out, a sudden influx of defensive talent could go a long way towards bouncing the Huskies back to respectability right away when you consider the potential on offense.
All that said, I think it’s probable that Tivao is iffy to qualify, we don’t yet have a reliable confirmation that Davis has switched his commitment to the UW (when Scout.com or Rivals reports it, I’ll believe it), Wade is still probably going to Texas Tech, Warner is very likely going to UCLA, Mafoe may be iffy to qualify too and Williams is likely to stick with UCLA, leaving Tokolahi and Robinson as our most likely interior linemen from this class.
It’ll be fun to see what Sarkisian and co. can do with next year’s class with a full year to recruit – I think we’ll like the results.
So will he play opposite
Te’o-nesheim? I’m guessing they looked at Darrion Jones and noticed he isn’t even close to an adaquate DE. I don’t mean to knock the kid, and I’m not sure he was ever comfortable with the switch from LB but Darrion just didn’t give much of an effort at DE last year.
Teo, Davis, and Thoimpson
Those will be the guys that get the most playing time at DE next season.

Are you ready for some football??
Cardinals 28 Steelers 24
Superbowl time!!
Arghhhhh. I can’t believe that last coaching staff couldn’t even track academic progress. Can’t wait for the Spring game!!!
Good Job Guys!
The other day I was worried about not being able to seal the deal with some of the soft commits but it seems like the guys they brought and received commits from this weekend are going to be immediate additions to the team.
I’m excited to see Tivao and Ta’Amu in the trenches together good luck trying to get past that wall!
Another Clark to play on the other side of Teo’Nesheim is going to make the front four a solid group.
They’re building depth on the D’line which is very important to do. Especially after seeing how our D was getting gashed by the run (Jahvid Best and the ’07 UCLA and ASU games come to mind in fact I think Best just scored again!)
Its going to allow us to be more sound in our scheme and let the LB’s fly around because the O’line is not going to be able to get to the second level and the LB’s.
I think Chris Robinson is going to be a real sleeper. He looks to have the Sedric Ellis body type. Hopefully Holt can get him to Ellis’s level.
I expect there to be a couple of surpises on Wed (Vehikite? Boyd still????) and maybe someone we have not heard of.
Overall its looking like a good haul for the Dawgs. Especially if we can get Johnson, Eddie Williams and Batts.
Emeka Iweka?
with this new staff, it looks like we can at least show interest in Emeka. TW was pretty much done with JCs, so hopefully we can show him a little love and tell him to hit the books and graduate by Dec of 09 and be ready for spring ball 2010 with Heaps. Of course with Emeka’s past history with academics that might be a reach but at least I have confidence this staff will at least look at him.
It will be interesting in the next few years how Sark manages to rebalance the classes which got out of whack starting with Rick and exacerbated by TW. I think in 2 and 3 years we need to sign a few more JCs to help balance out the small classes of 2009/2010 and reduce the larger classes of 2007/2008. Of course, Sark could also use the suddenly senior route of TW.
I expect the attrition will occur this summer after spring ball, and guys get a clue of where they stand and that they are not in the plans. I have a few names in that regard but will just write them down for my private lookback in fall camp.
This next class...
…will be a big one. I think everything will work out fine. I expect a lot of Offensive lineman. I also remembered we actually signed 4 in last years class, not 3. We also had a transfer named Byrd or ? who looks like a pretty talented Olineman.
Sark raids Cal...
…first we get there offensive line coach and I think we turned a couple of their recruits if I’m not mistaken.
Eweka
JohnB, I believe he is recruitable in the 2010 class, which to me is Dec of 2009 is the earliest he could graduate and show up for winter quarter 2010. Are we not talking the same time frame meaning this coming Dec? next December sounds like you mean Dec 2010 but I am pretty sure he is recruitable in Dec 2009 for the 2010 class.
