Refs lost control of this one early

That big russian throws a vilant elbow down low, sending our player to the floor. The whistle is blown for a double foul. Then the russian player has the [explicits] to show up our player by standing over the top of him while he is on the floor. As the commentators indicated, the refs should’ve responded to the russian kid standing over him. They did nothing until our player lost his cool.

What should the refs done? They should’ve recognized the flamboyant, arrogant, showmanship crap of standing over our player when he was down. They should’ve recognized what the player’s motive was and moved in to remove him away from our player on the grournd trying to get up. Then once they remove the player, a technical should’ve been administered to the russian player for his intimidating act. Refs blew it and lost a lot of control of this one, where they had to redefine a lot of their calls “on the go”. Quality refs can spot crap like this, difuse it quickly, in order to keep control of the game. Not saying they were homers or anyting, I just thought they were a lousy crew working this game. That play sure got Washington out of sync quite a bit, yet it infused a TT rally.

But can’t blame the officials on this one, I thought we over dribbled the ball too much in our half court sets. That over kill dribbling got us out of sync offensively, where we made some ill-advised passes and free throw shooting killed us. TT played a very good game, they knew where we were going to attack and countered. Yet if it doesn’t get chippy in the first half who knows, maybe we stay in sync and make a good run, instead of getting drilled before the half with a 9-point deficit.

Glad to have a road game out of the way, we should be well prepared for the next road encounter.

TTU is hot

have to get to the ball and need to start getting Rebs and making their shots…IT!

by bigdave967 on Dec 3, 2009 4:57 PM PST reply actions

Not really

UW is shooting better. 60% and 50% from deep (2-4). TT is 57% and 40% from deep (4-10). Rebounds are tied.

Just looking straight at the stats this games a push right now. But yeah, force turnovers and get on the glass. With the way they’re guarding the perimeter with length, get the ball inside, too. Keep driving, they have to get calls at some point. The 6’6 guy on IT is long, but IT can, and has, blown past him. You’re not gonna shoot over him, though.

MAN

The refs are making me so mad and there is nothing the huskies can do about it.

by AllEyezOnMe on Dec 3, 2009 4:59 PM PST reply actions

The refs are not helping to be sure

I feel like Texas Tech is doing a good job against us regardless. They’re hitting their open shots and we’re losing shooters in transition and the half court.

We might need to deal with the fact that barreling down the lane into three guys is not going to draw too many foul calls and look for different ways to score.

We can come back in this, though, as long as TT keeps relying on the jump shot…they might stop falling.

The officiating really takes away from the college game.

It seems like the they feel they need to control the game or something. A no call here and there doesn’t mean you’re not doing your job.

Backboard

Anyone else notice that the lights around the basket were hella slow?

by AllEyezOnMe on Dec 3, 2009 6:15 PM PST reply actions

I did

I noticed everytime we were at the free throw line or in our half court set, some sort of spot light was being beemed down and reflected off the floor, then it would zip away. What the hell is that? Is that allowd per NCAA rules for the home arena to use lights like that on the floor?

Anybody else notice the lights on the floor or am I just off my meds?

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 3, 2009 11:52 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't see those

He was talking about the red lights, though. The way I head it explained is it goes clock, light, horn. So, the light would be a little bit slower.

by Brian Floyd on Dec 4, 2009 12:14 AM PST up reply actions

Well...we had our chances at least.

1) We got completely jobbed by the officials.
2) We missed way too many free throws.
3) Texas Tech is a pretty good team that will likely be ranked down the line.

I hope you die. I hope we BOTH die.

by BRKLN M'S on Dec 3, 2009 6:34 PM PST reply actions

That was the most poorly officiated game I've ever seen

And I’m not necessarily even talking about blown calls (there were plenty – both ways). Nobody wants to see a game with nearly 60 fouls. Let them play.

by thecassino on Dec 3, 2009 6:40 PM PST reply actions

what was the differential?

61 fouls is a disgrace. How can you even get into the flow of a game? It seemed like they would let them play then tighten it up too. No consistency at all

by Brian Floyd on Dec 3, 2009 6:49 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

We had 4 more personal fouls called on us

But where I really felt we got jobbed was with the technicals. Every single one went against us.

The first on Breshers should have been a double.
The second on a TT player who pushed Gaddy wasn’t called.
The third, which was a double, should have been solely on a TT player, not Thomas.

Thats the biggest difference. They got 4 free throws, when the Huskies should have been the team shooting them. An 8 free throw swing would have given UW the game in regulation.

by thecassino on Dec 3, 2009 6:54 PM PST up reply actions

i missed the early ones

But the third should be on tt. He shoved after they bumped into each other.

Also, gotta make those free throws. Seemed like both teams couldn’t. Turner had a chance to win it. Gotta bury those ones

by Brian Floyd on Dec 3, 2009 7:03 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Life on the road

Games like this don’t matter as far as the outcome….just a little preperation for the tournament in March when things even up. Nobody come through unscathed…eventually officiating gets you like today.

by John Berkowitz on Dec 3, 2009 11:52 PM PST up reply actions

The refs lost it early

And when an officiating crew loses it early, then they have to redefine their calls “on the run”. When did they lose it? They lost it when it got chippy when the russian was standing over our guy who was trying to get up. The officials should’ve spotted the intimidating act, moved in and removed him away from the action. Then he (the russian) should’ve been awarded a technical foul for the act of showmanship. Standing over a player like that is a HUGE no-no in college basketball, yet these clowns allowed it. They (refs) had to huddle, figure out what they were calling, explain int to Bob’s kid, and try to issue an explanation to Romar. But nobody was buying it, because it was a bad situation and the ref’s call on that play made it worse, therefore the refs found themselves all night trying to redefine their calls. It’s called the snowball effect, because no matter what, it’s just going to keep getting bigger.

Free throws (amongst the awful refereeing)

Cost us again.

I didn’t see the whole game but looking at the 2nd half I think we missed Brockman a lot. We need a big man getting these boards consistently.

ME! BANE!

by SSreporters on Dec 3, 2009 8:29 PM PST reply actions

Don't forget all the turnovers.

I really can’t decide if it was the 19 turnovers or all the missed free throws that contributed the most to this loss, but I’m leaning towards the turnovers. It’s a long season though, if we step it up against Georgetown and Texas A&M this one won’t hurt as bad.

by tintin on Dec 4, 2009 12:05 AM PST up reply actions

Tunovers

I thought we were trying to dribble the air out of the basketball too much in our half court sets and that resulted in some lazy and errant passes. I’d like to see us do a lot more passing the basketball when we’re in our half court sets, instead we seem to dribble around until we find ourselves in trouble.

I also saw Overton pick up his dribble too early at times. What the hell were we doing? Picking up our dribble too early by some and then by other dribbling the air out of the ball? We need to work on our half court offense a little more- we were not in very good sync offensively in the half court at times, which would explain “turnovers”.

All I saw was purple

Rough night, free throws and field goals

Too many missed free throws for the Huskies and too many field goals for the Beavs (I don’t sense much duck support on this site).

Throw in the refs at TT and it makes for one lousy night.

Awful night of sports wasn't it?

Washington loses in OT at Lubbuck, where the refs lost control of the game. Meanwhile Oregon is off and running to Pasadena. That was one night of sports I could’ve just went to bed and not stayed up to see misery unravel.
