Recruiting News

So personally for me one huge reason I love college sports as opposed to professional is the recruiting.  The year round commitment that the coaches have to make to getting the best players for their systems and watching the mind of a young man/woman work through the  process at their own pace.  I would love to have a running thread that people can post on about recruits that have committed, potentially could commit, or are on the radar of the UW staff.  Personal observations of recruits are greatly appreciated.

I will start the first post with some big news coming from Realdawg stating that Victor Burnett will be at UW for the Spring semester.  That means that three current recruits (Burnett, Callier, and Cooper) will not count againist this years class numbers meaning of the 23 current recruits, only 20 are a hit on this years 25 limit.

When its all said and done I think that we are in a good position to make a late push on a couple of really good players that are still uncommitted.

MLB prospect Hayes Pullard would be a monster get due to Holts comments that true freshmen LB's will have to play next year and if we get him he would probably be canidate #1 along with Burnett because of early enrollment.  Though do not look past VJ Fehoko and Soma Vainku who are both monster MLB prospects who would fill the void as well.  I think that we take the first one who commits and nicely back away from the other two since we have a lot of LB's in this class and more need at OL and DL.

CB prospects Troy Hill and Shaquille Richardson are both players of need due to our skill level at the CB position. Troy will choose between Arizona, Oregon, and UW while Richardson will choose between OrSt, ASU, and UW.  Look for the coaches to get, hopefully, at least one of these guys.

At the OL position we are making a huge push for Micah Hatchie from Hawaii.  He is friends, apparently, with UW committ Taz Stevenson and if we could land him I think it would be tough to argue that UW doesn't bring in a top 5 OL class which is huge considering Sark didnt bring any in last year with the short time frame he had to work with.

Def Line is becoming an alarming position due to the lack of committed players so far.  We have our hands in the cookie jar with a couple of big time players at DT (Lagafuaina, Tuala, Fuimaono) but not so much at DE with Hudson committed we dont really have any other offers out there unless you consider Shirley (who is a GREAT player in his own right) but he has been listed as an OLB or DE, so put him in whatever category you like.  I think we take at least one more DT committ to go with Potoae.

The one thing that you have to love about this class to date is the athletism that Sark & Co are recruiting.  Guys that can play multiple positions.  This is a strong class but look for it to end with a bang!

Either way below is the link to the committed players we have already and look for the class to fill out once the season is over next week and the coaches go crazy on the recruiting trail.

Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on the class and I cant wait to start talking about 2011!!! (Kasen Williams....you out there?)

Brent Williams

Is a kid who’s gonna get a look at DE. He’s in that Demarcus Ware/ Aaron Curry mold of the speed rushing OLB. He’s been obliterating the best OT’s in the west this year at camps and if he beefs up could become something special. Also look for) Melvin Davis to make a move to DE if we become to clogged at RB.

I think CB isn’t quite as pressing a need as even I thought 2 weeks ago. We’re young there, and with Boyles set to stay put and guys like Gobern who look to have some skills I think maturity will do as much as recruiting CB’s this class. Although Hill would be a good get (looks like a UO lean though). It also looks like Callier could get a look at CB as well, we’re pretty loaded with youth at TB with two TB’s besides him set to come in.

Hatchie would be huge (literally), he’s a guy along with Kolher who could contibute right away with depth. At 23 commits UW is ranked top 20 by almost all services. If Sark can pull this class in as it stands, it could be one of the best on paper in the last 20 years (without a real solid anchor like Jake Locker).

CB

Its not looking good for Hill, Wright or Richardson right now but 17-18 year old kids have a habit of making decisions now and changing their minds later which I hope doesnt happen to UW with their recruits though you havent heard of any of them wavering as of yet so lets hope it stays that way.

Brent Williams has been nothing short of a monster on the stat book but he lacks the ideal height to play DE at the college level. 6’2 is a little short though still tall enough to get the job done. I usually like to see DE’s at a legit 6’3-6’6 but that’s ideal and sometimes you have to toss out the numbers and let a kid just play his natural position which seems to be the case with Williams. FIngers crossed though!

by bigdave967 on Dec 3, 2009 12:51 PM PST up reply actions

He lacks ieal height right now...

but he is only 17-18 years old. He coudl fill out in to a nice 6’3"-6’4" 245lb by his Sophomore year if he readshirts. And it looks like with all the great LB talent coming in (fingers crossed for Pullard as well) and Sione Potoae we could have a formidible 3-4 line up on our hands. That being said I don’t know about 3-4 in the college game, nor do I think Holt would make the switch.

Absolutely

Never underestimate a teenagers body. He could very well blow up to be 6’4 and that would be AWESOME but if we assume he stays at 6’2 I think a great size for him would be about 225-230 (solid) and keep his speed pass rushing abilities.

3-4 in college is different…not to many teams can run it and I dont think Holt will make the switch though we will see it a lot this week with Cal since that is the def. they run. The problem is you have to have Def Ends that are 6’4-6’6 and run about 260-280 and can run…hard to get enough guys like that to run it properly. Either way I think we land one of the three MLB prospects left (Fekoho, Pullard, or Soma Vainuku).

by bigdave967 on Dec 3, 2009 1:42 PM PST up reply actions

Looking at film of Williams, he’s very quick off the edge but also a skinny kid. Not sure how well he’d hold up at the point of attack as a DE vs. the run – he may be better suited as a pass-rushing OLB, or a passing-down DE specialist.

by kirkd on Dec 3, 2009 4:28 PM PST up reply actions

Do ya think...

…we pick up another defensive tackle? Good ones can be hard to find but this year there seems to be quite a few of them.

by doubledeucedawg on Dec 3, 2009 11:06 AM PST reply actions

Depends

We have our hands in a couple of pretty big boys out of Cali and Hawaii. Only a matter of getting them to commit while there is still room though I can see Sark taking 30 kids this class with Callier, Cooper, and Burnett coming in for the Spring.

by bigdave967 on Dec 3, 2009 12:47 PM PST up reply actions

I’d be surprised if the staff isn’t prioritizing getting at least 1 more H.S. DL for this class. Between a number of Hawai’ian kids, I think we’ll be able to get another DT in the class, and if Tonga commits, he might be able to transfer in time to count against last year’s class.

by kirkd on Dec 3, 2009 4:27 PM PST up reply actions

Speaking of DTs I think it would be nice if we could get DT Tonga even it is for only one year.

by lorenzothedog on Dec 3, 2009 1:07 PM PST reply actions

Great Name!

Tonga, perfect name for a big defensive tackle. Reminds me of Mongo from “Blazing Saddles”.

Except we're talking about a defensive tackle here...

Mongo was an offensive one. ;)

Since we're talking about recruiting...

According to Biggins we are looking REAL good for Fehoko, Shirley and Smith. Apparently Smith’s coach is telling him to take other visits (hater) but I’m crossing my fingers he’ll become a Dawg. Fehoko is arriving in Seattle tonight, he says he “feels UW in his heart”… if that isn’t a good sign I don’t know what is. The last thing, Biggins said he likes UW’s chances with Shirley and that he still talks about the visit for the SC game.

I’m pumped!

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 3, 2009 3:13 PM PST reply actions

Great News!

Shirley, Fehoko, Smith and Hatchie would be HUGE for the Dawgs. Add a DT and BAMMM! We are set! Then it becomes keeping the guys you have happy though I havent heard anything negative from any of the players so that is VERY encouraging.

by bigdave967 on Dec 3, 2009 4:37 PM PST up reply actions

We have an excellent shot at Quezada too

He is a VERY promising safety. Trick is getting him to put the ball down and wanna hit people for his college career. UW is the only school recruiting him for defense

It’ll be interesting to see how Sark and Co work the final positions for this class. I’ll be willing to bet that Timu and maybe another guy greyshirt and make room for another DB, possibly 2 LB’s if we get both Fehoko and Shirley, 1 or 2 DT’s and 1 or 2 OL. Glad it’s not my job to shuffle the deck!

Can’t wait to see how this class finishes out, the future is looking bright for our Dawgs

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 4, 2009 8:59 AM PST up reply actions

Hatchie is a Dawg!

So we got Smith, Hatchie and Lagafuaina in a span of 2 days! All we need now is Fehoko and Shirley and this class is donesky!

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 7, 2009 10:27 PM PST up reply actions

Great news if true, and it appears legit (Rivals.com is reporting it and Fetters seems to think it’s true as well, though he hasn’t yet talked with Hatchie).

A really nice haul of OL in this class, and absolutely necessary given both the mediocre nature of our current OL and the fact Sark didn’t land any last year.

Those would be fantastic additions. Only other thing we could wish for is a really good CB. We’ll probably look to sign 1 more DT too.

by kirkd on Dec 8, 2009 7:06 PM PST up reply actions

The news on Shirley is very encouraging. He’d be a great pick-up. And while it sounds like Smith might not commit this week as it seemed likely, he still sounds very likely to commit soon to the Huskies.

Get Shirley, Smith, Hatchie and another DT and I’d very happy with how Sark closes out this class.

whats the deal

With gilliand and christie, did we turn them away?

by justicebeau on Dec 3, 2009 8:10 PM PST reply actions

I started thinking about that too

I think it goes back to the old thinking that if you are not a heavily recruited kid and you sit on an offer…it may not be there later. Unless they are keeping it close to the vest (which is very unlikely since both were public with their desire to commit). Seems like Sark has given them the old, wait just a minute before you say yes talk. We are in the mix for a lot of VERY good players still and its best for everyone if the kid is told the truth from the beginning. Still, with recruiting the way it is now, unless you are a top prospect, its tough for a kid to sit on an offer…thats why I like the early signing period so that kids can take an offer and secure it before its gone. Makes a coaches decision on who to offer a lot more important as well though I am sure that there are ppl who may not agree…

by bigdave967 on Dec 4, 2009 6:04 AM PST up reply actions

I think they are plan-B guys, and Sark is holding off on accepting a commitment from them until he’s sure that better options are no longer available.

by kirkd on Dec 4, 2009 11:13 AM PST up reply actions

That’s probably where Ty failed. He offered plan B guys and kept them too often. Recruiting is a cut throat business and every coach knows it. You have to ensure you get the best possible recruits at your disposal. I’d love to get Michael Christe, but with only two suitors on his list what does that tell you? Is he USC-good or is he merely dreaming?

We need to go after CB, safeties, DT, OL, DE, and LB, that should be the priority from here on out. And I agree with bigdave, Sark and Holt are going to get some more big recruits before it’s all said and done this year. These guys are too good at what they do. They are SoCal guys and not the goods when they see them.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 4, 2009 2:36 PM PST up reply actions

Yep. Looking at offers, I think Hatchie is a higher priority than Criste. And we’re looking good for multiple LB’s (Pullard, Fehoko) that appear to be bigger gets than Gilliland. If those fall through, then you take commitments from Criste and Gilliland.

by kirkd on Dec 4, 2009 3:07 PM PST up reply actions

Do they fall to Idaho while we hold out?

It’s a double edge sword. Our coaches have got to know something about guys like Hatchie, Pullard, and Fehoko. Because “if” we get a commitment from a plan B kid and falls to the likes of Idaho and we don’t get the services of the guys we most definitely want then we’re screwed. Sark and Holt sees and understands the double edge sword involving recruiting 4 & 5 star guys as aposed to plan B guys.

So “if” Sark informed plan B guys to wait and see, then we may have something cooking on the other burner. Does Sark and Holt gamble away a plan B guy that has tremendous potential? I think he does if something else is looking good.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 4, 2009 4:18 PM PST up reply actions

Most kids will opt to take an offer from UW over an offer from Idaho. If they commit to Idaho, and then just before signing day Sark gives them a scholarship offer, it’s likely they’ll take it – most kids want to play at the highest level of competition and will jump at a chance to go to the Pac-10 over the WAC, and the UW and Seattle over Idaho and Moscow.

Now, if Sark offers them on the condition they greyshirt, that might be different.

by kirkd on Dec 4, 2009 5:00 PM PST up reply actions

Christe?

So why on earth does Michael Christe only have two schools listed (USC, Washington)? To me that doesn’t make much sense for a kid to limit himself to two schools, where one has offered and the other hasn’t.

Is there something about this dude we don’t know about? Does USC think they can get him down the road or is he grey shirt material? I understand the idea of Sark informing him to wait and see, but as a kid, I think I’d have my options open to more then just two schools.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 4, 2009 9:50 PM PST up reply actions

Criste is very hard to get a hold of. I would take the info Scout.com has on him with a grain of salt, because they appear to have no interviews with him or his coaches, so who knows which schools he’s interested in besides the UW and which schools are interested in him.

Kevin Smith

Sounds like he might be close to committing. He looks like a guy who could play either WR or S/CB. I think one of these guys may end up playing CB. With all the tall wide receivers out there we could use some taller CBs.

Speaking of tall CBs I wonder how Anthony Boyles is coming along at the CB position.

The ironic thing is...

But like you said, he is a soft commit. Hopefully we can finish strong and get the guys we need. Really looking forward to hearing from VJ Fehoko.

by bigdave967 on Dec 6, 2009 7:21 PM PST up reply actions

I doubt he's a soft commit

regardless of what DM says. I just read a story on Rivals where he says that he lived in Tacoma and always knew he was gonna be a Dawg. Nothing soft about that. Polynesian players are very respectful so if they already set up visits they’ll usually still go even though they are commited to another school. If I remember correctly Semisi Tokolahi visited a few schools last year when he was committed to us… everybody was like “whoa is this guy a soft verbal, what, ahhhh” when really he is just a nice kid and went as a courtesy.

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 8, 2009 3:33 PM PST up reply actions

His family really wants him at the UW. I think he’ll end up here, but when USC and other big-time programs came after him hard, he reconsidered his early commitment and stated he wanted to take some other visits to be sure of his decision.

by kirkd on Dec 8, 2009 7:07 PM PST up reply actions

Are you talking about Potoae? I was talking about Lagafuaina… Lawrence said that he used to live in Tacoma and has always followed the Dawgs

Regardless, Sione will probably end up a Dawg. I’m more sure of Lagafuaina though

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 8, 2009 11:21 PM PST up reply actions

Ah – figured since you mentioned Tacoma you were talking about Potoae. Yeah, Lagafuaina sounds pretty solid – the Hawai’i visit sounds more like a courtesy than a genuine interest in going there.

by kirkd on Dec 9, 2009 4:40 PM PST up reply actions

If we get Shirley do we still offer Fehoko? That would give us 7 LBs. Positions are filling up fast. Does anyone know what our remaining top priorities are and /or who? To me it appears that we need some more DL and CB. Also if Jake goes we are really short at QB – any thoughts about a QB?

by lorenzothedog on Dec 7, 2009 10:04 AM PST reply actions

I really doubt Sark offers another QB, unless it’s a JC kid he can count against last year’s class. And that seems unlikely – most decent JC QB’s are hot targets that are already committed at this point in the process. Unless disaster strikes, we’ll be fine – we’ll have Fouch, Price & Montana on scholarship and Taylor Bean as a walk-on with experience. More than likely Fouch & Price will be the only guys that see the field next year while Montana redshirts.

I’m betting Shirley is a higher priority than Fehoko, but we have a better shot at Fehoko and he may be closer to making a decision.

by kirkd on Dec 7, 2009 11:50 AM PST up reply actions

I wasn’t too impressed with Fehoko’s film. He looks stiff and a bit slow to me. Shirley, however, looks outstanding.

by Snostrebla on Dec 7, 2009 8:53 PM PST up reply actions

A few people have expressed similar reservations about Fehoko. I guess we’ll see – if he ends up signing here, I guess that means the staff sees something of value in him. But I would agree that Shirley is a higher priority than Fehoko.

by kirkd on Dec 7, 2009 11:48 PM PST up reply actions

At this point

DL and CB.

Sark & Co. at this point are taking the best athletes they can get their hands on. If Pullard, Shirley, and Fehoko wanted to commit, you better believe he will make it happen with Grey shirting, early enrollment, and letting guys go (I’m sure we could all think of a couple but we will keep that to ourselves). 7 LB commited doesnt mean we have 7 LB’s. Waters and possibly Young will move to Safety (though Chris Young seems to be a tough kid to get in academically) and Brent Williams will probably move to DE as well as Shirley. DT’s are hard to come by so we will see who commits but dont be surprised to see at least one more taken. Seems that we are good on O-Line and RB, as well as WR so mainly at this point we are looking at Def but like I said, most of these guys could play any number of positions so look for Sark to get the best athletes in town then sort it out in their freshmen summer/spring.

by bigdave967 on Dec 7, 2009 11:50 AM PST up reply actions

Agree on all your points Dave. What I like about this class is how interchangeable all of the guys are as athletes. Pretty much all of them can play both sides of the ball, which speaks volumes for how much better the team speed and athleticism is going to improve under Sark.

I think we have the lead for Fehoko and could possibly get a commitment out of Shirley. Along with what you said, Sark absolutely lets these guys be Dawgs if they both wanna commit! Shirley well probably be a DE and Fehoko will probably be on the outside. Both of these guys are nasty defenders, i’m crossing my fingers they commit!

Thats the beauty of multiple position players!

My guess

Kearse – WR
Lowe – WR
Smith – Safety (by way of WR)
Campbell – CB

I forgot Timu and Taz

both will stick on defense, Taz looks like he could grow into a LB

Taz is a great athlete

I can’t wait to see him on the field as a Dawg, I think he’s gonna make some good plays during his time in purple and gold

I forgot to mention the RB's

We also seem to have extra RB’s, so I won’t be surprised to see one of them end up as a DB.

B Money – thanks for starting the UW Dawg Pound Fantasy League, obvioulsy I enjoyed it quite a bit!!

Ha!

good run this year…I had the same problem the Dawgs usually have (#1 in strength of schedule) so I fizzled out before the conference season started. Good job taking it down. I’m coming for your crown next year!

Just read Biggin's update on Fehoko

Sounds pretty good for us. I thought it was funny that his brothers are convincing him to go on the other trips, cuz it sounds like he doesn’t really wanna go see Tech and Utah all that bad. Here’s a quote from VJ about the Dawgs.. “Washington definitely set the bar high though. I’m not ready to name a leader but it will take a lot for someone to beat out what I saw at Washington”

Good stuff

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 9, 2009 3:09 PM PST reply actions

Fehoko

Sounds like if the coaches turn up the heat he could commit and become a DAWG! He’s tripping to Utah which is a nice area probably our greatest competition at this point. Is the kid Mormon?

Not sure

But I am sure of this… Seattle > Salt Lake > Lubbock!!! I do agree Utah could be stiff competition since they are in need of a MLB and his cousin is the Def Coordinator, but I think VJ becomes a Dawg. If I’m not mistaken I remember way earlier this year reading that he followed the Dawgs growing up. Hope he commits.

Luginbill was gushing about him

on the Under-Armor All-American selection show that I caught part of yesterday. I think Pullard is better overall, but VJ is no slouch.

If he (Fehoko) waits to long will we have a spot for him? We already have 25 commits(not including Lagafuaina) and 5 of these commits are LBs. We are in on some other LBs DTs CBs and OL.

by lorenzothedog on Dec 9, 2009 5:32 PM PST reply actions

Good point...

…I think the offers are starting to tighten up a bit. How many more spots could there be? I think a couple could be greyshirts along with the three projected recruits who will enroll early. Finish strong DAWGS!!

by dawgfan22 on Dec 9, 2009 9:27 PM PST up reply actions

There will always be a spot for Fehoko

There are certain guys (Wright, Pullard, Fehoko, Shirley, to name a few) that no matter if they took until Feb 2nd, there would be a spot for them….they are the good. This is why the guys that are maybe a 3rd-4th option at a position are told to commit early to guarntee a spot, but not the big dawg recruits.

You Have Got to Look at This

http://washington.rivals.com/

Lagafuaina is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hatchie is no small child himself but he looks anorexic! Probably (definitely) going to have him play the Ta’Amu Nose Tackle position…hope he can move his feet!

by bigdave967 on Dec 10, 2009 5:43 AM PST reply actions

Is that the Pic...

…on their front page? I was just going to post about that. What you have to consider though is that Hatchie is still listed at 285 pounds but a lot taller at 6’5". Lagafuaina is such a beast, he would make anyone look small! Great anchor for the middle of the defensive line!

Hatchie is in great shape entering the strength & conditioning program – he just needs to continue to get stronger and add good weight.

Lagafuaina is probably going to be asked to re-shape his body a bit.

He will need to cut down on all that baby fat. That will happen naturally though once he gets working with Ivan.

Off Season Program

The players are not “required” to start workouts until after New Years but if you want to be a champion you take a week or two off and then get after it! GO DAWGS!!

by doubledeucedawg on Dec 10, 2009 5:08 PM PST up reply actions

I think you start when the program is scheduled to start

Players have to decompress from a grinding season. Enjoy the holidays and get after it once the new year begins.

I am anticipating some big time recruits commiting rather soon. We’ve got a special group coming in right now, but it ain’t over fellas. I see some big time kids commiting soon. I want Pullard as the Dawg MLB and just knocking the snot out of folks! We need a few more defensive backs and another O linemen or D linemen wouldn’t hurt. Pullard and a DB or two is critical.

I Bark for Sark! WOOF!!!

by crazidawg on Dec 10, 2009 9:02 PM PST up reply actions

You take the time to work out the season in your muscles

still hit the gym but do very light weight/high reps and really work on flexibility and agility. Take some time to decompress but that doesnt mean doing nothing. Just modify the workout your already doing. Im sure Ivan will have something ready!

by bigdave967 on Dec 11, 2009 5:52 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah that's what...

…I was thinking because no serious weight trainer would take that much time off. I think the other part of it is running, agility and explosiveness drills and after Jan. 4th all of the stuff is “required”.

by dawgfan22 on Dec 11, 2009 9:09 AM PST up reply actions

Actually...

…there is a LOT of science behind taking an extended lay of once or twice a year depending on an individuals biofeedback. I won’t dive too deeply into it here but taking time (up to 6-weeks off with NO activity) can send your strength and cosmetic gains into overdrive – it’s called “sling shoting”. If your training is correct in the first place – this can be VERY benificial. The problem is most people don’t train correctly in the first place…

by Snostrebla on Dec 11, 2009 9:15 AM PST up reply actions

Extended Breaks

I have heard of 7-10 days for muscle recovery but never 6 weeks, thats a really long time. I have heard of 6 week training regimes but not rest. There is no right or wrong and if there was you wouldn’t get 1000000 hits on Google for workout regimes. Like you said, everybodies body is different which leads to different workouts. There is no exact science (if there is we dont know it yet) but I trust that Ivan has a good regime whatever that happens to be. I bet we see a huge difference in these kids come next summer.

by bigdave967 on Dec 11, 2009 10:42 AM PST up reply actions

Extended Breaks

Anaerobic olympic atheletes such as power lifters use this type of break to let their bodies turn their Type I muscle fibers back into Type II muscle fibers. This is part of their periodization scheme and allows them to “peak” their strength for competitions. The 7-10 day muscle recovery is just standard time alotment for a muscle to rebuild itself stronger after a workout = two very different things. And yes there is no one right way but there are TONS of wrong ways to workout – just go to your local gym and observe the majority who spend hours in the gym but never drastically change there bodies. Theres a lot of misinformation in the industry and unfortunatly most don’t know it.

by Snostrebla on Dec 11, 2009 12:19 PM PST up reply actions

These are football players...

…not competition weightlifters. There regimen is sport specific for football and doesn’t require competitive “timing” for lifting competitions.

Do you guys think we’ll be in limbo now until signing day? Some of the recruits like to wait until right before signing day to hold a press conference. It’s usually the higher ranked most coveted guys (most hyped) and it drives me crazy!

I think you will see most guys make a decision

at the Under Armour All Star game as well…

It is very annoying to me too but I would rather a kid take his time to make the right decision then rush it, though unfortunately most of them do it for the press (in my opinion).

Personally I was never concerned with him leaving. Scout really bothers me with their verbal, soft verbal b.s. Just because a kid wants to take a couple mini vacations doesn’t mean he’s not committed, he probably just wants to take trips to new places. Hell, I know if it were me I’d go on all 5 recruiting trips in the warmest places just so I could scope the local talent wearing skimpy clothing!!!

by ChazzReinhold on Dec 16, 2009 8:34 AM PST up reply actions

Eh, why let it bother you. It’s just their policy, and it makes sense. If a kid is “committed” but taking visits to other places, he’s a risk to de-commit. Doesn’t usually happen, but happens enough that I understand why they have the “soft verbal” designation.

Reality is, until these kids sign their LOI or scholarship agreements, they’re all risks to change their commitment.

by kirkd on Dec 16, 2009 11:47 AM PST up reply actions

I've often wondered how...

…the dialogue goes between recruits and their prospective coaches. I imagine a lot of these kids use someone as kind of a intermediary. Someone like their head coach or their parent/guardian. It’s gotta be pretty hard talking to these high powered coaches who know that this is a business and they get paid to get the kid committed to them.

Nope

My guess is we won’t hear much more until after the next visit, scheduled for early Jan.

One thing nice about not bowling is that our coaches have been able to hit the recruiting trail harder then the other guy. Usually that doesn’t work out too well (non bowlers), but we’ve got something other non bowlers don’t have along with bowlers don’t have. We have a top 8 recruiting class coming in and Jake Locker coming back. Remember Sark mentioned he sold a product before his company had a product? I still see some big names committing to UDub by signing day.
