USC Brushes Aside BC
The Pac 10 picked up its first win of the bowl season as Matt Barkley led USC to a victory over Boston College 24-13. The Trojans marched out to a 14-0 lead on the first two possesions of the game as Barkley hit FB Stanley Havilli for two early scores.
The win wasn't all that impressive but it was a victory none the less for the Trojans over a team that finished last in its division in the ACC. Damien Williams caught 12 passes for 189 yards in what should be his final game for the Trojans. BC kept it close most of the game and got as close as 14-13 but the Trojans pulled away after that.
Playing in a non-BCS bowl for the first time since 2001, the Trojans finished 9-4. That's their fewest victories since going 6-6 in 2001. Boston College lost its second straight bowl after winning eight in a row from 2000-07.

SC
got after it when it was required to preserve the win. They played like they cared even though I’m sure they were disappointed in their season.
Watch the game.....
…. w/ two USC Trojan alumns. Not only were they dissapointed in this season and the way the team played yesterday, they are also very worried about the next few seasons, at least.
Their biggest worry
should be the NCAA given all the smoke surrounding the program.
SC played a lot of young guys yesterday so I expect improvement from them…hopefully not enough to beat the Dawgs
Recruiting at USC
is what worried the Trojan alums the most. His thinking is that w/ our Huskies getting strong again, and also with the Ducks, Beavers & Tree-dudes looking so good, that it will be a long, long time, if ever in his lifetime (he is only about 30), when the Trogans can have a strong shot at a PAC-10 championship again.
Their is smoke but it will vanish
Joe McKnight did not play in the Emerald Bowl. That tells me that if the allegations are true then USC did not play any players who divulged into improper benefits. The other guys that didnt’ play? USC maintains it’s due to academics. Never the less they did not play.
I think the No.1 issue Pete Carroll needs to fix is the culture at USC. The Reggie Bush scandal opened up all this improper benefits stuff. Carroll has to fix this before it becomes a full-blown Miami deal or a full-blown Sooner deal.
He can do that by allowing fewer folks access to the program. I don’t beleive any of the allegations were known by the coaching staff or athletic office. LA is a huge city and Carroll can’t be everywhere. However, to curtail some of the stuff coming out of Troy, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carroll limit access to the program in the near future. His No.1 job in the offseason is to try to restore the winning culture and to remove all doubt stemming from allegations of improper benefits. Joe McKnight might’ve played his last game as a Trojan, but USC isn’t going anywhere while Carroll is in charge.
I predicted during the preseason that USC could potentially lose up to 4 gams this season. They have talent, but don’t have that overwhelming talent that they are accustomed to. They had to rebuild their front 4, lost their entire LB corps, and started a true freshman at QB. Not to mention but they lost two key coordinators as well. USC has rebuilt and have been able to maintain supremacy over the years, but to lose what they lost over last season’s offseason was too much to stay on top. But USC will rebound nicely.
With Sark and Holt at Washington now, USC is going to find it harder to stay on top forever. Ever wonder why USC was so dominant in Pac 10 football? Is it a mere coincidence that USC ran off a decade long of dominance at the same time Washington bottomed out? USC’s dominance was due to Washington, and Ucla not being very competitve. Watch how everything shapes out once Washington is back.
All I saw was purple
PSEUDO WIN EMERALD BOWL
BIG DOLLARS. I thought the game was decided when BC recovered a kickoff on the U$C 30 YARD LINE. Referees reversed it although the U$C player was clearly blocking the BC player when he kicked the ball. These games are clearly decided in the TV boardrooms where MEGA DOLLARS are in play. The only retort is not to watch them and I immediately switched to golf. It is ridiculous to watch a staged match. Remember ND and no bowling for Huskies.
The MVP you mention was recruited out of the UNIVERSITY of ARKANSAS??? Not High School!!! No limits for MEGA TEAMS. This BCS is totally rigged and no others need threaten.
As for the U of Skullduggery Cash it would be interesting to know how much Damien Williams is getting paid. Of course, Pete Carroll doesn’t know anything. Remember LA is too big.
What we do know is:
a? A HEISMAN candidate gets $100,000 per year, his parents a free house, and an agent…
b) An ALL AMERICAN wide receiver is entitled to a $4,000 per month apartment.
c) Running backs get the free use of a $50,000 SUV.
D) BASKETBALL All Americans are paid directly in cash from the coaches and agents starting in High School.
What a bloody sham. Form a semi pro league for these too big to fail SPORT FACTORIES and stop paying them under the table. Ethics? I doubt if they know the meaning. Add HYPOCRITES for the University Administration.
But brother watch out for FRUIT BASKETS and free CHEESEBURGERS. Those can get you multi year SANCTIONS.
And be sure to buy pints.......
only for yourself, NOT pitchers of beer that a recruit can then pour him/herself a glass full from. ;-)
Maryland finished last in the ACC Atlantic
So they played in the Emerald Bowl, a bowl win is still a bowl win- and they looked like they wanted to go out with a victory. Barkley had 2 ints, but he also had 2 TD’s and ran one in. He was bailed out by his upperclassmen, but the yards he put up on a decent Eagle defense isn’t anything to sniff at.
