Silly foul by Pondexter.

But I can’t complain he’s been great so far.

Q-pon looking casual…….

Even game so far

We need to shoot better to beat these guys.

Well, this is sloppy

Blocked dunk, missed dunk, dumb turnovers by both teams

by Brian Floyd on Dec 12, 2009 11:33 AM PST reply actions

Need to hit that shot

Need to hit those uncontested three’s.

by John Berkowitz on Dec 12, 2009 11:35 AM PST reply actions

We.....don't look good in half cour sets.

I don’t know how we’re only down by one but hooray?

by tintin on Dec 12, 2009 11:59 AM PST reply actions

Blowout now.

Romar’s teams consistently look clueless on the road (this is a neutral game but away from home).

This feels like another sweet 16 team.

Distressing Lack of Preparation by Romar

Everyone in the nation knows that Georgetown relies entirely on backdoor cuts to score. Has UW defended the backdoor at all in this game?

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 12:57 PM PST reply actions

The bigger problem has been all the unforced turnovers.

Plus we’ve had several open 3’s that were missed.

by tintin on Dec 12, 2009 12:58 PM PST up reply actions

don'gt know about "bigger" problem

Georgetown shoots layups while UW shoots off-balance garbage? Btw, take Overton out of the game and half of those 23 turnovers wouldn’t exist. Romar didn’t prepare this team, and it hurts me to say that but its the truth.

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 1:01 PM PST up reply actions

I know it's hard to believe but Overton only has 2 turnovers this game.

I agree about the lack of preparation and I’d say it extends to both sides of the court. Our halfcourt sets have been terrible.

by tintin on Dec 12, 2009 1:06 PM PST up reply actions

i believe it tintin but you misunderstand me...

Overton as the supposed point guard has don e nothing but make bad decisions all game and he’s put pressure on other players to make plays that have no business creating for themselves. overton needs to come off the bench in spots. either play Gaddy an dlet him learn or tell IT that he is the point guard and let him run the show. Overton is a liability the longer he’s on the court. Romar has to decide NOW.

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 1:09 PM PST reply actions

If you think that Overton was the problem I don't know what game you watched

And “point guard” doesn’t mean anything in Romar’s system. Once the offense is underway a guard is a guard.

by thecassino on Dec 12, 2009 1:15 PM PST up reply actions

CassinoI din't say Overton was "the" problem

I started by stating Romar’s lack of preparation was “the” problem. I can go on all day if you’d like but let’s start with atrocious defense of the backdoor cuts. Then let’s talk about his lack of half-time adjustments. A part of the poor coaching is reflected on his lack of adecision on what to do with Gaddy. Gaddy is a Point Guard that is all he will ever be. So basically you’re saying that Gaddy doesn’t fit Romar’s system??

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 2:29 PM PST up reply actions

To make this offense work at all this season Romar either gives the ball to IT or he gives it to Gaddy. But at the moment he has given it to Overton. That is a huge Problem.

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 2:32 PM PST up reply actions

Thomas took 18 shots. Seems like he's getting his touches just fine.

And Im not sure what you want him to do on offense when Overton is on the floor. Guards are always going to handle the ball.

by thecassino on Dec 12, 2009 4:26 PM PST up reply actions

not talking about IT's shots either...

…its simple romar needs playmakers. Overton is not a playmaker and never will be. Overton is a great defensive specialist period… Gaddy supposedly is a playmaker but Romar is certainly not bringing those skills out of him because Gaddy looks unsure and frankly, soft…That leaves IT but he can’t be just a scorer if Gaddy isn’t going to be used correctly and allowed to learn on the job. So either put both scoring and playmaking on IT’s shoulders and tell him to take over with the ball in his hands the majority of the time or develop Gaddy now.

Romar is definitely not running a true dribble-drive offense because he has too many players on court that can’t do both. This is more of a forced tempo offense where you run no matter what except when you have no playmakers you end up with 25 turnovers, a lack of scoring and a Loss. This is going to be a long season if Romar doesn’t put his best talent on the court and commit to what he’s selling these recruits.
There is no time for waffling because conference play is around the corner.

by 206 on Dec 12, 2009 6:14 PM PST up reply actions

Again, it's like you want Overton to just take a seat when the Huskies have the ball

He’s earned minutes by being one of the best defensive players in the nation. If you think he’s going to see his minutes or role reduced I don’t know what to tell you.

by thecassino on Dec 13, 2009 8:12 AM PST up reply actions

A big man

Just not a good matchup for us with their size.

by thecassino on Dec 12, 2009 1:28 PM PST up reply actions

Lack of an inside presence

Along with too many turnovers. Bryan-Amaning looks very weak and hesitant inside.

by Juneautom on Dec 12, 2009 1:28 PM PST up reply actions

Gaddy looks like a Freshman in the headlights

Trent looks like he can be playing more later in the season. Pondexter is a beast along with Thomas. The rest are a work in progress. Overton needs to step it up.

by Juneautom on Dec 12, 2009 1:31 PM PST reply actions

Hard to watch this year...

..this team has been very sloppy on D and very sloppy with turnovers – especially unforced turnovers. Alot of careless passes / bad passes. Frustrating to watch.

by Snostrebla on Dec 12, 2009 4:07 PM PST reply actions

We are not good

We are just not a good team. We looked bad at Texas Tech, we looked bad against Montana, and we got pummeled against Georgetown. We don’t have any inside presence, our passes are sloppy, and we don’t have “go to offense”. The defense hacks to much and gives up too many easy buckets.

I think we will improve, but this team will not win close games.

by Fighting Husky on Dec 12, 2009 7:27 PM PST reply actions

I'm not sure I follow your logic

We’re not a good team because we played poorly in three games, yet won one of them, went to overtime in another and battled back and almost made the third interesting? Bad teams don’t do that. Bad teams roll over and get blown out when they play poorly.
At this time last year people were also saying that the season looked grim because the team had lost 3 games. I don’t have to remind you how wrong they were.
This is college basketball. Even the best teams lose games over the course of a season. The Huskies lost two games away from home to teams with a combined record of 17-0. The sky is not falling.

by thecassino on Dec 13, 2009 8:07 AM PST up reply actions

I wouldn't say we are not good

But I think the Georgetown game gave us a clear and concise picture that we have a lot of work to do if we are going to be an NCAA tournament team. I think the defense is there, but there are holes hear and there- particulary the back door passing lanes. We’ve continued to struggle in that department. Are we getting position to crash the boards? That is the key to rebounding, are we getting into position to rebound?

We’ve played very sloppy in transition, which is our staple. If we are going to make consistent runs we’ve got to execute more effectively in transition. Are we being unselfish with the ball? I saw a lot of ill-advised shots in the Georgetown game. Many were rushed to be put up and I don’t think we are making good decisions distributing the ball to find the open shooter. But I will say that this is what early nonleague action is designed for, yet everybody thinks it means something.

Coach Romar is still trying to figure out his rotation patterns, substitution patterns, and find key contributors in different situations. Let Coach get this team functioning as it should for Pac 10 play. Not all is lost, we are just trying to find the right combinations of personnel. But we’ve got to start playing a helluva lot better. This team is good, we’ve just got a lot of work to iron out before league action heats up.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 13, 2009 1:04 PM PST up reply actions

Gaddy Time!

I’d say that our shot selection was very bad at times, which puts the ball back in the oppositions hands if you don’t clear the rebound. Shot selection was down right awful.

I think we are trying to figure out how to work Gaddy into the offense. He started out very hesitant offensively and has continued that. I don’t think the kid has his confidence level up. There is a tremendous amount of pressure put on you when you are a McDonald’s All American out of high school. I think that sort of pressure is effecting Gaddy’s performance on the court. I think the best thing for Gaddy is start him at point, let him run the half court offense, allow him the be the distributor of the ball. If we do that, then in time he will become more confident in his shots.

Who ever said “get Gaddy in the game and put Overton on the bench”, I agree with right now. Our offense is sporadic right now, it’s not functioning on all cylinders. Overton is a defensive specialist and a spark off the bench. Gaddy is a true point guard who can dazzle folks with distribution of the basketball. It’s time to get Gaddy in the game.

All I saw was purple

by crazidawg on Dec 13, 2009 8:49 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, Gaddy needs 70% of minutes...

Our other guards have no variation, drive and dish only… We will get many more easy buckets if we let Gaddy run the show in the half-court. I don’t care if he doesn’t take a lot of shots, all he needs to do is distribute to Thomas, Pondexter, and anyone else who has an open look and he’s an asset out there.

by lailaihei on Dec 13, 2009 11:46 PM PST up reply actions

Hopefully I'm wrong

I think we have a chance to do well in the Pac 10, but that is more a function of the Pac 10 being down. This team has tendency to play sloppy for periods and let teams not as good get sizable leads – Texas Tech, Georgetown, Montana. For some reason the defensive play is slow to react. Players are out of position, committing fouls when they should not, and not blocking out for rebounds.

I think we can be a good team by the end of the year if the defensive effort picks up and we develop a better offensive scheme, but right now we have a lot of room for improvement.
