Josh Smith to UCLA
Kind of what was expected, but it still sucks. We can debate the pros and cons all day for one and dones, but it would've been nice to see the local kid stay home. No word yet on Terrence Jones, who may or may not be announcing tonight.

We’ve been prepped for this for quite a while, so it’s not a shock. Still sucks though – Brockman’s point was a great one (about the value of repping your local school). That said, I do buy the contention that UCLA is probably a better fit for his game than the UW. And if we land Terrence Jones (who’s a better fit for Romar’s system) that will take away most of the sting of losing Smith.
The fact that Terrence Jones appears like he’s going to wait until the Spring signing period to decide isn’t good news for the UW. Word is his family wants him close to home. Given that Smith just verballed with UCLA, you’d think everything was in place for Jones to select the UW if that was really his top choice. Reading between the lines, I get the feeling the conflict stems from Jones preferring another school while his family prefers Washington.
Hard to compete with Kentucky
Even when they don’t have a snakeoil salesman like Calipari violating up the recruiting trail. My guess is that’s probably where Jones wants to go.
UCLA will have a so-so year
In college hoops this year and probably finish 3rd in the pac 10 but….
The Bruins dont have any current players on the roster who will make the nba jump, mainly because tyler honeycutt is having a rash of injuries.
Honeycutt if healthy he would be a 1st rounder, the rest of the team has a lot of borderline nba guys as of right now.
UCLA will be very scary next season imo because of gaurd depth and the already have solid swingmen and bigs.
Josh Smith was a huge get. Washington will own the pac 10 this year tho.
Best wishes, JS
at least you finally got it over so we can move on. Get Pelle or Chol and the ship will sail on. Jones I am worried about like Kirk said, get the feeling if he really wanted to, he would have announced. Too bad dirty coaches past can’t be carried on to the coaches themselves, rather than just hammering the school. It should be shared sanctions in all cases. USC/Floyd etc.
