Tanigawa is a Dawg
Colin Tanigawa from Loyola High School in Los Angeles has committed to the University of Washington. The natural center had offers from Arizona State, Nebraska, UCLA, and Iowa State in addition to Washington.
Tanigawa is the fourth HS offensive lineman in this class and expect Washington to sign one or two more in addition to looking for some immediate help via the JC route. Scout has him rated as a two star while Rivals has him rated as a three star. Scout still has not evaluated him to give him a final rating. The feeling is he is a three start talent when the evaluation is done. Tanigawa is rated as one of the top ten OL in the Los Angeles region.
Washington is still in on Micah Hatchie, Michael Christie, and Niu Sale. Hatchie will visit after his season is over and the other two visited last weekend. All three have current offers. Christie and Sale didn't verbal this past weekend but both were excited about their trip. The Huskies still haven't given up on Nick Rowland who verbaled to Oregon earlier this month either.
Overall it looks to be a very solid OL class for Washington at this point. Adding a four star player like Hatchie would be the proverbial cherry on top of the ice cream sundae. Expect more recruiting news over the weekend since the coaches are out on the road visiting with recruits and theri familes all over the West.

Thanks for the update now if we can get some DL. I see MLB Hayes Pullard is going to visit – that would be a big get in an area of need. Any thoughts on a QB? If Locker leaves (which I think he will) that gives us only 3 QBs which really leaves us short.
I doubt Sark will try to sign a 2nd QB in this class. Unless disaster strikes, they should be OK next year with Fouch & Price if Locker leaves, and give Montana the opportunity to redshirt.
Obviously it would be best for the team if Locker returns, but I don’t think they need to sign a 2nd QB if he declares for the draft.
Locker isn't going
the guy hasn’t reached his potential yet, but the Notre Dame kid has. Locker is going to follow the footsteps of Manning not Leaft [see career paths of the two].
Peyton Manning is an american icon, a celebrity, and future hall of famer, and Superbow MVP. Ryan Leaf- in custody of law inforcement and stairing down a prison sentence. It’s real simple fellas. Locker is going to to the right thing. Ensure that he maxes out on his potential prior to entering the draft. Right now he knows he is raw meat to scouts and the pros will not protect him like Sark can.
Locker is staying.
All I saw was purple
We’ll see. If he continues to be projected as a 1st round pick, there’s a decent chance he enters the draft. While he doesn’t need the money given his baseball contract, he has to consider the possibility that rookie contracts will change after this draft and factor in how an injury or injuries as a Husky in 2010 could impact his future.
I think we all agree that returning for another year of coaching by Sark & Nussmeier would be highly beneficial to his development as a QB and improve his chances of success as an NFL QB, but if he continues to be discussed by scouts as a top QB prospect for this draft, the financial pressure for him to declare will be enormous.
Crazi - think with your head, not your heart.
We all want Locker to stay, but if somebody was going to offer you 20+ Million dollars over a few years, you’d consider leaving too. Right now, nobody knows what Locker is going to do, I doubt Locker even knows what he’s going to do. Of course he could use another year, but 20+ Million is prettty tempting.

Locker isn't going?
I wouldn’t be to sure if that.
He was a 100%Ty guy i would say it is 50/50 at this point. If his dad feels he is in the running for a deal he can’t refuse they will take the dollars.

the Bruce Feldman comment this week was an eye opener for me ...
… when he quoted an NFL assistant as saying that Locker was “easily” the best prospect this year at the position. Hard to not enter the draft under those kinds of conditions.
Let’s see, Tampa, St.Louis, Seattle, Detroit, Cleveland, Oakland and KC look like the worst teams (Tenn is probably better than their record) at this point. Of those, half will be looking to draft a QB.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
As much as it would hurt the Huskies . . .
it wouldn’t hurt as bad if he went to the Seahawks, but it would still hurt!

Tennessee is going to have a top 10 pick for sure...
but I don’t know if they would spend a top pick on a QB with Collins and Young still on the roster (and taking cap space). KC (Cassell), Oakland (Russel), Cleveland (Quinn/Anderson) and Detroit (Stafford) are all set at QB, or at least not apt to taking a flyer on a QB in the top 5. The Rams could use a QB, but Bulger is serviceable and Tampa took Freeman pretty early last year.
I don’t see Bradford/Locker as a “once in a generation QB tandem” ala Manning/Leaf or Elway/Marino/Kelly. At least not if Jake takes off this year. Jake, Clausen, Pike and a few others could make a big splash in a QB heavy draft next year. I see him coming back since I wouldn’t put any team in the top 10 on paying QB type money this year…although I’m sure I’ll be wrong, it doesn’t make much sense.
You are dreaming, my friend...
… if he is the consenus #1 QB in the draft, he’s going … and we’d be idiots for thinking that he should not.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
He might go...
but I don’t see the payoff being there for him. I’m just saying that if he’s the #1 QB right now that it’s a pretty weak class. He’ll come off the board as the #1 QB at around the 8th to 15th pick. If he stays and becomes NFL ready he could come off the board at #1, especially if some of the other Juniors see the weak class and jump this year.
WOO! HOO!
Great news! This had to be a monster offensive line class and it’s almost there! GO DAWGS!! Sark and Holt are fantastic recruiters and I think this staff as a whole are very strong in the recruiting department.

with ossai gone
and everyone back with ikeharra (sp) moving to center.
are we happy to redshirt all the incoming linemen?
or will kohler be our lt next year?
Too early to know. Right now, here’s what we have returning:
Habben – RS-Sr
Tolar – RS-Sr
Christine – RS-Sr
Wood – RS-Jr
Fancher – RS-Jr
Armelin – RS-Jr
Shugert – RS-Jr
Kelemete – Jr
Ikehara – RS-So
Schaefer – RS-So
Thomas – RS-So
Kohler – Fr
Porter – Fr
Riva – Fr
Tanigawa – Fr
Way early guess, but I’d think the starting 5 would be Tolar (G), Habben (T), Kelemete (T), Ikehara © & Wood (G), with the primary backups being Schaefer, Christine & Fancher. Hopefully Shugert and Armelin develop enough to provide quality depth and allow all the freshmen to RS.
Also, don’t be surprised if Sark signs 1-2 JC OL to help provide immediate depth and competition for starting spots.
Looking ahead, we really need Fancher to come back from his injuries, Ikehara to gain enough strength to live up to his early hype, Schaefer to continue developing into starting material and Kelemete to get big and strong enough to be a stalwart LT. I have a feeling Sark may be looking at bringing in JC OL for the next couple of classes, at least until his current group of 2010 commits have developed enough to step in as starters.
Fancher and Christine are big if’s to come back from their injuries,

That's two down three to go
Sark said he wants 30 new recruits, so that mean 5 guys from this years team won’t be back. Fancher and Christine gone that is 3 to go

Christine
He was a walkon. Not sure if he had a scholarship this year or not.

Christine
was awarded a scholarship this year as a walkon. He was one of 5 scholarships awarded to walkons, I think.

More than five
Probably more like 7-8…you can bring in 25 for each class but you can only have a total of 85.

I figured Fancher was iffy given the number of foot/leg issues he’s had. Sad to hear that Christine’s injury may be career threatening.
Makes it all the more important to get some JC guys in here for immediate depth. And puts a lot of pressure on guys like Shugart and Armelin to step up, because if Fancher & Christine are iffy for next year, it means the OL is only 6 guys deep for next year.
Broken legs with ligament damages to the ankle for both Glenn and Christine. They both has surgery so not sure if they will be ready for spring.
Fancher has had three surgeries so far….so they really won’t know till he heals if he if his problems are corrected enough for him to continue.

I think he could be...
…after reading how he already has been working hard in the weight room, it’s possible. You’d like to redshirt every freshman but you also have to play your best.

Defensive End
We need a stud at this position who can get to the QB. This is really boring having a bye and all. Oregon destroyed U$C, our big loss to them doesn’t look as bad now. GO DAWGS!!

Hudson looks like a solid DE
I’m really excited about Brent Williams. His pass rush skills are terrific right now and he should be able to line up at OLB/DE in the vein of Aaron Curry or Demarcus Ware and hassle the QB. He’s a bit undersized, but if he can keep his head on straight and get some weight room development he should be a player on Sundays.
OREGON KING OF THE PAC-10
Need a blog on this. TOTAL DOMINATION. Even gave USC a gift touchdown (fumble). Very exciting, watched every minute. USC never in the game. GAME OF THE YEAR!!!! All teams are our friend agains the media darlings.
Did anyone pickup on the repeated references to ND as a BCS team and deserving of a major bowl. Where are all the prognosicators who wrote Chip Kelley off after game one? Wouldn’t be surprised to see USC back in the BCS top eight in the final ranking.
Letem' celebrate it now
The zeros better enjoy this ride thru the Pac 10 because it isn’t going to hold up. Keep in mind, everybody said this was the perfect year to unseat the Trojans- somebody finally did- hurrah! And congrats.
Enjoy it while you can…
