Holt
He needs to take all day Sunday, maybe even Monday, and watch the game tapes from the last 4 years. This crappy excuse for defensive play calling DOES NOT WORK. At least have the players jump around a bit, keep the offense guessing. Watch ASU’s linebackers, they run up to the line, drop back, run up, drop back, lots of movement going on. Our linebackers look like they are playing in a video game that is 10 years old, they all stand perfectly still in a perfect row 3-4 yards back from the d-line, what are we, a bunch of mummys????
Why is it easy to stop a one dimensional offense? Because you know what’s coming. How do you make Sullivan look like a Heisman candidate? Because he knows what’s coming. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SHOW ME SOME VARIETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong
I don’t expect to see a great defense, and I understand the talent level isn’t anything to get excited about.
But I’m seeing problems with the schemes that are killing us. Coaching decisions that are killing us. They have to give the players a chance, and I don’t think he’s doing a very good job of that.

Honest Question: Do you guys see Locker as a disaapointment?
I remember when he came out of high school and he had so much potential. I keep hearing all this talk about him being the best player in the Pac -10 and I don’t see it, at least not consistently. Maybe he played to early or whatever but he looks real inaccurate and seems to make some poor choices throwing into coverage and it seems like he is holding on to the ball to long. Even his game stats are not that impressive.
He’s gonna have a hard time next week if you can’t work out the kinks…..
Anyway good luck with your game tonight and GO DUCKS!!

It's ALL Locker's fault
He’s the only one who shows up to play, so it must be his fault that we suck.
Translation: You don’t know what you are talking about, he is everything they say, and then some. His biggest fault: he can’t play all 11 positions on the field at the same time. I’m all for cloning!

I don't at all...
his leadership has won this team 2 games after an 0-12 season. He’s quite accurate, especially inside 15 yards and is converting over 50% on third down. This isn’t an offense that will put up huge numbers like Chips’, but he’s definately the best QB West of the Rockies.
He’s also got the threat of taking off for a TD with his legs at any time. His tools make him nearly unstopable for any extended period of time.

I don't think that's on Holt, the touchdown that is.
He played non-prevent, which I think is fine considering State could have easily gone for the mid-game and field goal range. However, where was your safety?

The defense stunk for 90% of this game, should never have come down to that play.

Exactly.
The clock management on that last drive was atrocious. Either you drive down the field and go for the FG, or you run it out and go for OT. He did neither.

Final Drive
That final drive of ours lost the game. Either you run the clock out with running plays or you take your time outs and make sure you get a first down. Absolutely horrible play calling.
Is this what happens when the head coach is also calling the plays?
At least we’ve been competitive this year. We would have given up early in the third quarter last year.

Blaming the loss on the mis-coaching on the final drive is kind of stupid.
There was a 95% chance of the game going into overtime if we do a “good” drive and a 97% chance if we punt.
by lailaihei on Oct 17, 2009 10:43 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Let's say we have a 55% chance to win at the start of the drive.
We do the WORST thing possible on that drive with clock management, Sark sucks, whatever.
But even AFTER the punt, we have maybe a 47% chance of winning.
That’s a 7% swing.
Do you know what the swing is by letting that pass get to someone open in the end zone? 47%
The blame is almost ALL on the coverage.
by lailaihei on Oct 17, 2009 10:47 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You can point to lots of things as having an effect on the outcome of the game. What if Folk had made the 48 yard field goal earlier in the game? What if we had been able to tackle in the first half?
However, with 1:18 to go and three timeouts with the score tied (and the other team with only one timeout) there really is only two options. Go for OT and run out the clock or use your timeouts and try to get into field goal range. But to call two running plays, and play hurry-up to throw an incomplete pass on third down. Inconceivable!
by NeuroDawg on Oct 17, 2009 10:48 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It was incredibly stupid, I'm not saying it wasn't.
I’m just saying everyone is angry BECAUSE OF THE RESULT OF THE GAME.
95% of the time the Sun Devils don’t score, we’re still mad at Sark for the bad clock management, but we forget about it.
Everyone here is angry because we lost, not what Sark actually did, which didn’t make that much difference on the game.
by lailaihei on Oct 17, 2009 10:50 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not angry because we lost. And I think that the majority of folks here would agree with me. I’m angry at the way we lost, completely mismanaging the clock. And I think it’s a consequence of having a head coach who is calling the offensive plays. In the heat of the moment that’s just one too many tasks for one person to be managing.
As others have mentioned I think that it’s part of Sarkisian’s learning process as a head coach. It’s just too bad that it had to happen this way.
by NeuroDawg on Oct 17, 2009 11:01 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can't belief we played for OT with 3 TOs and 1:18 left. Plenty of time to get the win. Can't cover the deep pass or anything. Very tough loss, and the coaching is to blame. Horrible playcalling all night.

Completely Sark's fault
worst play calling/clock management I’ve every seen…I don’t even care that he played for OT, but to pass on 3rd down and not simply run out the clock at that point was incredibly stupid – cost us the game

they would have been forced to use it or let the clock expire…wouldn’t have allowed them to set up for the field goal. Completely wrong call at the point it was made

This is the first time all season I've genuinelly been angry at Sark
We had a chance to take the game—whether it was driving for the FG or sitting on the ball and wait for OT—and he screwed the pooch. He let ASU hang around, even with our atrocious secondary defense.
God, I’m so upset right now. I haven’t been upset at a loss like this in a long time.
