Arizona at Washington Game Thread

Arizona Wildcats at Washington Huskies, Oct 10, 2009 7:20 PM PDT

Washington takes on the Arizona Wildcat's tonight at Husky Stadium in a game starting at 7:15 PM PST.

Key to tonights game will be how well Washington does with two new starting safeties in the lineup. Nate Williams will miss the game because of a concussion and Justin Glenn is out for the season with a broken leg. Greg Walker and Victor Aiyewa are scheduled to start in their place with true frosh Nate Fellner and walk-on Tripper Johnson backing them up. Aiyewa  and Walker both have previous starting experience.

Another big key is if the Washington defense can stop the Arizona running game. The Wildcats lead the Pac 10 in rushing. Washington needs to take them out of their usual game and somehow gain control of the clock on their end.

If Washington stops or slows down the Arizona running game can they stop QB Nick Foles? Nick had an excellent debut against Oregon State two weeks ago. For the first time all season the Wildcat's offense worked the way it was designed.

Expect to see more of RB Demitrius Bronson tonight. Johri Fogerson has been out all week with the flu. Bronson has only played one play this season and that was against Stanford. What he brings to the squad is more muscle going up the middle in short yardage situations. Nothing against Chris polk but sometimes at the goal line a 215 pound running back can get that extra yard when other can't.

What has held Bronson back so far this fall was a shoulder injury which limited his effectiveness. He also put the ball on the ground way too much for the coaches liking in camp. Those hurdles seem to be behind him and the coaches want to give him a chance to see what he can do going forward.

game time

They may be bamged up. They may be young but they don’t lack in desire. GO HUSKIES!!!

game tonight

Keys for UW:

- no unforced errors at the QB position
- play to our strengths; rock that right side of the line of scrimmage with Polk
- successful sprinkling in of play action and misdirections; UA has speed and will be a little extra jacked; we can take advantage of it
- solid tackling; we’ll give up some yards and some first downs, but we need to avoid big plays…make them get into the red zone and succeed in a short field if they are going to score
- pass rush; we need to find just a little pressure to take the young QB out of his comfort zone in what should be a loud and uncomfortable environment
- get a lead … and hold it. We have the tools to shred the clock

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Not sure how that wasn't a catch

But I’ll take the break —we’re due.

Can someone more knowledgable clue me in?

If you’re switching the ball from one hand to another don’t you have possession? Weird.

TD!

@ hportallstar

Condotta reporting Fellner started.

FSN also had Goodwin starting and he’s actually not even in uniform…

This game has tremendous intensity

Must have been a personel issue on UW’s part as far as the TO goes.

Finally at the end of that drive

they started making some plays. Even though they were moving up field it wasn’t pretty at first.

Is there an online stream of this game anywhere?

For some reason, I can’t find it through the usual channels I go to.

Good.

Broke a huge run for a TD. Threw a TD. Interception off a dropped pass.

That didn't look like a catch to me.

Happy to be ahead at the half

Hopefully we can eliminate the TO’s & get a couple stops (outside of the redzone) in the second half.

And it’s deserved.
Dropped return.
Dropped punt snap.
High punt snap.
Horrible offense.

The offense is really flat without him.

good time to come out and pound it down there throats

keep it simple and move the chains. we need to get the D off the field for a bit.

There it is! They needed that badly! Big momentum swing for the huskies

…but Locker looks like he got the air knocked out of him.

why is there no LB in the flats

When Trufant covers the deep route?

They’ve had about 5 plays tonight that should have gone for 20+ but the carrier slipped.

by B Money on Oct 10, 2009 9:57 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

our defense is flat out not performing

Sloppy, on their heels, can’t make a read.

by B Money on Oct 10, 2009 10:11 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

tired

running sideline to sideline all night. ’zona has a 30 play advantage, ridiculous.

by Bamer_ on Oct 10, 2009 10:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I could be a QB for AZ

Just a one step and zip it out to the receiver on the flat. Like the announcer said, it’s like a 7 on 7 drill. Hate to say it and i hope for a huge momentum shift and a miracle, but the game is about done. And I am telling you; it’s these night games, they can’t seem to win games past 4 p.m. It’s a strange coincidence. haha

by CLC3123 on Oct 10, 2009 10:15 PM PDT reply actions

a FG will about wrap it up...

I gotta 2 hour drive home and I gotta work at 9am.

Hopefully a miracle goes down while I’m driving home.

Good night all.
