Huskies slip by Stanford
Washington won a very physical game tonight by pulling it out at the end against a very good Stanford squad. Both teams played tough all night but the difference was the way Washington hit the boards. The blue collar Huskies lead the nation in rebounding margin. UW out-rebounded the Cardinal 41-25 last night.
Jon Brockman scored 19 points, including the game-winning put-back with 4.6 seconds remaining after his 18th rebound for his only field goal after halftime, and surging Washington beat Stanford 84-83 on Thursday night.
Isaiah Thomas added 18 points for the Huskies who rallied from eight points down early in the second half for their ninth consecutive victory. Matthew Bryan-Amaning had another strong game coming off the bench to add 17 points.
Next up for Washington is California on Saturday at Hec Edmundson Pavillion. The Golden Bears slipped by Washington State 57-50 last night for their eight straight win.

YES!!!!
That is what I am talking about!!!! I was so upset last night when I went to turn the game on and….FSN is not part of my package!!!! Either way, I am so pumped to hear that they won. This could be a VERY good year for the UW mens team.
Too bad you missed it!
It was really a great game. I was thinking that I haven’t seen very many where my team has had a chance with like 10 seconds left to make the play that wins it. They got it done and again it was on the boards. MBA got it inside and put it up and Brockman followed his miss with a nice put back. Stanford had a chance with 4.6 seconds left on the clock but the Huskies defended nicely to force a turnover and got the win. It was exciting to watch.
I am very impressed by Brockman and his supporting cast.
Thomas has shown that he can be a big time college player.
And Bryan-Amaning has shown that even though we will miss Brockman’s presence next year, we have plenty of big talent.
I’m also glad that Pondexter is playing well. After such a fabulous freshman year before Pac 10 play, I was worried that his 0 points in the season opener would spell the end for him, but he has shown that his length and athletic ability are good enough to be one of the better do-everything swingmen in the Pac 10.
We need to keep shooting better
We need to hit more free throws.
We need to hit a higher percentage of shots.
The competition ratchets up again on Saturday when we play Cal.
Great game
and great hustle. The 3 guards are rotating and playing well together. We don’t have a center, but most other teams don’t either. MBA is really coming on strong. My biggest concern is still free throws. I saw some real bricks and was surprised to see that they shot 22 for 33. Brockman, who leads just about every category including leadership and hustle, shot only 3 for 9 from the line. Given last night’s situation at the end of the game, if Stanford could have a do over, they should have tackled John while he went up for the rebound.
In future close games, Romar is going to have to decide if he can finish the game with his best player on the floor or not.
