Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Jake Locker

Ted Miller of ESPN interviewed Jake Locker.

"It was tough to say goodbye to Willingham and his staff, but for us to move forward as a team, it was something that was necessary," he said. "Something needed to change. 0-12 isn't acceptable for anybody."

This is a great interview and gives you a good idea of what is going through the players heads after the coaching change.

The forgottten is always the players the last regime left behind.

He needs to get better

In fact he needs to get a lot better because the days of earning a living with his feet are over.

Locker

needs to put baseball on the back burner and work with the Barton’s again this off season.

Barton

He has Nussmeier and Sarkisian to work with but spending some time with the Barton’s might be a good idea because the coaches aren’t allowed to participate in pre season workouts.

Baseball?

I don’t think that is going to happen.

Barton's and NCAA rules

That’s why I suggest he work with them, due to the limited coaching per National Communist’s Against Athletes rules.

I suspect Jake was clued in early between football and baseball choices. My take on the subject.

T9ODawg is absolutely correct. If Willingham really had the best interest of Jake Locker and the UW in mind, he would have told Jake to stick around last summer throwing to his receivers.

I think a lot of people are mixed up about how much time Locker spent playing baseball. He never missed a workout or anytime for football. He didn’t practice with the baseball team either. He just showed up and played.

All that being said….you can count on him not playing baseball.

Locker was bad timing or Sark was bad timing

Why couldn’t this kid be coming into the program right now? Locker has 2 years to put everything together and I firmly believe we won’t get the best of him- the NFL will. Sad state of affairs.

On the other hand, why didn’t we fire Ty a year early? It was 98% conclusive that our football team was bound to be as good or worse then the 2007 team. And the departure of our A.D. added more insults to the program. But here is the thing- if we’d fired Ty a year early whom do you suppose would be our head coach now? I’d bet it wouldn’t be Steve Sarkisian and surely Nick Holt and the rest of this great coaching staff wouldn’t be here right now.

I think the timing of firing Ty after this season was perfect timing to get Sark, but it was lousy timing in regards to Locker’s eligibility status. We have him for only 2 more stinkin’ seasons and that really sucks! The only way we might get him for third season if he get’s injured again he will be eligible for a medical redshirt season. Yet who wishes for someone to get hurt?

Locker needs to be a spongue and soak everything up he can this offseason! He’s got two more years to put it all together for himself and our team.

I dunno – with the right coaches, QB’s can blossom quickly. Kyle Boller was a disappointment his first 3 years at Cal, but in his Sr. year and his first season under Tedford, he made major strides forward. Same thing for Carson Palmer under Norm Chow – he improved in his last two years, his first two with Chow supervising him (and a certain Steve Sarkisian assisting him).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see serious improvement in Jake over the next two years under the guidance of Nussmeier and Sarkisian. Of course it would’ve been better for Locker to have had that kind of coaching from the start, but I don’t think it’s too late for Jake to become a quality pro-prospect QB.

in all fairness ...

… it is hard to say what kind of season jake would have had last year if he hadn’t been injured so early in the pac 10 schedule. the truth is that we don’t know how much development occurred last winter/spring because we never got to see him get into a rhythm. We certainly have no foundation to build an argument that somehow the baseball excursion sidetracked him.

Don't worry about Jake

and definitely do not underestimate him. He has the work ethic and with Sark’s guidance he’ll be turning heads this fall.

I really hate how people talk like Jake hasn’t lived up to expectations, or that they are dissappointed in his performance. Jake has carried this team on his shoulders, the only disappointing part was the injury, which showed exactly how much Jake WAS the offense.

I’m not worried about Jake at all, I’m worried about the other 10 guys on offense, will they put in the work, the study time, and the effort necessary to due their part and make this a good offense.

Baseball

Baseball had nothing to do with it.

He pulled a hamstring and missed most of camp. That didn’t allow him to build rythym with his receivers. The broken thumb in the fourth game sealed the deal.
