Get to know your fellow bloggers

Lately it came to me that I really know very little about my fellow Husky bloggers. I think it would help our discussion quite a bit if we knew more about each other. For instance, age, location, how long you've been a Husky fan, and if you are willing your profession. So far, the only other blogger I have any clue about is Gekko, the numbers guy.

Star-divide

I'm 31 years old and have been a Husky fan my whole life, literally. I remember watching the Huskies play as far back as I can remember, my grandfather was a Husky fan, my dad was a Husky fan, and my little girl is a Husky fan, even if she doesn't know it yet. I'm an Air-ambulance pilot flying, yes you guessed it, Lear jets out of Seattle.

I hope others are interested in posting, that includes you John B., otherwise it's going to look like I want to talk about myself.

I'll start it off

I’m 12 years old, live in Portland, and have never been a Husky fan.

Not a bad idea...

I’m 47. I’ve been a Husky fan as long as I can remember, with Robin Earl being the first name that rings a bell. I joined the USAF in 1980, spent about 10 yrs. in before becoming a field engineer. I’ve followed the Huskies via various means from Germany, Florida, Panama California, Texas, Arizona, Korea, Cyprus, Qatar and most recently back to Korea again. The internet’s been a godsend to this Husky fan.

I work with the Synthetic Aperture Radar that’s installed on the U-2, both on the jet and with the ground processing equipment/software.

My family aren’t big Husky fans except when I’m around. I grew up in SW Washington back in the days when people had TV antenna rotors and the Portland channels sometimes came in clearer. I’ve only been to Husky Stadium twice(shame on me), usually managing to pick up a game when I’m in town to use my Seahawks’ tickets.

The stadium does need a lot of work. My biggest complaint was the narrow steps. I saw two people slip and fall due to them.

I’m optimistic about the new coach, but I was optimistic before and burned, so I’m just waiting and seeing, although I like what I see so far.

My next step in Husky fandom is buying a slingbox. The dawgman chat room is nice and all, but it kind of sucks seeing the results before you hear or read about them. I’m not sure what kind of latency a slingbox has, but it has to be better than what I’m using now.

Dawgfan 22

I’m 50 years old and have been a Husky fan all my life. Well not really, I mean I grew up in Lakewood WA and the Huskies were THE college team, period. I don’t think it was until I was in jr. high that I realized that there were other colleges in Washington. I remember my buddy had an older brother who went to wazzu and we’d just kind of laugh about it. I think my buddy was in the same boat as I was “wsu, where is that?” and “that’s interesting but it ain’t Washington!” It’s kind of funny but the first Husky game I think I ever watched on TV was a dandy, “The 1978 Rosebowl”, I actually woke up from my new years eve celebration, turned on the TV and watched the entire game! I remember how well the Huskies played and put it to the Wolverines, that was special!

The thing is I used to watch Don James Sunday coaches show all the time but I guess I was too busy hanging with my buddies on Saturday to watch Husky football. My father was born and raised in Seattle. He was an avid Husky fan but to this day I don’t know if he ever actually attended a game. My gut tells me he did though no ones ever been able to confirm that for me. It’s funny but my oldest sister got me actually going to live Husky games. My first was in 1989 against ASU a loss but I was hooked. I had never been in a stadium so huge with so many people attending. My timing was perfect and the next three seasons were Rosebowls! I attended two of those including the 1992 NC win against Michigan. WOW! what a ride I will never forget that! I’ve had season tickets since 92 and have been a Tyee for most of those years. I remember after all the controversy about who was better Miami or UW I talked to my brother in law and we planned to go to the game in 94. My brother in law wussed out and I took my wife. What a game! Another fantastic memory, you had to have been there but the 3000 Husky fans there sounded like 20000 and I kid you not! I sat about 4 rows behind Don James. It was wild!

I’m a professional firefighter by trade and have been for almost 29 years. I live in Richland WA.

Well

I have recently turned 50 and have been a Husky fan since birth which would be 1958. My earliest recollection would be my father leaving in late December 1959 with his buddies to head to Pasadena on a train to watch the the 1960 Rose Bowl. I don’t know how it can get better than that.

Taking the train!!!

Sounds like my grandparents, they LOVE the train. Planes, not so much.

I'm Bryan

I’m 23 and have been a Husky fan as long as I can recall. My earliest memory is when I was 6 years old, watching BJH, Huard and the 91’ tear everyone apart on my Dad’s lap. That is the time when I fell in love with college sports (since all of the Seattle pro teams were in disarray to say the least). To this day, there are still only two things I geek out about, and the big one is college football (I’m also a big Mixed Martial Arts fan).

I was born in Edmonds, WA and raised in Lynnwood, Wa where I still reside today with my wife. I’m a Consulting Engineer for a firm out of Seattle where I dominate the weekly pickem’ pool that floats around the office.

Big Dawg

I am 59, I have seen all Rose Bowls since the the JO era and been to all of them except for two. The Best games were the 44-8 whipping of Wisconsin and the National Championship game against Michigan. I am fortunate to have great seats at Husky stadium. Husky football is a weekend event. I go on two road trips a year and it is a blast. I am avid supporter of Husky Athletics. GO DAWGS !!!

Jack

67, born in Forks, live outside of Tenino. I stole my handle from the old T9O Ranch, which is now home to the largest alpaca herd in the world,

I’ve been a Husky fan since Mc Elhenny and Heinrich and a season ticket holder/Tyee since 1991. I’ve been to two Rose Bowls (both wins, 1992 ans 2001). We sit on the southside, east 45 yard line, fairly high up. We went to Grand Canyon and Tucson last season and plan on Tempe this upcoming season. I didn’t make that many road games while I was working as I usually had a job that included working Sundays. The only away games I’ve been to were all losses except for the Rose Bowls starting with the 1998 Nebraska game. One exception, the 1960 Cal game while I was stationed on Treasure Island, San Francisco going to a Navy electronics tech school.

I finally met John B last December in Hawaii after chatting with him on Dawgman since the late 90’s when he was known as ChicagoDawg.

roland aka prrbrr

age 62 born in Seattle, Garfield HS 63, UW 68. USAF fighter pilot 68-90, United Air Lines pilot 90-06. Husky fan since 1955, when my older brother took me to Husky stadium in Cherbergs last year; to a little kid that place was gigantic. Played in band in 63 when we lost RB to Illinois and a couple of guys named Grabowski and Butkus. Watched many tough dawgs over the years, McKeta playing with a broken leg, Douglas hobbling off RB with a broken leg, no stretcher for these guys, and Brownings hit on Mel Renfroe in Multnomah stadium, still the biggest colision I have ever seen. Browning stubled off, more than likely concussed, but Renfroe the stretcher. Love my dawgs so much we bought a condo in Sea for a place to stay during football and bball seasons. TYEE and proud of it.

I work with a retired United Captain

He flew the 727 and then the 747, what did you fly?

For Lear, since you asked

plumbed on 72 for 3 months then FO on 737-300 for 5 years, 757 FO for 15 months, 737-300 Captain until 5 months b4retirement when UAL closed domicile and sent me to school on Airbus where they got 3 months of me on the line. For my flying career, I much preferred my military career vice the animosity in the commercial division.

Wow, some real Husky (fan) legends in here!

I’m 26, currently in Evanston, IL.

John, are you somewhere in the Chicago area, or is the ChicagoDawg name a legacy thing?

Evanston

I have been in Chicago for over a decade. I actually own a condo in Rogers Park a block or two from Evanston. Pete Miller’s used to be my favorite hangout. I built a house in the Northwest suburbs of Hawthorn Woods a couple of years ago. Want to buy a great condo with a Husky discount? LOL…

by John Berkowitz on Dec 16, 2008 10:08 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I work around downtown Evanston

Sometimes we go to Pete Miller’s on Friday afternoons for beer, appetizers and pool. Been meaning to go for an actual dinner when there’s live music. I’ll bump it up a notch on my to-do list.

I actually live on the north end of Evanston, right by all the NU athletic facilities. Bought the condo about a year ago, so I’m not looking to move yet, but hey… how big is the Husky discount? :-) And I’ll keep my ears open for anyone who’s looking for a place on the North Side…

Kirk

I’m 39, and I’ve been watching the Huskies since the ‘78 Rose Bowl. My grandfather bought season tickets in ’61 after my parents moved to Seattle, and I’ve been going to games from the ‘78 season onward. When it came time to go to college, there really wasn’t any decision to be made once I got my acceptance letter from the UW, and I graduated in Spring of ’92. Lifelong Seattle resident.

Aside from a couple Apple Cups in college, I haven’t seen the Huskies outside of Husky Stadium, but I vow to change that in the coming years, especially for a bowl game.

I’m a computer animator and I work in the video games industry. Worked on a few football titles for Microsoft from ‘98-’03 until they shut down that division.

After the slow death of the Ty years, I’m excited to see what Sarkisian can do. And I can safely say I’ll never take for granted winning seasons and bowl games again…

I'm impressed

Wow, I’m surprised by the amount of highly “experienced” fans we have here. No wonder we all are so passionate about our Dawgs.

It doesn’t surprise me that everybody is life long Husky fans, you have to be a diehard fan to still be a Husky faithful after the last 4 years. Hopefully we won’t see any more comments like “a true Husky fan would . . .”, I think its safe to say everybody listed above is a true/diehard Husky fan.

GO DAWGS!!!!

Except

for the 12 year old “bark rat” that chimed in.

That’s one thing that irritates me over on Dawgman….folks telling me I’m not a fan if I didn’t kiss ty’s ring or buy into his spiel, etc. and now there are some newbies yapping the same yap if I don’t blindly endorse Sark. Like Kirk, Sark has impressed me so far but for a while I was wondering if he was going to get any experienced assistants…hopefully he gets an older DC to go with the OC.

If I were a real bandwagon fan I would have quit a couple of years ago.

I'm with you 100%

Bandwagon fans wouldn’t spend their free time arguing on a blog during a 0-12 season.

I’m with you, I like Sark, he is exciting, but he has a huge potential, but he also has a HUGE task in front of him. I really don’t like the hire, we are capable of much better. That been said, I hope Sark is a diamond in the rough, and turns out to be the next great coach and Seattle’s version of Joe Pa, and Bobby Bowden.

Pet Peeve

What gets me is supposed “fans” who say “If this or that doesn’t happen or change I’m going to quit or not renew my tickets or ?” I understand fans being upset and wanting the coach fired but I don’t think a true fan abandons his team, ever.

I think fans have every right to disagree or want a coach fired but you should always support your team.

Sometimes the only way to get your opinion truly heard is to vote with your money. I don’t begrudge fellow dawg fans that have stopped going to games their decision, because in a capitalist society, that’s often the most effective way to provoke a change in behavior.

Besides, it means my seats get better every year :)

by kirkd on Dec 15, 2008 7:41 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm with you T90.

I guess its a carryover of our generation, it gets really old having posters tell you you aren’t a real fan if you don’t stand, didn’t go to the UW, or don’t agree with their position. What really used to bug me was guys telling us to leave, but they still had their own great ideas on how to spend the TYEE donations to do this or that.
I too wasn’t bowled over by Sarkisians hire but so far he has done mostly right. I would have liked to see him retain either Tormey or Hart, but understand its his regime so he can do what he needs to feel comfortable as long as he is succcesful.
The wholesale changes occuring at UW have me concerned a little, so this year we decided to just renew TYEE and our tickets, but not give the extra like we have in the past. In other words, we want to see improvement in atmosphere, playing, and other little things that we felt have been taken for granted in the past before we return to our excess donations over and above what is required to keep the seats.
BTW, thanks for stating you are from Tenino, all this time I thought your callsign was T ninety , but now get the gist. Gordy Harris anyone?

Duane

I am 44, live in Puyallup. I have been a husky fan forever, I grew up in Renton and went to games with my dad when I was young. I remember watching Joe Steele, Warren Moon. I do not remember the year I saw my first game…it was either 1975 or 1976. We sat about 5 rows from the tunnel and what an awesome experience as a child listening to the players coming down the tunnel…

I work for Boeing, help build wing spars in Fredrickson.

The last 4 years have been tough to take after where we were under Don James….it was sad to sit and watch as people would leave the stadium before halftime, I do understand their frustration. I hope that Sark will turn out to be a good hire…only time will tell.

Gekko

Born and raised in the pacific NW. Next b-day will be #36. UW grad in ’95 with a business degree focused on economics and analytics. Moved to SF for 7 glorious years … happened to be at the Stanford game with a bunch of my NoCal friends the day CW was injured. Truly tragic. I did a tour through Europe, went back to school for an advanced degree and ended up in Minneapolis now working in the healthcare field. Almost everyone here is either an engineer, doctor or snow plow operator.

Used to go by the moniker of Minny C (the C is for Chris) until John banned that alter ego (for reasons yet to be explained). I think I get under JB’s skin a little, but I’m a nice guy – tend to see things as never too bad and never too good. I’ve been cited for my tendency to be contrarian … but that is actually just me being my middle of the road self. I’m sarcastic but try to never flame or get personal. I’ve got two daughters who hardly ever get to see their aunts and uncles (most of whom are still in Seattle). But they are Husky fans through and through.

I’ve got a bunch of friends who peruse this site but never post. Shout out to you, gents.

The Dawgdude

is actually a Lobo and not a dawg. But I’ve lived here for almost 30 years and I always root for the local teams. That didn’t work out to well in the ‘70s in the Bay Area when I picked the 49ers instead of the Raiders. I’m 64 and my story is similar to Prrbrr, just running a year older than him as an ex-pilot in the Air Force and airlines. My daughters went to Miami and Oregon St, but they know who I root for.

I’m retired and have too much time to spend on these blogs, but the FB season was so bad I need this to carry me into next year. JB, thanks for all the info.
