Johnnie Kirton mini post

Just wanted to add a mini post to say that I have loved Kirton's effort this year. I haven't seen this kid quit on a single play all year.

Agree

too bad that the O line doesn’t put in that much effort.

aah, being a senior

helps as some of them finally realize this is their last opportunity. We didn’t help JK any in the long run by moving him (ala Reggie Davis, Spencer Marona et al) to various positions. If Gilby would have insisted and JK agree that he start at DE from the start maybe he could have had a better future in the NFL.

I was thinking the same

but couldn’t figure out which position he should have stuck with. DE makes the most sense provided he gets some training on the practice squad. He might make it as a special teamer. He should do well in the combine and while I don’t think he’ll be drafted, he’ll get a look somewhere.

I really wish I knew what was up with the OL. I think Garcia’s hurting more than he lets on and if so, thanks Juan but what does that say about his backups? Way too many things don’t make a lot of sense this year.

YES.

there is probably a good opportunity here to highlight several kids who have not quit on the year. I certainly agree on Kirton and would add Mason Foster, Ronnie Fouch, Brandon Johnson, D’Andre Goodwin, Tripper Johnson, and Frank Garcia to the list (remembering that effort does not necessarily equate to results). There are others, I’m sure, that we could add. Thoughts? Thanks for bringing it up, John.

Juan Garcia

if he played like Frank the O line would be a plus

Frank

Frank is a player….I am not so sure on Juan. I actually think Sedillo is better. Even though he came back which was a moracle he didn’t come back close to the same level.

Agreed

Johnnie Kirton, Dan Howell, Dan Milsten, Marquis Cooper, Evan Benjamin…maximum effort guys on otherwise crappy teams. I wish everyone wearing the purple and gold gave it up like these guys did on Saturdays…maybe we wouldn’t be in the mess so deeply if everyone had this level of pride.

Evan Benjamin

Evan actually reads this blog or has in the past. A few years ago he got on me for criticizing the LB play. If you are out there Evan I always thought you were a stud.

Props to Kirton

Kirton should have been put at MLB from the beginning. If you’ve seen JK up close he has wide shoulders and is as thick as a brick. At around 255 to 265 lbs and with his speed he would have been a proto-typical NFL MLB. – Too bad: Another player not put in the right spot to succeed.

Kirton

Bellotti told Kirton that he would play DT or DE not RB so Kirton went to UW because they were going to give him a shot at RB. UW was the only school that offered him as a RB. We all knew he would grow out of the position in a matter of months but I found it way to strange that they didn’t move him immediately to the defensive line after his RS year.

Yep

They tried to fill a need with a guy that didn’t really fit the position. Unfortuanatly they had it backwards. Gunheim should have been the TE and Kirton should have been at DE although I see his body type as more of a MLB than DE but he would have excelled at either position.

Don James

One of the very special things about Don James that is shared with Pete Carroll is they can look at a player for about twenty minutes in the first practice and usually decide where he should play the rest of his career.

Willingham can’t figure that out over a five year time frame.

For example Logan should never have been a WR he is a natural safety.

I agree 100% John

Let’s hope our next coach can get players into the best position for them and the team to succeed.
