UW Women's CC Team Wins National Championship
The UW Women's Cross Country Team won the NCAA National Championship today in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Seattle PI has this article on the event.
The runners had to fight cold, windy conditions and a second-ranked Oregon team that got off to a strong start. The Ducks led at the 2-kilometer mark of the 6K race, but then the Huskies rounded into form, placed five runners in the top 40 and won with a low score of 79 points to the Ducks' 131. Florida State was third with 163. "It's great for Seattle, great for the University of Washington," coach Greg Metcalf said. "It's great for our kids, great for our coaches. It's just fun."

Wow
I can understand football not being a “championship”, which is exactly why we need a playoff. But Men’s Crew, I just don’t get why they can’t have a “championship”, or do they have bowl games too?

Congratulations to the team
Metcalf has done a good job in this area. The x country team is also very young so likely will be contenders for a few more years.
I'm thrilled with the victory, but the victory was pretty much in the bag.
UW’s 6th girl finished ahead with Oregon’s 3th, and we had our top 6 beat Oregon’s 1st runner in the Pac 10 championships. Really, our 2nd 5 team could finish in the top 5, that’s how good we are.
The only question was whether or not we were going to break the all-time lowest score for the national championship (with 31 teams, it used to be only 13 teams), and no we didn’t. It was 62. There’s always next year though, as we only have 1 senior in our top 5.
Congrats to the Husky women, they are the most dominant cross country team in the past decade (if not more).
